Recruiting is about to go through the roof at A-State. He's going to bring the Pitino escort program with him.

Just kidding, I'm an A-State grad and fan. Just couldn't pass up a jab at the Louisville problems.

Seminole Indian

Not sure if those "problems" at Louisville did not contribute to him not getting the job last year.

I do get the impression they fully expect he will be the best recruiter they have had....maybe ever.

He has told the players that just signed with them, who are considered very good players, that if they want their release after talking to him they will get it.

Not just a question of him being a good guy, but also his confidence in his ability to bring in some very good players right now.

Wrong! It was Mohajir that told the two recruits that comment.

What  I was told was their AD had given them permission to look at other schools before they made the hire( think only one was doing so), but their new coach said if they wanted to be released after talking/visiting/meeting whatever with him, that was fine.

That majority of that stuff happened before his Louisville tenure. The guy who was setting all that up was there 2010-2014. Balado was hired in 2013 so there was only 1 year overlap.

Funny how things worked out because if that cloud not been hanging over Louisville he would probably have been A-States coach last year.

Here is a video where he talks about taking the A-State Job:

I was told ASU's first choice, Levelle Moton, turned them down.

1. Best recruiter ever hired for ASU basketball?

Isn't just a little early for that type hype? The guy is an assistant. Let him earn a little something before assigning him Final Four status. That sounds just like the Cotton Bowl hype the football team had just about this time last year. Grant McCasland did a great job at ASU this year, and the new guy will have his work cut out for him to better that.

Based on everything I've been told or read, Moton had an offer on the table and decided not to make the move. Not getting the top target is actually  more the norm, than the exception.

Not at all, and who said anything about final 4 status.

I do agree with those that expect  he will  be one of, if not the the best recruiters A-State has every had in basketball, but for a lot of reasons other than just his talent as a recruiter and his considerable contacts. If he had five scholarships to give he would probably have the best class in A-State history on the court next year. If they all stay A-State will have at least six scholarships to give out after next year.

I'm sure A-State fans hope he turns out to be as good as McCasland & Company when it comes to coaching, and I expect his record will be similar next year, and I do expect they will be a strong contender for the SBC Championship every year.

A-State has traditionally been a decent basketball program, they just hung onto a couple of coaches for to long. Even those coaches had some success.

I don't look for coaches to hang around A-State for very long going forward.

Well, because they haven't had a good recruiter, so about any decent one will be the "best".

John Rose was a good recruiter back in the day just a terrible coach.

John Brady was not bad, just he could not keep his players out of trouble or keep his assistants around early on, and then just went into semi-retirement the last couple of years.

What people seem to forget though is A-State is a pretty decent basketball school, and just like the football program, it does not take a great coach to have some success.

I guess it depends on one's definition of "decent".

Nope! We are hoping he is better than McCasland was this year and thus avoid the late season choke job.

I did not follow them closely at all and did not realize how poorly they had done down the stretch. I just saw 20 wins and thought that was good. Guess not.

Read on their message board where his former boss at Louisville said he had sent 30 assistants on to head coaching jobs and he was in the top three, so he might be better than McCasland.

Most head coaches give nice support to their assistants getting head coaching jobs, did he say who the other two were?

They did not mention any names on A-State's message board, and I did not listen to their press conference.

I never know with you, and it is hard to hide the fact I don't care at all about basketball.  I mean zero, so it was painful to do the little fact finding I did.

Like my old football coach said if the ball is round, and you are not hitting it with a bat the sport does not matter. I hate basketball.

They lost 6 of the last 8 games in regular season and was ousted in the first round of the Sunbelt tourney by ULM, who had only gone 2-16 in conference play.I call that a primo choke job.

Someones a little touchy this morning. So someone gets to become a mod and can then delete post willy nilly. OK. I'll quit posting in this forum and then the three of ya'll that do can have fun...........I'll just go back to the forums where debates and jokes in the offseason are still allowed. Back to Jump ball and MMQ.
If I'm going to cheer players and coaches in victory, I damn sure ought to be man enough to stand with them in defeat.

Except someone saying you're a fan or not without personally knowing you might be actually simply joking.........Yes I do realize it's difficult to moderate or know what is and isn't joking or taking things too far sometimes. Heck we all call each other out on this board on other forums as "true fans" or not all the time.

That being said even though I was simply having fun or joking I bet you understand why some others might think you are a fan simply because of Moderating this forum and the sheer number of your posts about the wolves.

Why not.

They are a collage in the state of Arkansas and just hired a coach.

Seemed appropriate to me, and no rule here you have to like the sport or school your are posting about.

If I lived seven miles from UCA's campus, and read their local newspaper, I'm sure I would post more about UCA, but I don't, and in fact get almost no information on any Arkansas Schools but the Razorback and Redwolves.

Well you made some good points without saying I don't hate basketball (add Golf, and bowling to my hate list), or saying I'm a Redwolf fan.

I hate basketball, and golf, and bowling, but if something happens involving any of those sports at one of the state schools other than the UofA, I may  post something about it here. Yes it will most likely be about A-State but that is just a result of where I live.

I encourage all of you to post anything about any of the state colleges and universities here (other than the UofA), even if you are not a fan or particularly care about the sport.

Lots of people don't have access to the info you may take for granted.

My wife reads ever thing except the sports page, and likes it for the coupons.

I look at the headline ( mainly because it is my job to go get the paper and bring it into the house), obituaries ( that's and age thing), and glance at the sports page.... sometimes.

All my other news come from the internet or people I know, and I don't watch the local news unless something is brought to my attention.
