Loved Frank.  Even in his deteriorating health, seemed like he still managed to make as many basketball games as possible.  For about the last 8-10 seasons, He & his wife Gen sat a couple of rows in front of us at BWA in section 104, the SW corner of the arena.  I'm sure several on this board have seen him numerous times at BWA as well.  Frank didn't sit in a private box or on the sideline.  I'm sure could've just walked anywhere in the arena & got a seat, but I think he liked to blend in with the fans.  He was always ready to take a picture with anyone who walked by with a big Razorback smile on his face!  Even young kids who didn't really know who he was, were encouraged by their parents to go up to Frank and get an autograph or a picture with a living razorback legend.

RIP Coach Broyles. Thank you for everything you did.

ok i get you. but do you have to post it over and over and over and over? and for the 100th time. Mike is going to be coach here no matter if you like it or not.

I had my doubts about him as a coach and a person, but without a doubt he is the greatest razorback ever. Looking forward to renaming the Stadium and everything else after him. RIP Coach.

You miss the boat.  A four team playoff is a championship.  A championship produces... a champion. You seem to be looking for the "best" team.  The "best" doesn't exist. Best does not equal champion.  Best is a myth.

His impact on the game of college football extended well beyond Arkansas.
Probably one of the most respected AD's in the history of college sports.
And for us old timers the announcing team of Broyles and Keith Jackson is remembered as one of the best.

RIP Coach - you left a hell of a legacy at Arkansas.
Inside every "older" person is a younger person wondering what the hell happened?

RIP Coach.  Had dinner with you in the early 80's, and will always remember the gentleman you were.  Thank you for being so loyal to our state and University.  See you on the other side. <><

RIP, Coach.  Will always remember those Razorbacks Club dinners in the school cafeteria where I grew up in rural Arkansas.  You treated us rural folk just like we were as important as the big city folk.  True gentleman!

I had a feeling about this. Coach Ara Parseghian lives in my mother's neighborhood in Granger, Indiana. He sent a signed book and small statue to me last fall. I followed up with a letter to him. Several weeks ago, Coach Parseghian passed away. A fine man.

Of course, those of you all old enough know why I mentioned Coach Parseghian. He and coach Broyles were both excellent color guys on ABC back in the day.

I met coach Broyles several times. The last time was in 2007 the morning before the named the field for him against USC-e. A good friend of mine flew out to see the game with me. Earlier that day I was driving my friend around Mt. Sequoia showing him Fayetteville. Then walked by up a hill was coach Broyles on his morning walk. We both congratulated him for his pending award.

Wow, another bigger than like person in my life passes away. God bless you coach and the Broyles family.

I vividly remember on Sunday afternoons, we'd be playing sandlot football and I would quit and run home _ despite my friends' pleading to keep the game going _ so I could watch the Frank Broyles show on TV. Also read every Broyles quote Orville Henry saw fit to print. Later, I admired how he built and promoted ALL intercollegiate sports _ not just football _ as athletic director. We have lost a legend. May he rest in eternal peace.

I bet they'll do something to honor him at one of the DWR games this year. RIP Frank and prayers for your family.

Coach stood for everything good and decent. Others can only hope they could do 1/10th of what he did for the University. There is not enough the University could do to properly honor him.

RIP Frank.  Very well respected.  I'll be praying for his family and the entire Razorback Nation.

many are not aware of his own athletic abilities... he was All-SEC in football, basketball, and baseball at Georgia Tech and was drafted by an NBA team.....

Condolences for the Coach and family.

Very sad day for Razorback nation. That made made the Uof A athletic program the great success it is and has been. We wouldn't be playing in the SEC or be upgrading our facilities like we are if not for Frank Broyles. Prayers going up for his family.

Coach Broyles has always been there through thick and thin....perhaps the best Hog fan ever. He is the architect of the sports program we all enjoy.

I am an old Guy but the second and third words I ever associated with Arkansas Football was Frank and Broyles.  The first word being Razorbacks.  I doubt anyone ever fully realized the difficulty of making a winner out of our team but Frank did it with what he had to work with.  Later he made a sports program into a PROUD SPORTS PROGRAM worthy of high national ranking in facilities and stature with several Conference and National Champion Teams.  Frank was, is and always will be the MAN.

