"I'm not mad at anybody at #Tennessee. Everybody that fired me got fired. I'm good." –Phil Fulmer http://ow.ly/TLLUq

QuotePhillip Fulmer probably was bitter about how Tennessee forced him out in 2008 though he tells a reporter multiple times how happy he is now. Fulmer guided the Volunteers to a national championship in 1998 and two SEC Championships but was told to resign in the midst of a 5-7 2008 season. Tennessee replaced its Hall of Fame alumnus with Lane Kiffin, who lasted a single season before leaving for USC.

Fulmer didn't feel welcome hanging around his alma mater during the Kiffin and Derek Dooley years. He famously said Kiffin's "arrogant attitude turned people off" and questioned how he even got the job during a stint as a CBS analyst. But he's developed a good relationship with current head coach Butch Jones -- they exchange text messages --

"I'm not mad at anybody at Tennessee," Fulmer says. "Everybody that fired me got fired. I'm good."

Once considered a hated villain in Alabama, Fulmer now vacations in Gulf Shores...

Not advocating anything, but 3 of the 4x Auburn finished in last place in the SEC West, Auburn changed coaches. http://ow.ly/TTOkK

QuoteThe SEC split into East and West divisions when it expanded to 12 teams by adding Arkansas and South Carolina for the 1992 season. In the 23 full seasons since, Auburn has finished in last place in the SEC West four times.

Three of those seasons concluded with a coaching change.

In 1998, Terry Bowden resigned ahead of the posse midway through a season that ended with the Tigers 3-8 overall and 1-7 in the SEC. Auburn's only SEC win that season came against Ole Miss and Tommy Tuberville. who left Oxford without a pine box to move to the Plains.

In 2008, Auburn, Arkansas and Mississippi State all occupied a crowded SEC West basement at 2-6. The Tigers went 5-7 overall, and after a 36-0 defeat by Alabama to end his "One for the other thumb" run in the Iron Bowl, Tuberville "resigned."

In 2012, two years after running the table and winning the national title, Gene Chizik was run off after running the table in reverse to finish 3-9 and 0-8.

It was the second time in Chizik's four years as head coach his Tigers finished last in the division. His first Auburn team shared the 2009 SEC West cellar with Arkansas and Mississippi State at 3-5, but there was some encouragement in an overall 8-5 mark...

Amidst Miami rumors, Mark Richt says Georgia's 'where I want to finish my coaching career' #collegefootball http://wp.me/p14QTT-1vH8

QuoteThe current Georgia head coach has ties to The U, of course, as he was a quarterback for the Hurricanes in the late seventies and on into the early eighties. Then there's the speculation that, after 15 years in Athens, it might be time for a fresh start for both parties. Tuesday, Richt was asked about the rumors connecting him to the opening.

"I don't think much of it, really," Richt said. "I love my alma mater. The U, no doubt about it. But there's been nobody calling or writing or texting or anything like that. I'm sure they'll find a great coach."

Historically good: MSU in midst of best stretch since 1940s http://on.thec-l.com/1NCPWai

Quote31-13 win at Missouri capture the program's 20th win in the last 25 games. It matches No. 3 Alabama – No. 20 MSU's next opponent on Saturday – for the best record in the Southeastern Conference during that time.

The stretch also equals Mississippi State's most successful since a 34-5-1 record from 1939-1942. MSU won an Orange Bowl and the SEC during that time.

Mississippi State is coming off an Orange Bowl appearance last year. At 7-2 and 3-2 within the conference, the Bulldogs still hold an outside shot at capturing a West division crown...

The latest version of our Gary Pinkel resignation story is up here- http://bit.ly/1iZP8zu .

QuotePinkel, 63, has a career record of 117-71 in 15 seasons at Missouri, and his 190 career wins are 19th-most all-time in Football Bowl Subdivision history. He is tied with Kansas State's Bill Snyder for the second-most FBS wins among active coaches, behind Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer (277). Beamer announced Nov. 1 that he will be retiring at the end of season.

Pinkel guided Missouri to Southeastern Conference Eastern Division championships in 2013 and '14, when the Tigers compiled a 23-5 overall record. This season has been a struggle, though, as Missouri has posted a 4-5 record and four straight losses.

The past week, in particular, has been extremely trying...

Les Miles (No. 10)

Gary Pinkel won almost 66% of his total games and 69% of his conference games in 10 seasons at Toledo.  After going 10-1 in 2000 he was hired at Mizzou to replace Larry Smith who had finished 3-8 with a 2-6 Big 12 record.

