Patrick Beverly is headed overseas.

The former Arkansas guard, who was slated to be the lone returning starter for John Pelphrey this year, told FOXSports.com that he's signed with BDA Sports and will play professionally for a year before entering his name in next year's NBA Draft.

Beverly was terrific last month at the LeBron James Skills Academy in a setting with many of the other top college players. Sources told FOXSports.com that he was suspended for this season due to academics.

However, Beverly said that wasn't the case.

``It had nothing to do with academics," Beverly said. "I violated NCAA rules and what happened went over the coaches' heads. A lot of people thought it was because of grades, but I go to class every day."

``I'm going overseas for a year and hopefully I'll be able to come back and get picked in the draft," Beverly said. ``This was hard because I was working out with the team every day and getting ready for the season."

Now expect Arkansas to take a hit this season despite the fact that Pelphrey and his staff are bringing in plenty of talent. They'll be extremely inexperienced having lost six of their top seven scorers from a year ago.

Maybe his baby mama was right.  That stinks.  If he did violate NCAA rules though, that wouldn't fall under student privacy would it?

What rules did he violate ? Will we get sanctions ?

Depends.  He will definitely be a hit against our APR, which can lead to scholarship losses down the road.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Probably, but he is the one that said it.

If he's admitting to violating NCAA rules I'd certainly think sanctions could be on the table.  I find it interesting that he just says he went to class every day as a defense of academics, I could have somebody doing my work for me and still go to class every day.  I wish momma would've let him go to S. Florida now.

Beverly said. "I violated NCAA rules ..."

This is what I got out of the statement.  No 1 person is better than the team.  Wish he was still here, but its his own fault

I like how Goodman consistently spells BEVERLEY's name wrong the entire article. I know this because I got razzed for doing the same thing last week on a graphic.

i suspected it wasn't a grade deal.

i figured he cheated on a test and got caught, or something like that. I really hope one individuals actions don't affect a whole team of kids doing it right.

Good luck to PB though.

figured this was going to happen ...specially if he has family to support now so dont blame him..best wishes

hope he makes it good overseas and can be drafted... i appreciate that he owned up to violations and stated they werent on the coach... i dont know how much it'll help if NCAA looks into it... but i at least appreciate that it was put out there

Well with this being brought out in the open i need to own up to things i said about PEL.

I was critical of PEL when the P Bev thing first came out. I just couldnt understand how  he couldnt make sure that our best player was doing ok in the class room.

I want to man up and say i was wrong and should have never jumped to conclusions. Ill know next time to keep my mouth shut until the truth comes out.

With that being said, i sure hope this doesnt result in sanctions. I believe it would kill any hope that we have of returning into an elite program. I guess it would all depend on what rules were broken.

I was at the football scrimmage last Sunday. Met a man who's son goes to UofA. His son is saying that someone wrote a paper for Beverly. I don't have any way of proving this, but it makes sense. ie, he didn't leave because of academic issues, he left because he broke ncaa rules. If someone wrote a paper for him, then I would say he would be ok academically (grades), but this would definetly be breaking a rule.

If thats the case, then I don't think the program will recieve any sanctions....

He still counts against our APR, though-- and with Fatuatimi still counting against our score, it could mean scholarships down the road.

I wondered about that too, given the recent issues (track championships stripped, coaches going to jail).  Will this lead to more investigations?
