My daughter sang her way through college. With a combination of scholarships and a stipend she was paid for singing in the university's choirs I paid nothing for her education. Those opportunities are similar to what most smaller schools do for minor sports. They'll have a handful getting a stipend. The swim guy will work as a lifeguard at the university's pool. The soccer girl will tutor and do light clerical work around the coaches offices.

And most schools don't have a dedicated coach for those sports. That coach does work with and teach "regular " students. For most schools the minor sports
will continue as they always have.

The G-5 school's will have to find another source of revenue if they want to continue with their minor sports programs. But for 90% or more of schools those sports are not programs they're already clubs with a couple of school sponsored ringers here and there.

The middle group of schools will have some hard decisions to make for sure.

I saw where the very recent NBA/G-league invites may have taken J.Watkins off the table, just a couple of days after entering into the portal. Man this stuff is crazy fluid!

As it goes, for guys swim scholarships are exceedingly rare. If he swims in college, he will be doing it for the love of it.

There are 143 Division I men's swimming programs; each can offer up to 9.9 scholarships. So basically 1400 scholarships. Those scholies can be split, just as in baseball or track, so there are more than 1400 male swimmers, but it's not a huge number. Ten of the 14 current SEC schools have men's swimming; of the noobs, Texass does, Mobilehoma doesn't.

There are 200 D-I women's swimming programs with a scholarship limit of 14; again those are split between athletes as well. There are 12 current SEC women's programs. Again Texas does, OU doesn't.

I'm confused. I was told by knowledgeable hogvillians that Kentucky was bad, and we should have swept

Quote from: Walter Sobchak on Yesterday at 02:46:41 pmBut that didn't happen to Halverson who faced a much larger jump in competition coming from SD St to the SEC vs the Big 10 to the SEC. Has to be something else going on.

Slugger vs contact hitter. Extra velo can help a power hitter if they connect. It only makes it harder for a contact hitter. Everyone is different though at adjusting, and I'm sure Nia hadn't seen the velo she saw here on a nightly basis in the Big 10. It's also a streak sport where confidence goes up and down, so she may have just hit a slump.

Quote from: codeHog on Today at 08:16:00 amI like the portal players we are picking up (even if they are no better than the guys that left.
We are getting guys that have college experience and none are being counted on for instant starting

That being said, is there any SEC team with more portal starters than Arkansas?

Ole Miss I would imagine. Maybe South Carolina