Pinkel led Mizzou's 2007 team to his first winning conference record. 7-1 was good enough to tie for first in the Big 12 North.  In his first SEC season, Mizzou was 2-6.  They came back to win the SEC-E in '13 and '14 losing to the SEC-W champ in Atlanta each season.  Mizzou was 1-5 in the SEC with losses to Vandy and Kentucky when Pinkel announced his retirement at the end of the 2015 season citing health concerns. Earlier in the week his team had announced they would no longer practice nor play in support of a campus boycott.  Pinkel publicly stood behind his team. After the resignations of Tim Wolfe and R. Bowen Loftin, the team returned to practice and defeated BYU in Kansas City.

A look back at Mark Richt's time at Georgia: http://www.macon.com/sports/college/sec/university-of-georgia/bulldogs-beat/article47071455.html ...

QuoteATHENS -- Fifteen years ago, Georgia was in need of a spark. Jim Donnan had worn out his welcome with three consecutive losses to Georgia Tech stinging the most. The Bulldogs needed new blood and looked south to find their next head coach.

At Florida State, a young and successful quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator named Mark Richt had just wrapped up his 11th season with the Seminoles. He had coached Heisman Trophy winners Charlie Ward and Chris Weinke and had been a part of two national championship.

It was time to branch out and become a head coach.

Georgia hired Richt on Christmas Day in 2000, which began a successful 15-year career at the helm.

2001: After 20 years without an SEC title, Georgia hired Richt to be its 25th head coach in program history. Richt's first season contained plenty of ups and downs and ended with an 8-4 record. The Bulldogs lost 20-16 to Boston College in the Music City Bowl.

2002: Richt's Bulldogs went 11-1 in the regular season and defeated Arkansas to win the SEC championship. Georgia's lone loss was to Florida, which kept the Bulldogs out of contention for a BCS national championship appearance. The Bulldogs defeated Florida State in the Sugar Bowl. Richt was named the SEC Coach of the Year.

2005: Richt became only the seventh coach in SEC history to win two SEC titles in his first five years at the helm of a program. Georgia defeated LSU to win the SEC title and made an appearance in the Sugar Bowl, losing to West Virginia. Richt was named the SEC Coach of the Year for the second time.

2007: After a down 2006 season, Richt led the Bulldogs to a 10-2 regular season. But the Bulldogs lost the SEC East tiebreaker to Tennessee, which went to the conference title game.

2008: Georgia was the preseason No. 1 team in both the AP and coaches polls to start the year. But this is the season a lot of people point to as the beginning of the end for Richt. The Bulldogs did not live up to expectations and lost three games, despite having 2009 No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Matthew Stafford at quarterback and No. 12 pick Knowshon Moreno at running back. Their season ended with a win over Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl.

2009-11: These three years marked the beginning of Richt's seat getting warm.

2012: This was arguably Richt's best team. Despite a 35-7 loss to South Carolina, Georgia won the remainder of its games and found itself in the SEC championship game against Alabama.

2015: Georgia began the year as a preseason top-10 team and was expected to run away with the SEC East. But a horrible stretch in October -- including losses to Alabama, Tennessee and Florida -- proved too much for Richt to overcome. He won his final four games, including his 13th over Georgia Tech but was fired a day after the regular season ended. His career at Georgia ends with a record of 145-51.

"I'm retiring from college coaching," Brown said in a Tennessee Tech release. "I've had a blast for 43 years. This is just the right time to do this.

Brown was also a head coach at Austin Peay, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt and Rice. His career record as a head coach was 136-211-1 and he became the first coach in NCAA history to lose 200 games.

Updated story about Mark Richt being named Miami's new coach. A few more details http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/14275799/miami-hurricanes-name-mark-richt-new-head-coach ...

QuoteFormer Georgia coach Mark Richt on Wednesday agreed to become Miami's new coach, and the deal is expected to be announced by the end of the week, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Richt, a former Miami quarterback, agreed to return to his alma mater only three days after he was fired at Georgia, where he guided the Bulldogs to a 145-51 record and two SEC championships in 15 seasons. Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity fired Richt on Sunday after Georgia went 9-3 this season.

The Bulldogs have tabbed Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart, a former Georgia safety, as Richt's replacement. Smart's hiring will be announced after the No. 2 Crimson Tide play No. 18 Florida in Saturday's SEC championship game.

It is unclear if Richt will coach Georgia in its upcoming bowl game. At a Monday news conference announcing his firing, Richt said he was "really looking forward to coaching these boys one more time." Miami interim coach Larry Scott is expected to coach the Hurricanes in a bowl game...

