I think our players were too comfortable with being ranked in the top 25. Any other thoughts? We are currently unranked now which is were I think we should be and I think you guys would agree with that.

I think it had more to do with Madden not being comfortable with the ball in his hands in pressure situations than the team not being ready to be ranked. I'm not ready to put him in the Stefan Welsh category (where I cringe when they touch the ball) but that crap he pulled last night is unacceptable from a senior, or anyone above junior high hoops for that matter.  Wouldn't surprise me one bit for Mike to come out with Beard or Durham next game.

Madden should start at shooting guard with beard at the one. He would be a good 2 guard. Let bell come in with the second unit.

I guess Bell's turnover under the basket up 4 with 47 seconds left that lead to Clemson not needing to foul is irrelevant.

Really? It would shock the dog out of me. That would require MA to actually change something. He still starts Harris for crying out loud.

The ceiling on this team is, and was going to be how ready for primetime our young PGs were.

They're not.  We're not.   There is some good there, to be excited about, but if we're going to be lazy defensively, it won't matter much.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I think it is worse than lazy on defense. I think it is being pouty. They don't get a steal and a chance to run in 3 or 4 possessions, and they pout about it.  So then they start doing stupid stuff trying to get steals, trying to force the tempo, and it just snowballs into frustration fouls, easy baskets for the opponent, and open looks for them.

Teams that just play basketball, and are not so tied to one aspect, do not suffer the tremendous ups and downs that a team like the Hogs do.

MA is not a teacher of fundamentals. A team that isn't fundamentally sound will have more ups and downs than the Arkansas Twister. I wouldn't call their style of play "street ball", but there has always been a lack of discipline when it comes to executing on either side of the court. Discipline would have kept the lead in the last minute against Clemson.

The same was always said of Nolan's teams.   He didn't become a teacher of fundamentals overnight, or a better basketball coach.     The style is what it is;  when it doesn't  work, it'll always get the 'streetball' label.

Good follow on, Erie.  Nolan's team had enough talent to overwhelm other teams.  The style of ball was still relatively new as well.  This team doesn't have the element of surprise and definitely doesn't come close to the level of talent to pull it off. The ceiling will remain where it is at until we start pulling in top talent (not necessarily McD AAs, they can be under the radar guys that explode in college).

I seriously doubt our long stay in the top 25 is what did us in.

Some of y'all still don't know what kind of coach CMA is.  He values athletes who can run and shoot and lets the rest take care of itself.  We play an excellent brand of street ball which is always dangerous at home and occasionally dangerous in a tournament setting.  We are not and will not be a fundamental team.  That's not CMA's M.O.  I don't mean that in a negative way.  It will always be up and down.

Discipline and up tempo style are not mutually exclusive.  The rhetoric is tired.  The style works, when its executed.  It's a proven commodity.  Suggestions to the contrary are simply ridiculous.

I am all for it's execution.

Several teams run this style now and manage fundamentals as well.  It is a crazy concept that I really wish MA would take a look at.

Couldn't have said it better. He panicked multiple times last year only to be bailed out on a couple of occasions. It really is freshman and sometimes sophomore behavior. I don't expect it from upperclassmen and neither should CMA. Move Madden to the 2.
