Okay guys so if you had to PICK ONLY ONE HOG as your favourite Arkansas basketball player of ALL-TIME, who would it be?

Mine would be Todd Day.  Silky smooth shooter and scorer who also was AWESOME playing the 40 minutes of hell defense.  In my opinion, he was the ultimate Nolan player.

So, who is your favourite Hog of all-time?   :razorback:

MckDaddy, just out of curiosity, why is Day your favourite  Hog of all-time?

McKdaddy

I loved so much about his game, particularly his benefits provided to our press. I loved his wide-ranging, flexible offensive game. He was dramatic and exciting on both ends of the floor. His game had a flair that I fell in love with.

^^^Well-said, McKDaddy.  My sentiments exactly. would you agree with me that he basically was the ultimate Nolan type of player?  :razorback:

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

If I have to choose just one it would be Moncrief, but I prefer if I can just choose the triplets ( Moncrief, Marvin Delph and Ron Brewer). They made Arkansas Razorback basketball relevant again after more than 25 years of mediocrity.

  Same for me.

ShadowHawg

Moncrief. He could do it all and made it look easy. He was part of the triplets but carried the hogs after Brewer and Delph were gone.

Sydney, obvious reasons, and Beck. Beck got it done in the clutch.

Kareem Reid or Pat Bradley... Idk if we'll ever see another Kareem Reid at Bud Walton

Corliss! No big man ever ran the court like him. He was listed 6'7" and that was a stretch. I'll never forget the show he put on against Rasheed Wallace and UNC in the 95 Final Four. I'm from Dover and Corliss was from Russellville just down the road. If your from Dover u do just about everything in Russellville, work, shop, eat out, etc. Of course the fact that we won the NC with him as the catalyst helps his place in my heart as well.

1. Corliss
2. Day
3. Thurman

Super Sid may be the best in Razorback history, but I never watched him in my lifetime.

Corey Beck... Had the leadership and toughness you want in your point guard.   Clint McDaniel might be the most underrated player we've had.  Great defense and same toughness as Beck.

This is an interesting thread.  Suspect you can guess a person's age group by what players they are naming.

phadedhawg

Lee Mayberry though I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Cannon Whitbey.  He was my first favorite player.  When we was a kid I'd always be yelling for him to shoot it.

Joe Johnson was a great player, but he just didn't play enough for us for me to put him in any category like this.  Did he even play a full season while he was here?

Almost two full seasons.  He became eligible after his first semester and stayed through his sophomore year.

Too young to remember the triplets, so I'd say:

Corliss
Day
Scotty

I was thinking he was hurt his second year and missed significant playing time.

Let's not forget Clint McDaniel was a pretty good shooter also. People only think about his defense though.

Derek Hood and Brandon Dean.
Real talk, Brandon Dean is very underrated. One of my favorite Hogs also. Little man could jump out of the gym. If he had a little more help around him they could have been real good.

I was in kindergarten and my class took a field trip to a fire station. On their coffee table was the Sports Illustrated issue with Super Sid ("High on the Hogs") and I stopped for a glance. One of the firemen asked, "Do you know who that is?" which I excitedly answered "Sidney Moncrief!"
My teacher laughed and told him, "Oh yeah, Mr. <last name> knows all about basketball." He heard the last name and laughed himself because he knew my family (isn't growing up in small town Arkansas great!) and that my older brothers were gym rats so I was receiving an early education on Razorback basketball. I don't remember much about Sid being that young but I definitely knew the importance of him and the Triplets was on the program.

But, as far as the one I just couldn't get enough of was Alex Dillard. The range he had and the streaks he could go on were just amazing. You knew Sid, Corliss, Thurman, Day would do what they were going to do but when Dillard got in a zone.....game over! He could hit 2 or 3 quick ones forcing teams to readjust just making it impossible to guard everyone on the court.

Dean was the reason for our 1 and only SEC Tournament Championship in 2000. He was off the hook those 4 games.

As far as on the court, Dwight Stewart.  Dwight had all kinds of game!  He'd take you inside & dunk on you or draw you out & drain a 3 over your head!  For a big dude, he played like a fast guard/forward combo & I love the way he played.

As far as personality + game = Kareem Reid.  I had a couple of classes with him at U of A and he could light up a room.  He was super funny & always had these great one-liner comebacks for just about anything.  Just an all around nice guy.

I loved it when Stewart would take over point during a game.  It was an effective way to reshuffle the offense and he just looked so cool doing it.

His crossover dunk against Auburn in the SEC Championship game is still one of the best i have ever seen.

His overall career stats aren't that impressive, about 10 ppg, 2 rebs, 2 says, and 1.5 stls. But he was sure fun to watch.

Ironhawg

Without a doubt Sidney, Marvin and Ron Sr.  Those three guys started the ascent of Razorback basketball.

EastexHawg

Marvin Delph was my first favorite Hog.  He was probably the best pure shooter we ever had.  Imagine how many points he would have scored if the three point shot had existed back then.

Day
Sidney
Corliss
Mayberry
Big O

This group, but I'd switch the order. I consider Sid a founding father of Razorback basketball. Another reason I'd put him #1 is I saw him play. Also, he was a 4-year player—like Mayberry, Day and Miller—something we'll probably never see again with a great player.

Sidney
Corliss
Day
Mayberry (ranking Day and Mayberry is really a toss-up for me)
Big O

Edit, after scrolling down a few threads. Sorry O, you got bumped for Ulysses U.S. Reed.