Would you hire Lane Kiffin to be your head coach? http://tinyurl.com/qy8nj9f

QuoteLane Kiffin, 40 and Alabama's polarizing offensive coordinator, has had head-coaching stints with the Oakland Raiders (2007-08), Tennessee (2009) and USC (2010-13), none of which ended particularly well. He has a 35-21 record at the college level and went 5-15 with the Raiders.

He has been undeniably successful with Alabama, which set a team record for passing yards average (277.9 YPG) in his first season. This fall, Alabama's offense has shown balance and steady production, propelled by running back Derrick Henry, the Heisman Trophy favorite entering the final week of voting.

The belief in coaching and agent circles is this will be Kiffin's final season on Alabama's staff. With a spike in coaching openings, could Kiffin receive a fourth chance to lead a program?

How much money UGA owes Richt, Pruitt and Schottenheimer http://trib.al/fehaI8e

QuoteRicht will receive $4.1 million from UGA as a buyout through the terms of the contract he agreed to earlier this year, though he had yet to sign it...

Pruitt and Schottenheimer are each still under contract for two more seasons after this one. The buyout on each of their deals is the remaining salary, so in Pruitt's case (his salary is $1.3 million) it would be approximately $2.6 million, and for Schottenheimer it would be approximately $1.9 million.

Neither is expected to be retained by incoming head coach Kirby Smart.

If you'd like to read a story about Barry Odom and friends jumping through fire to save a man, why not this one?- http://bit.ly/1DuTHbe

Quote

It was a hot, windy day, typical for summers in Oklahoma.

Odom, who was around 12 years old, was fishing with two friends when they noticed a man on an adjoining piece of land had gotten into some trouble while trying to burn and clear away brush with a bulldozer.

The fire had gotten out of control, and, after Odom and his friends ran over to help the man put it out, the man passed out from the heat and smoke.

The three boys pulled him to safety. They ended up getting a thank-you hamburger out of the deal.

Check out @JTalty's great look at how Jim McElwain's son, a UA student, changed his life: http://ow.ly/Vsuib

QuoteJerret McElwain will be in an exciting yet unenviable position as he walks into the Georgia Dome this Saturday.

The sophomore at Alabama works as a recruiting specialist in Nick Saban's program, and will have a great seat as the Crimson Tide goes for an SEC Championship. The only problem is Jerret's dad happens to be the head coach at Florida...

**
Jerret was a little boy when he wanted to warm up by the fire one day before heading off to preschool. The young boy got too close and his nightshirt caught on fire, forever changing both his and his father's lives.

Fortunately, a neighbor was an off-duty firefighter and quickly came over and helped. Even with the help, Jerret spent eight months recovering from the accident. It took him years to gather up the courage to ask his parents what happened and look at what remained of the nightshirt.

"I was on my death bed," Jerret says. "I almost died. It was a miracle I'm still here, and I thank the Lord for that."

At the time, Jim was the receivers coach at Louisville... That day changed Jim McElwain.

Richt says former players thanking him for being positive influence in his life helped change his mind on coaching next season.

Then Richt cracks on McGarity's "mutual agreement" and said when Miami reached back out, he said he'd be interested.

Richt says he won't try to steal Georgia's recruiting board ... But if they call, that's a different story.

UGA considered coaching change before Florida game http://trib.al/EMNMKJg

QuoteATHENS — Up until now, the narrative has been that Georgia pretty much decided it might be in the market for a new football coach back on Oct. 31 after the Bulldogs loss embarrassingly to Florida, 27-3. Turns out it was a couple of weeks before that.

Change was clearly on the mind of Athletic Director Greg McGarity back in mid-October when he began looking into search firms. McGarity revealed Monday that it was then that he made up his mind he was going to utilize Bill Carr of CarrSports Consulting — if needed.

McGarity was a panelist at the College Athletics Leadership Symposium at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Atlanta on Oct. 19 when approached by Carr and "three or four" other search firms after the meeting.

"Bill was one presenting that day," McGarity said after introducing Kirby Smart as Georgia's new head coach Monday at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. "They all anticipate (coaching changes). That's the job of these firms. When you finally make a decision to contact one — and I'm sure they've done some homework themselves — those guys want work, too. ... They're doing their due diligence, too."

It's not like McGarity didn't know Carr. The two go way back.

Carr is a former athletic director at Florida — he was in charge during the Charley Pell years — and his firm is based in Gainesville. McGarity worked there with the Gators as Jeremy Foley's right-hand man for 18 years. They utilized Carr's services several times during that span.

It's a six-year deal but Kirby's basically getting three years for sure based on buyout. Year 1: $13.5 mil, Year 2: $10.8 mil ...

Year 3 buyout: $7.05 mil, year 4: $4.7 mil, year 5: $2.35 mil.
