Terrible, just terrible and it's all on Mike.

FreshHog

Its not on Mike. Are you actually this clueless? The players have a BRAND NEW PRACTICE FACILITY... 24 hour access... They should be in their working on their FT's... mike cant make the FT's for them.

Also the refs royally [CENSORED] us down the stretch.

ErieHog

Coming into today, this was one of the four best FT shooting teams since our national title.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Uga was worse.  16-30

Just an off day for the Hogs from the line which will probably be blamed on fatigue from the short turnaround from the UK game and travel.  Our team last season didn't play well on a short turnaround either.  We are supposed to be in superior condition though ;).

Yeah I am guessing worst of the year by a good margin!

The practice facilities are really paying off.

In the end, we shot just over 60% from the line tonight -- 17/28.   Our previous game, was our low point in FT shooting, or else this team would be pushing for our best FT shooting team since 94.

Yeah....FT's were bad but I am much more concerned with our ability defend a screen being set. Instead of doubling or fighting through or under, several times we tried to go over the top or simply switched. Why switch? If you can't get through the screen then double the ball handler. The guys UGA were using to set the picks out high were no threat at all.....

Also...we have to learn to set screens better on offense. Many times Bell and Hannahs are playing too quick and not allowing the screener to get set in order to effectively use the screen.

Agree on both.  We switch too willingly.  And the inability to successfully free shooters on the off end cost us Th night.

We didn't make them when it mattered. Just like we didn't make the inbound pass off the timeout when it mattered, or just like Mike didn't recruit when it mattered. That's ok though, let's just write this game and season off as a fluke.

This year was a complete write off from the day Portis declared;  most of our basketball fans understood that.   This team has been overachieving, relative to its talent, to date.   It is neither surprising nor worrisome that it is coming back towards the mean, in road games like this.

Maybe Mike can take a pay cut while we're performing in the low 70's in year FIVE. KenPom says we're number 61. Mike's the #20 highest paid coach in CBB. Maybe Mike can give back that $2,037,311 extra we pay him?

Why are we discussing this in free throw thread ???

Next year should be a challenge for the tournament.   Scheduling will probably be better-- though it will help if Simmons leave LSU, as we get them twice a year.

Terrible substitutions to night.  An example, we had a 7 point lead early in the game and coach put in 3 new guards who as a group are not scorers and  after about 4 minutes we are down by 1.  They out score us 9 to 1 with those new guards  and we never really got the momentum back again.  Right now Whitt is really struggling with his confidence and offense,  Watkins has no SEC athletic ability especially offensively and Beard is just not able to get it done without better offensive players around him.   Coach loves long athletic aggressive defensive minded guards and I just don't see many on this team.    Come on Coach and RECRUIT.

I really think MIKE is a one trick pony when it comes to winning BB games.   If he cannot get the rat race pace up and down the court BB game he loves to coach then he gets eat up by better coaches in our league.  Opposing Coaches are forcing him to play their tempo because he doesn't have the players to force his pace and win.  Well it is his fault he does not have his players.

I just don't see a .500  SEC winning pct. this year and if coach stays 10 years he might be a little bit over .500 winning pct. in Conference play.  Mike has been here 5 years.  This is all his fault and all his team.   No excuses.

Yeah...I can understand switching against teams that have athletic and good ball handling 4 and 5 men but UGA does not have guys that are a threat that far out. I saw at least 16 points that UGA scored directly because of our inability to play the ball handler on a screen. I was shaking my head through out the game especially in the second half.

Then our FT's....what can be said about that. If you want to win on the road against average to good teams you have to convert at the line.

Also...why was Miles getting so many minutes? He looks confused on defense half the time. Literally....half the time.

PonderinHog

Pick your poison.  We lack complete players.  Not even talking 100% complete, either.  I'd settle for 80%.

The alternative that can body with SEC 4s and bigger 3s, is Thompson.

The problem is, he doesn't even look at the rim outside of 12 feet.    And that crushes our offense when he's in the game.

I agree and even made a thread about Thompson's unwillingness to shoot from the elbow out. He catches the ball out there and just holds it looking to pass. Well hell...no coach worth his salt is going to allow that to go unnoticed when playing Arkansas. That creates 5 defenders guarding 4. Thompson finally shot one tonight from about 16 feet but that was it. He needs to spend hours and hours practicing that jumper so he can gain some confidence. The staff at LSU was the first staff to start backing off Thompson and Miles. Then Cal really exposed it. At least Miles is taking the shot and making some of them. Just frustrating to watch. The staff needs to spend all their time in the film room going over screens both on offense and defense. We are the worst and I mean worst defensively against a basic screen that I can ever remember seeing. On offense we can't set a pick to save our lives whether it is bell and dusty not allowing the screen to be set or the screener simply being out of position.

Just frustrated because we can play better than we did tonight. I have seen it. So I know it can be done.

That also....we seem to be out of position a lot especially tonight. We looked really bad against a veteran UGA team. They really did their homework and to think we had a chance to win the game at the end is mind boggling as bad as we played.

You are right most of these guys are underperforming versus their pay.

Performance is one of a ton of factors regarding pay.   And that list should be more current.

It'd also be worth highlighting how many of them are in year 10 or more of their jobs.

Stability has a way of absorbing the hits of a hard season every now and then.

If Kenpom was used to pick the tourney right now the only team not in is Ohio State.

Lon Kruger and Jay Wright will be getting raises this season I expect.

Kruger might;  I think Jay Wright may be in a decision year.  He's sort of hit an upward limit where he is at--  if the new 76ers front office decides to move on from Brett Brown,  I could see him getting a look.

Coach K has to go somewhere eventually;  Tom Izzo has to be  going somewhere.  Boeheim can't last forever.   I don't think Wisconsin has the long term pull, and will probably not look to a guy like Wright to carry on forward.
