Thank you to all Veterans. Especially those whose checks have been cashed. Rest easy, your debt is paid in full.

You are exactly right. I am glad that there has been this new attitude from our countries citizens toward our Veterans. I am sure I am not alone when I say we didn't/don't do it for the thanks, but for a greater purpose.

I get chills when I read every ones achievements and duty assignments. I got teary eyed this morning when my best friend called me and said Thank You. It is great to hear.

God Bless the USA. God Bless the men and women who have served, currently serving and gave the ultimate sacrifice for Old Glory. May we always have those brave men and women who will stand and defend what is right.

A big THANK YOU to all of those who have served this great country!!!!

This is a remarkable thread w/ great recognition of service, honor and commitment. I want to thank each and every veteran that has allowed me the privilege of living in the greatest place on this planet: THE USA.

I see alot of members that post on here regularly giving their tours/assignments and I stand in awe,  but what is really neat is to see  are those great Arkansans that are serving or have served our country that seldom, if, ever post here on Hogville. Truly, truly awesome!!

Have you ever listened to someone  or read what they put into thoughts and wondered...."who ties your shoelaces for you?"

I am a Hog fan. I was long before my name was etched, twice, on the sidewalks on the Hill. I will be long after Sam Pittman and Eric Mussleman are coaches, and Hunter Yuracheck is AD. I am a Hog fan when we win, when we lose and when we don't play. I love hearing the UA band play the National Anthem on game day, but I sing along to the Alma Mater. Amazing!
When I started this post in the morning I expected maybe 20-30 veterans post.  I had no idea that there were so many vets reading this board.

I am overwhelmed and honored to be part of it.

I am a middle school social studies teacher now and have spent all day trying to impart to 7th graders the dedication and sacrifice of Veterans and their families.  Hopefully they remember todays lesson more than any other.

God bless the USA

+1 to my fellow veterans (that took awhile, but it was worth it).

My wife plays in a local concert band that gives free concerts to mostly elderly people 4 times a year.  At their November concert, they always play a medley of the 5 songs for each branch of the military.  During the medley, they ask the veterans to stand while their particular song is being played, so everyone can recognize you.

At first, I was embarrassed to stand and be the "center" of attention.  After all, what did I do?  I was never part of any wars, I never held a gun in my hands.  All I really did was sit on a ship for 4 years.  Granted, we did steam into the Persian Gulf (I did 4 West Pac/PG cruises), and were the first on the scene in China when the spy plane went down in 2001.  That was pretty scary.  But I had never felt like my life was in danger during the entire time I was in, so I didn't want to stand up, because I didn't think I deserved the recognition.

I got to thinking about it, and realized that my life was in danger, even when I didn't realize it.  Every day I was on that ship, cruising the Persian Gulf, there were any number of things that could have happened.  What's more, I volunteered to put my life in danger.  I joined the Navy knowing that I might be called to put myself out there for my country.  I knew that there was a chance that I wouldn't make it back home alive.

I hear the words "you did your part" spoken all the time.  Those are true words.  I may not have been in any wars, like a lot of today's troops, but I did do my part.

I now stand proudly when the band plays "Anchors Aweigh" in their military medley.  I'm proud of my time in the service, and I'll never again be embarrassed to be called out for it.

Thanks to all the rest of you that did your part, and more, thank you to those who did their part, and could only come home in a casket.  My heart goes out to all the families that have lost loved ones because they were fighting for this wonderful country.

I was in that squadron (VQ-1) who's plane crashed in China.  It happened several years after I left, but I flew in that same plane.
