 Hugh Kellenberger‏Verified account @HKellenbergerCL Aug 29

Instead of power rankings this year I'm doing the tiers of the SEC. An explainer below. http://www.clarionledger.com/story/nletter/the-a-gap/2017/08/29/gap-tiers-sec/611275001/

Quote
And with that, here we go:

    Tier 1
Alabama

    Tier 4

Arkansas: We're still waiting on the breakthrough season. It'll come at some point, surely.

Kentucky: It feels weird to have any preseason optimism about the Wildcats, but here we are.

State: We're going to find out about the Bulldogs in Week 3 against LSU.

A&M: Know this — whoever starts for Texas A&M at quarterback this week will somehow be your Week 1 Heisman front-runner.

Tennessee: Butch Jones said he's willing to let the QB competition go to warmups on Monday against Georgia Tech. I'm sure that means both guys look great, he says in jest.

Vanderbilt: Yeah, I guess. I like Derek Mason. I like Ralph Webb. Why not?

    Tier 5

Missouri: Offense scores points. Defense stops the other team. The Tigers have figured out the former, working on the latter.

Ole Miss: There's no Shreveport in the Rebels' future, but maybe a win in Covington, Kentucky in two weeks?

Significant shift happens for Georgia-Notre Dame betting line

Quote
Notre Dame has opened up as a 6.5-point favorite after news of quarterback Jacob Eason’s absence from the game was known. That’s a jump from the Fighting Irish being consider a 4-point favorite Sunday night, before multiple betting sites took the line down.

Brad Powers @BradPowers7

WOAH! With QB Eason out, Notre Dame opens up as a 6.5-point favorite over Georgia!

Yahoo’s Pat Forde rips SEC West: ‘Could be Nick Saban and a bunch of schmoes’

Quote
Auburn (3) flopped at Clemson, scoring six points. Auburn has averaged 8.3 points in its past three road games (Georgia and Alabama last year, Clemson this year, all losses) and scored one touchdown in those three games. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham was sacked an ungodly 11 times –  which undoubtedly is testament to the outrageous talent of the Clemson defensive front, but also a condemnation of Auburn.

Arkansas (4) was suffocated, ...

The travails of Texas A&M (5) are documented and might be getting worse.

SEC Predictions, Week 3: Tennessee-Florida, LSU-Mississippi State and several nonconference clashes with Power 5 teams

Quote
A&M is a trainwreck right now. The Aggies could barely slip past FCS Nicholls State, 24-14, last weekend after blowing a 34-point lead to UCLA in Week 1. Louisiana (formerly Louisiana-Lafayette) has averaged 45 points in its first two contests, and figures to make life stressful for the 12th Man in College Station... The pick: Texas A&M.

No. 23 Tennessee at No. 24 Florida
Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS)
The pick: Tennessee
