If in fact he did know Tuesday morning that Altman was having second thoughts, why did he leave anyway?

Even if he didn't know about Altman's doubts, don't you think JFB should have maybe been around for the first few days of Altman's career here anyway?

How many of your bosses hired you then left town the next day instead of being there to help you get started?  I might be having second thoughts too.

Sucks to be a hog fan right now  :puke:  If I could, I would transfer my allegiance to Florida.  (too bad I love the Hogs too much and won't ever change)

It is Masters week and he is a member of the most prestigious country club in America.  I have no problem with him having headed to Augusta National this morning.  I do, however, wonder if he may have pushed Altman to go public before he was ready so he could be on-time for that flight to see Tiger win another green jacket.

But mostly, I wonder how many f-bomb soliloquoys Frank gave after getting firm word that Dana bailed.  There is no way Frank didn't throw a total tirading hissy fit... and had every freakin' right to throw it (if he did).

This makes me sicker the longer I think about it.

Last post in the Tavern here.  See you guys.  Have fun.

I bet you John White has a major problem with JFB being in Augusta. He left White high and dry to face this firestorm all by himself. A coach at a major D1 program bolts town and where is our AD? He's at a freaking golf tournament. That in itself explains exactly what is wrong with our program.

Winner

If he knew Dana was having second thoughts, it is inexcusable for him to go to Augusta. No way around it.

TMc

I agree, and I have defended everyone involved with this.  If JFB was determined to get to the masters, I am glad we are going the search firm route.  Heck, I even heard Otis say tonight we should have done this to begin with.

mr4pt

If indeed he is really at Augusta I have a HUGE problem with that.

It appears that DA isn't the only one "bailing out" on Arkansas.

Imagine you are Dana Altman last night and:

1. You read on the web how you are not wanted by many - mid-major, stayed to long at one school, etc.
2. Read on the web about the U of A football program and all that has happened - good and bad
3. Realize your new boss is not quite on the pedestal that it appears from the distance plus he is a lame duck AD
4. Asks your new boss about the transition plan for the next week as most new employees get and he says, "I'll be on the 9th hole at Augusta"
5. Looks at the news reports from Omaha showing how people miss us and see news media from Omaha at the U of A press conference
6. Looks at your wife and asks, "Just why are we coming here?

No I don't.  In fact, he should stay there and let someone clean up his mess.  He shouldn't have any more involvement with this "search" or "quest" or "hand-in-hat fest".  Stay at Augusta Frank!!!

Obviously he values his golf more than the UofA hoops program.  Fine.  Stay in Augusta.  I'm the national search firm will do a great job finding a coach who wants be part of Razorback Nation.  UofA still has plenty to offer.  We just need a fresh face making it.

It seems like he has basically been removed from his duties anyway.  Might as well be at Augusta, looks like he's through with coaches.  We'll have to hit the next Grand Slam without him.
Advice for reading posts on Hogville:  Think about how stupid the average person is.  Then, remember that half of the people are more stupid than that.  So relax and take it easy on 'em.

He's clearly not focused on what is important.  Priorities, a man's got to have his priorities straight.  Frank was clearly much more focused on a stinking golf tournament than work.  I know it's only a one time a year thing, but if an 82 year old man feels he must attend a golf tournament in stead of working, he should have retired effective immediately.

Karma

Huge problem. Even if he didn't know DA was having second thoughts, he should have stuck around another day to show the man around.

Jim

I don't have a problem with him being in Augusta...just please stay there.  My overall problem with JFB is JFB himself.  His ego continues to eat away at himself and his "legacy" and the inattention to detail is now being amplified on national outlets and message boards, scaring away ANY real viable coach to even attempt to restore (or resurrect) the U of A basketball program.

Stay in Ge-oh-guh, Frank.

I'm tired of spelling "Arkansas" with "JFB" somewhere in the mix.

Frank Broyles is the reason the athletic department is in this state of flux.

I have no problem with him going to Augusta AS LOOK AS THE OLD FOOL NEVER VRETURNS TO THE STATE OF ARKANSAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the search firm White's way to use the power of the veto over JFB?
I was there when we melted the internet!  Were you?

Blue35

No, not really a big problem.  How was Frank supposed to know that this chicken sh*t coach was going to get cold feet. Frank can come back just as fast as he went. It is more Altman's fault than Franks.  Altman is a wishy-washy worm. I did not like him anyway.

OKC

I've supported Frank, thinking he has done a lot of good things for the university..and he has...but, this job comes first, I don't see a gray area.

