That is funny right there....

WOW!!!   I love it.  I was happy that Garner is gone.

But the question is"  Is Bev Lewis eating crow????

She got rid of Blair (I know A&M courted him away from Arkansas but she basically helped him pack she so much wanted him gone) and stated that she wanted a Lady Coach.  Well she got one in Gardner and she couldn't even win with the league's best player one year.

Now she hires a male coach and coincidentally he was an assistant coach at Arkansas for who?  Gary Blair.  Does that not sound like Lewis is eating crow and admitting Hey I messed up!!

11/19/2023:  Keeping my original semi-prophetic, apocalyptic signature below.  We continue to regret passing on Norvell, who is in the running for the Playoffs.  We continue regret passing on Kiffin, who is eyeing a New Years 6 game.  Heck, we regret passing on Drinkwitz (he may be a dork, but he will have his team in a New Years 6 game after they truck us on Black Friday).

Meanwhile, Sam is drinking Pittman, wondering if he has the leverage to re-hire Enos, Sexton is doing the triple Lindy into his Olympic-size pool full of cash, and thousands of hog fans are planning to dress up as empty seats for next year's Halloween game.

11/25/2018:  My original "Chad Morris" signature is below.  I'm modifying my view as follows:  We will continue to regret passing on Norvell and Kiffin.   After 3 years, when Morris is 10-26, we are going to be saying "What were we thinking?  Even Bert was better than this!"

Ha, first thing I thought of when I heard his name.

"If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink."

"I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don't just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good ideas."

NS, you are the most dedicated hater of all.  I love you man!

Hopefully Tom Collen will right the ship on the women's side.

Damn that sounds good I think I will have a Tom Collens bartender.

Sounds like a good hire. Besides, Pokey Chapman wasn't available.

I'm sure they could have interviewed her lickety-split.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

If he is able to get Shakena Stricklin that would be great. He has a lot of work to do though cause we are pretty far down her list. Maybe he can get her out of that Vol orange.

Tom Collen is not just a good hire, he is a great hire.  He is the guy that recruited the group that took Purdue to the final four, he left the year before, and you Blair lovers ought to know that Collen recruited nearly all of the players that took Arkansas to the final four.  Lewis knew Tom Collen, respected him and watched him perform.  He is a proven winner and a proven recruiter, she did good getting him.

I also find it really odd that people comment on the Arkansas women's program without knowing a thing about the staff and the program.   Some have stated that there are only single females on the staff and that is far from the truth.  There are only two female head coaches -- one a co-head coach with her husband in gymnastics, and the other in golf, and she and her husband just had their first child.  I would bet that a person with the inclination of the former women's coach at LSU would find going tough at Arkansas

Remember, Bev Lewis also hired Blair, and she did not run him off,  he went of his own accord.  He was interviewing with every major job in Texas that came open (Baylor and A&M) and Lewis got tired of that and told him if he wanted to stay fine, but you seem to want out so go.  Blair got bent out of shape when he found that his family would not go with him so he then whined to the press and most people thought he was misstreated.  Not the case.  Blair was trying to blackmail the university and honestly they got tired of it.

I am sure Joe Foley is a nice fellow, but why in the world would anyone think the University of Arkansas should take another risk with an unproven coach.  Suzie Gardner had much better credentials than Foley and look what happened to her in the SEC.  Foley did well and I hope his success continues, but he is not ready for the major meat grinder of the SEC, his teams at UALR are barely in the top 100 rpi, and even as poorly as we think Gardner's teams were she was in the top 60 at the end of the year.

Collen will bring us back to where we were 5 years ago and beyond.  He will need a few years to get SEC level players at Arkansas, but he will be more than competitive.

Tom Collens needs to help finish the package deal.  Then after we get UL basketball staff, we need to take over there football staff if BD doesn't come.

If Stan and HOOOten is still here.  I think razorback nation will be making a ton of Tom Collins to get us through the pain of Mens fb and bb.   I might even try to sneak some Tom Collins mix in and watch Tom Collens coach.

I think Joe Foley has proven himself.
This is from the UALR Media Guide and doesn't include 06-07   21-11 record.  I don't think UALR had ever won a conference game prior to Joe Foley.

What do you mean recruit contact rules?  Ohio St. has a center committed for next years class, he was offered and accepted before he ever played a high school game.

