Couple of thoughts. 1. Do players who are asked to be in peak physical shape look at obese coaches as hypocrites.

2. When you have a demanding job does carrying that extra weight make it more difficult to do your job?  No coaches aren't Olympic sprinters but they work long hours and are constantly on the move. Game days especially so when it's perpetual thought and motion. Your body and by extension your brain operates more effectively and efficiently when you are in better shape.

Bert doesn't have to have a 6 pack but you would think with all the resources at his disposal he would be in better shape

This is the most important point and should be the primary way this topic is discussed.  Bielema's weight is dangerous.  He is getting older.  Age plus weight = blood pressure, heart issues etc.

I think he has a hard time moving because of past injuries.  I believe he had knee and ankle surgeries during his playing days at Iowa.  However, the added weight does nothing but compound that problem.

Bielema needs to get healthier for himself and family not to please the idiots who photoshop pictures of him.

I think what he's trying to say is that with most overweight people comes a degree of no motivation and laziness. Which would flow over into his job requirements to be successful or unsuccessful. He his however going about it in a personal way towards the guy.

I didn't realize he was still playing. Does he need to lose weight, sure, does it have any effect on the team's performance, highly doubtful. As stated above, it's just petty ways for some to attack something they have no control over. The want him fired, he isn't going to be, so attack him personally, it makes them feel better in their ineptness over the situation. To each his own.

He's not still playing...but it is his job to motivate. Would you be more motivated by a coach working out WITH the team or one that drinks beer and TELLS the team how much they should work out.

I've had this opinion for years. Never liked the way Mangino or Fulmer looked either - it just seems a bit strange to want to athletes to 'buy in' and be in premium condition when coach looks like he is one foot in the grave.
