I saw some good defensive series yesterday, including some shot clock violations, hurried shots, and cutting off some passing lanes. There were a few times I thought we were leaving too much open, but seems that we shifted much better and quicker into coverage. I also notice that our bigs got out of place a couple of times when they broke off the double-team at the top and didn't rotate back into the lane, but we still seemed to recover.  Granted we were playing a team that is re-building, but Anthony Grant is a good coach (IMHO). A win is a win! Congratulations Hogs!  :)

This is a decent defensive team when we play man to man, however when we go zone we get in trouble real quick.  Now that we have a little more depth we should not play near as much zone

I'd encourage you to watch the second half yesterday;  Alabama's offensive efficiency tanked when we went to zone.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I actually thought switching to the zone in the second half yesterday was a good move by Pel. I said before
the game that Alabama is not very good from three point range and they weren't.

I watched the game and yes the zone was effective against bama because they couldn't make open jump shots.  I would encourage you to watch any of the games this year in which we played mostly zone and got drilled with jump shots.

Now that's true, there are some games left on the schedule were the Hogs will not be able to play much
zone. There will also be games where they can play it a little more.

Yet yesterday, it was zone that won the game.  We certainly did not 'get in trouble real quick';  we should continue to play zone, but only as appropriate.

Bama 1st half FG% - 50%
Bama 2nd half FG% - 39%

Bama 1st half 3-pt. FG% - 44% (4/9)
Bama 2nd half 3-pt. FG% - 11% (1/9)

Good call ErieHog. +1

I used to argue with HA about how Pel ran the basketball team.  I've since learned to like and respect him.  In fact, I'd go as far to say that HA is well connected or extremely perceptive. - Porkatarian, 11/7/12