Good, this means that the best women's college basketball coach in Arkansas will remain in Little Rock.  Joe Foley can get more from a group of players than anyone that I have ever seen.  Of course I am biased, having covered Coach Foley when he was at Arkansas Tech.  Care to make any bets on who gets to the NCAA first?  Oh, and Coach Foley's players at ATU had another good habit, it was called graduation.
The definition of insanity is repeating the same action over and over and expecting a different result: like an off tackle play on third down and long.

At Friday's press conference in Fayetteville.  Collen served under Gary Blair here at Arkansas before making a few stops (some rather bizarre events in between), and for the last three years guiding Louisville to the NCAA Tournament.
Well at least between the two basketball programs we might finally have a coach who knows what he's doing...........'cause it's clearly been proven over and over again that Stan sure doesn't.

Not excited at all. So what he won in the Mountain West Confernence with Colorado State. Louisville has only been in the big east a couple of years. If you read Susie Gardners resume she was a winner too. SEC is big time girls basketball and unless Tom Collen can do at Arkansas what Billy Gillespe has done at Texas AM and Thad Matta has done at Ohio State, than he is once again a waist of time and money. If he is any kinda real coach he will do what these guys have done. Remember it only took Kim Mulky four years at Baylor to win a National Championship. In four years I bet we are no closer to being a great team with this guy then we are now.

Well, it is nice to see that you have already made your mind up already. I bet the Duke fans said the same thing when they hired Coach K from Army. Give the dude a chance, he has had the job for about three hours.

Not at excited about Tom Collen at all. So what he won in lesser confernences. So did Susie Gardner. It only took Kim Mulky 4 years to win a National Championship at Baylor. Thad Matta and Billy Gillespe have made their progams great in 3 years. I gurantee you that this guy is just another easy hire for Bev Lewis so she does not have to go out and work to find a real coach.

Now that we're done for the day, I'll welcome all the fans over to the Lady'Back board here in Hogville -- even the low post number trolls that obviously have not spent a lot of time around women's basketball to know the impact of hiring . . . .

wait for it . . .

wait for it . . .

the person with the 11th highest winning percentage in Division I women's hoops.  Granted, at the start of the season and that will jockey around with the retirements and changes in everyone's winning percentage but folks -- all Tom Collen has done for his entire career as an assistant or as a head coach is recruit players and win.  To the tune of 70+ percent in both roles.

Let me interject one other thing -- go out on the other national boards and look back and see how many of the other major jobs had TC in the "probables".  Almost all the major positions.  We scored a huge win for the home team.

All together now -- WPS
"Trust the people" -- Winston Churchill

Maybe Suzie was a winner when she came here, but obviously things just didn't work for her.  You can't really make a comparison until the new coach has been here four or five years.
The best we can ask of the athletic department is to keep hiring winners.  Unless we start hiring proven losers, then we can't really complain.  The Stan Heath hire was the same thing.  It was a good hire at the time, because he was a hot commodity.  He was the Gillispie of five years ago.  My hat is still off to those who made that hire.
I realize that we all are now questioning whether or not Stan is the right man to lead the Hogs to the pinnacle of success.  I am not sure, i would definitely support either decision at this point.   Hire proven winners, if they win keep them.  If they lose, lose them.  The main thing is that we made a good hire based on the info we have, and there is really nothing to be critical of the Athletic department for on this one.  Keeping Nutt, on the other hand, is a different story.  Give credit when it is due, and lay blame when it is deserved.

Dwight_K_Shrute

Just saw the press conference on the News at 10:00.  Who was the dude sitting next to the new coach?
Little known fact, but prior to settling on Guantanamo, the Pentagon wanted to house terror suspects at War Memorial Stadium.  It was deemed to be cruel and unusual punishment and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

Kim Mulkey was my first choice, but I have to admit from his resume that Collen might be very successful. He seems to have been a good recruiter wherever he has been. For those who say "he has only gone to the first or second round of the NCAA's" my answer is, when have the Ladybacks even BEEN to the NCAA's?  Its been a while!!!   And then was sparked by Collen's recruits.  We will see pretty soon how well he can recruit to keep the current committments and then work on the gal from Morrilton...

BTW Collen, keep your eye on Megan Herbert in your own back yard at Shiloh!!!!
