Tigers added yet another 4-star player Saturday with the commitment of forward Chuma Okeke, according to multiple reports. The commitment pushes Auburn to No. 1 in the national recruiting rankings

Quote6-foot-7, 225-pound forward out of Fairborn (Ga.) Westlake High School is ranked the No. 57 player in the country.

Auburn's 2017 class now includes 5-star power forward Austin Wiley, 4-star point guard Davion Mitchell and Okeke. Each player is ranked among the top 60 players in the country.

QuoteClass o' '17 stars Wendell Carter and Gary Trent Jr. have their way, Kevin Knox II will join them in a three-man package deal. That would be bad for Kentucky, because Carter and Trent Jr. look like Duke leans.

"That is so far — that's like Siberia far" from being true, Knox's father (also named Kevin) told SEC Country. "We will sit down as a Knox family and decide where we want to go. He's a top-10 talent and certain schools recruit top-10 people and they end up going together, but I know for us, we do not associate ourselves with anybody."

Carter, Trent Jr. and Knox are friends...

Talented big man Isiah Jasey picked the Aggies after making a recent visit to College Station.

QuoteAt 6-foot-9 and 225 pounds with an ability to really run the floor, Jasey has shown some definite potential throughout his high school career. While he has had some problems with inconsistent production, Jasey shows big time flashes, and could develop into a very good player in the SEC under A&M boss Billy Kennedy.

This is the second commitment for the Aggies in the 2017 class. Jasey joins fellow Texas native T.J. Starks in a very solid two man group so far.

QuoteNext up for Reese is an unofficial visit to Alabama this coming Sunday. He'll then take an official to Alabama on October 1st.

" haven't set dates with UAB yet, but I will be taking an official there," Reese said.

Reese said he would likely visit Georgia, but hasn't decided about a visit to Cincinnati yet.

Reese is regarded as the No. 46 overall prospect and No. 7 power forward in the 2017 recruiting class.

QuoteFour-star forward David Nickelberry cut his list of schools down to four on Tuesday afternoon with Vanderbilt among the select group...

Commodores inclusion in Nickelberry's list may have surprised some as Vanderbilt hasn't been a consistent name with the 6-7, 210-pound prospect since last fall when Vanderbilt began to make the Florida prospect a priority on the recruiting trail under former head coach Kevin Stallings.

New Commodores coach Bryce Drew and his staff have re-established a connection with Nickelberry recently, and made enough of an impression to join fellow finalists Georgia, Memphis and Southern Cal.

QuoteThe occupants of the top two spots in Scout.com's Class of 2017 basketball recruiting rankings remained the same with Wednesday's update.

DeAndre Ayton and Mohamed Bamba — both 7-footers on Kentucky's recruiting radar — are No. 1 and 2, respectively, in Scout's Top 100, and neither appears close to a college decision.

Ayton — a native of the Bahamas now playing his high school ball in Arizona —  has been the No. 1 prospect in the 2017 class for as long as Scout has ranked players from that group.

"I think DeAndre needs to be commended," Daniels told SEC Country. "Because when you are at the top of a list like this, you're going to be nitpicked and you're going to be critiqued a little harsher than others. And he didn't have a great showing at Basketball Without Borders back in February, but since then I think he's looked like a different player. And I think he's bought in to being more of a post player. Now, that's not to say that he can't step out and shoot, because he's shown that. But, I thought the energy and effort and consistency he showed in the summer was impressive."

Ayton averaged 20.1 points and 11.9 rebounds per game during the Nike travel season. He said in April that Kansas was the only school recruiting him at that time — rumors that Ayton could go pro out of high school and/or be ruled academically ineligible for college basketball prompted other schools to be cautious — but he's since listed UK and Arizona as two other programs that showed more interest as the summer progressed. Daniels doesn't think there's any clear leader.

"I don't think there's too much to go on at this point," he said.

Sources close to Ayton have said he's enamored by UK's record with both one-and-done players and 5-star big men, and the Cats very well could be the favorite if they show more interest in his recruitment.

Bamba — a prospect from Harlem, N.Y., who plays for Westtown School (West Chester, Pa.) — stays in the No. 2 spot. He missed some of the summer period with an ankle injury but returned to lead the PSA Cardinals to a runner-up finish at the Nike Peach Jam last month. Bamba has a 7-9 wingspan and 9-6 standing reach.

"When you have the type of measureables that he does, with a growing and improving motor and impressive defensive ability and tools on offense, you're a heck of a prospect," Daniels said. "Mohamed Bamba — if he continues to put in the time and effort — he's only scratching the surface on who he can become."

Bamba has scholarship offers from UK, Duke, Indiana, North Carolina and several others — Harvard is even considered by some to be a legitimate player —

Mike White's second recruiting class is shaping up to be stronger than his first, provided the commits keep their word and sign in November

QuoteGators are in the running for a handful of other Top 100 prospects, including shooting guard Collin Sexton (No. 10, ESPN Top 100), swingman Chaundee Brown (No. 30, ESPN Top 100) and power forward Xavier Tillman (No. 75, ESPN Top 100). Tillman is visting UF's campus on Sept. 11.

Point guard Shai Alexnander (6-5, 175 pounds) is ranked 44th in the nation in ESPN's Top 100, while swingman DeAundrae Ballard (6-6, 195 pounds) is ranked 65th.

Still think there's a good chance Ayton never plays in college...Arizona is the perfect school to pick for that

Deandre Ayton is currently the #1 rated recruit in the 2017 class...

&M hoops lands commitment from in-state 4-star small forward Savion Flagg

QuoteFlagg, who held offers from 17 programs, chose the Aggies over the likes of Baylor, Florida and LSU, among others.

QuoteForward Jamarko Pickett of Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia committed Thursday afternoon to Ole Miss, as first reported by Scout and later confirmed by sources. Pickett is rated as a three-star prospect by Scout, but is unranked by 247Sports.

Unlike earlier this month when Devontae Shuler, a senior from Oak Hill Academy in South Carolina, became the first four-star guard to commit to Ole Miss since 2010, Pickett's commitment came without a video announcement.

There was no build up on social media toward it, either, like when three-star shooting guard Parker Stewart committed to the program in late September out of Union City High in Tennessee.

Perhaps there should've been.

"He has a huge upside," Massanutten coach Chad Myers said. "I think he has the potential to play after college if things go the right way. He has to get stronger, add weight and do all that stuff, but his skill level, his size and his length are things you don't see in many guys."

Pickett is 6-foot-7 and 190 pounds. He holds offers from Cincinnati, Florida International and Memphis. Georgetown, Pitt, Rhode Island, Creighton, South Carolina, Florida and West Virginia all showed interest.

So why the lack of buzz?

QuoteClass of 2017 point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has cut his list to eight schools after decommitting from Florida.

He is now considering Kentucky, Kansas, Syracuse, Florida, N.C. State, UNLV, Oklahoma and Texas, Dwayne Washington, Alexander's coach with UPlay Canada told ZAGSBLOG.

Kentucky is expected to watch Alexander on Monday, while Kansas is expected in Tuesday.

"They measured his wingspan at Florida at 6-10 ½ with a 32-inch vertical leap. He's a very unselfish kid and a good leader."
