Medical issue (heart) puts career of former Auburn DL Nick Fairley in jeopardy

All-American defensive tackle has been absent from New Orleans Saints offseason workouts, and the reason is worrisome. According to a report from FOX Sports' Jennifer Hale, Fairley has missed time with the Saints due to medical issues after tests indicated Fairley has "trouble" with his heart.

Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the heart issue stems from something that cropped up during Fairley's pre-draft evaluation and has apparently re-emerged as a concern.

According to NFL.com's Mike Garafolo, Fairley visited with a cardiologist last month and has "been out of communication" with teammates, which his sources say is unusual for guys on the team who are usually able to reach Fairley.

Fairley signed a 4-year, $28 million extension with the New Orleans Saints in March...

Fairley was the SEC defensive player of the year in 2010.