HognotinMemphis

I'm glad he's anywhere but Fayetteville. If he's not there, he can't screw anything up there.
I don't want you to agree with me because you're weak. I want you to agree with me because you know I'm right.

AnthroHog

I have a problem with him jetting off even though he knew that Altman was contemplating leaving.

He heard from Altman at 9:00 AM that Dana was having second thoughts.  JFB had lunch with Altman, Van Horn, McDonnell, and White under the pretense of convincing Altman to stay.  Then between lunch and at least 5:15 he goes to Augusta.  Anyone know what time he left for Augusta?

Yesterday, while I was watching the press conference, I wondered if Broyles was happier that he was getting to go to Augusta the next day, rather than hiring the "right man" for the job.  I think we may have found our answer.

PAHog

It's right where Frank belongs.  He should of been on the golf course while someone else was doing a job that he used to do years ago.  Rail on Broyles all you want, but it's those that had the ability to make a change at the top 7-8 years ago (before the Nutt hire) that are to blame.  The world of big-time college athletics has passed him buy.  I don't doubt that he loves the University.  He has made Razorback Road one of the most impressive 1.5 miles stretches of athletic facilities in the country.  The money and the cloak and dagger of what has become the game of hiring college coaches was beyond him.

Please, Dana Altman knew what he was getting into. He knew we had talked to big names and they had turned us down. He had to know that he would have to prove himself to most. I doubt that he even had time to get on the net, much less find our little corner of the net. He might have looke at the job and found it too big for him. At least he did it upfront and didn't wait until we had to fire him in a couple of years. At any rate we are set back two to three years from all this mess, but I am not sure I can blame that all on DA. JFB has screwed this up from the beginning.
Sittin in the morning sun, I'll be sittin here when evening comes.

pisses me off that not only was he not here, the turned back around and went BACK,  stay there and let the huggers road trip to pay their respects for his arse

I think this works out for the good.  I liked John White's comments to the press this afternoon.  He was calm and concise and said basically money was not going to be an issue and I especially liked how he stated we would use an executive search firm.  I felt much, much better after listening to him talk.  Everything is going to be fine- probably better than fine...

pignatious

I don't have a problem with Broyles being at Augusta. He should stay there permanently. I do have a problem with him continuing to occupy his office as AD. He has become a joke.
Freedom is never free.

vol_in_ar

It's the Masters and he had a coach, so why not go

Gojays

I'm sure a lot of you are p*ssed as heck at Altman, and I can't blame you.  I want to say that J. White has handled this with pure class, his comment about understanding family and wanting to beat Altman in the final four is pretty classy, I'm sure he's upset but he stayed above board.  I really think one of the reasons DA changed his mind is exactly what you are talking about here.  At CU he had a tremendous relationship with the AD, and as soon as he was hired here FB was on his way out of town to a golf tourney which is why the hire was probably rushed to the alter.  The pig call was awkward but had nothing to do with this - yeah as an outsider it seems a little hokey but I respect it - I like tradition and it is tradition.  DA doesn't even own a computer so he didn't know good or bad what the boards were saying.

Good luck with the hiring process, you will get a winner and will probably make a sweet 16 run next year while CU will be rebuilding hoping at an outside shot to make the dance.  We're happy to have DA back but understand your pain (whether you were for DA or against) of trying to hire again.

Uh-oh.  When a man of the cloth have a problem with it(who strangely posts in the Tavern at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings), we just maybe may possibly be in trouble for sure!

It is regretful that we are wasting jet fuel sending the bird back and forth.  Make Frank deal with Hartsfield Airport like the rest of us have to....

silvertip

I have no problem with JFB at Augusta. I have a problem with him being on the payroll & occupying the office of AD without doing the work.

Ultimately the fault lies with Jim Lindsey & other spineless BOT members, who kept this senile fossil employed, and intend to keep him sucking $260,000/year out of the program until he turns 90.

Starting at least with the Harrod fiasco, practically everything in the Hog program that Frank touches has turned to crap. We will be lucky if he doesn't leave us with another NCAA investigation.

merccedes

I have a problem with it! He didnt take me with him.

Frank should have a the very least been here DA's first full day and get the contract squared away.....

Maybe White's first search firm should be for a NEW AD!!! :-[

V B Porkers

Frank is never here when problems arise in any athletic program. He is always out of town. Golf is his usual excuse. How much vacation time does he get? He needs to go and I mean yesterday. He is a big expense and needs to go. He is also a big embarrassment to the state and university.

gomersnerd

Would he stand for it if it was an employee???
It's time to burn a lower case "t" in his yard to tell him "It's time for you to go".

Yep.  It time for Coach Nutt to step in and take over.