Condolences to Broyles' family as well as the entire Arkansas family from a lifelong Bama fan. Another giant of the game is gone but not forgotten. Great coach and a true southern gentleman. His commentary along with Keith Jackson during the late 70's through mid 80's is still my favorite all-time combo of announcers. He will be missed. RIP

:(    Thanks for the memories coach!

Enjoyed watching Joe Ferguson, Bill McClard and others (thru the what appears to be called the gap now) between classes.

RIP Coach Broyles.  Thanks for all you've done for the program, the university, and our state.
Hey Ref, does your wife know you're screwing us?

Condolences to his family and all of the Hog family everywhere. Thank you coach for everything you did for our beloved State, University, Athletic Department, all the people you helped and all the charities you were involved with.
If I'm going to cheer players and coaches in victory, I damn sure ought to be man enough to stand with them in defeat.

Lard

Here's the thing about Coach Broyles.....not everyone always agreed with his decisions but I feel like everyone respected him regardless.  In 55 years I can't think of any "dirt" on him.  I got to meet him a few times in public and private and he was the same to me in both settings - engaging, kind and gracious and I was just a 20 something y/o.  He had a lot of power and political weight at his zenith but he used it for the betterment of our University, and not for his his own self-promotion.  Society could use more Frank Broyles personalities.

All day I have had this sad sickening feeling since hearing about Coach Broyles, the same feeling I had the day I read about Brandon Burlsworth's accident.  God Bless you Coach Broyles, and thank you.

Frank Broyles was an absolutely fascinating man. I could have spent years talking to him. Wish I had.

I have a deep sorrow and sense of loss.  Coach Broyles has been there nearly my entire life.  Thanks, Coach.
My sources are unreliable, but their information is fascinating.

Hog Heaven called him home. May God bless you Coach. Thanks for everything.

Sad, sad day here in Fayetteville.  Knew it was coming when he had his daughter present last year's Broyles Award as he could not attend.

We have lost a Razorback giant. Such a sad day for Hog fans, and for the program. Thank you, Mr. Broyles, for being such a great leader and ambassador for the U of A.
It really is this simple. Unchecked government power leads to corruption, and lack of accountability for it is drastically eroding confidence in our institutions.    aristotle

My Mother passed in the mid 80's and my Pop became a rather lonely fellow.  He took to hanging around the Broyles complex for something to do.  I am sure he made a nuisance out of himself.

Hang onto that thought for a moment.  By the way, my Dad was a retired fighter pilot that served in WW2, Korea and Viet-Nam.  A great, patriotic American.

I attended a Henry Frnka clinic in San Antonio (I believe) with Frank Broyles as the featured speaker.  The place was so packed with Texass HS Football Coaches (of which I was one) they had an overflow that watched via CCTV in another room.  After a rousing presentation about developing Assistant Coaches, and a truly outstanding presentation it was, he was met with thunderous applause.  I had a copy of his autobiography "Hog Wild" and wandered up front to see if he'd autograph it.  I was pissing off all my fellow coaches from the Cisco Tx, Lobos, I promise.

He was surprised and happy to see someone from Arkansas and asked who he should make it out to.  I gave my name, and he raised an eyebrow.
"You any relation to (insert Dad's first name)?"

Corny story, but I have always appreciated him remembering Pop, as minor a character as you can imagine in his life.  I personally saw him remember and greet former players with unbridled joy, even after not having laid eyes on them in decades.  A terrific memory.  He stopped to give my wife and I directions outside the Admin building one afternoon when he heard us discussing where a building was.

God Speed, Coach.  You gave me something to be proud of in the 60's when I was just a kid from Arkansas living on Air Force Bases.

Just the tip of the iceberg

There are some nice old pics in that twitter post.

A great one is gone, for the entire sports world, but mainly for us in Arkansas. Coach Broyles was bigger than life.

RIP Coach.

I remember how much you stressed the fourth quarter in your coaching career.  Everything you did was in preparation for the fourth quarter.  You lived and breathed the fourth quarter.

RIP Coach.

The picture is just after he won our only National Championship against Nebraska.
