I'm about to start putting away some money in a Roth IRA, and just wanted to get some input on what y'all thought the best ways to go about it were. Should I go with a target fund, index fund, or do some research and find some good actively managed funds? How do y'all try to diversify it between funds?

Diversify across mutual funds. I wouldn't put all your eggs in one fund.

When researching, look at the 20+ year rate of return. It should be around 12% for a really good one. Anywhere from 8-12%is typical for a top performer in the long run (20+ years).

Hogville prediction formula:

1.  Insert bad news prediction. A loss, a recruit going elsewhere, a coach leaving, etc.
2.  Tag "hope I'm wrong," on the end.
3a.  Enjoy a correct prediction.
3b.  Act like you're relieved you're wrong and celebrate with everyone else.
