I put an X by I think are definite RS candidates.  I put XXX by redshirt candidates at their recruited position but think that special teams might get their RS's pulled.  We have some nice size and speed coming in this year and that can be crucial on special teams.  I also am unsure of the back 7 so much that it's hard to tell.  I hope we don't have to see any of the freshman DB's though this year.  It would be real nice to RS the entire DB class (I'm putting Greenlaw in the LB group and Pettway at WR for those that still question those two)

I think Cantrell's place as an H-back will allow him to get some PT this year.  He is a really versatile guy.

Hoginsavga

Any recruit in this class that can make a difference between a win or a loss should not be redshirted. Winning is the most important thing we can do to continue to elevate future recruiting. Also it hurts to see quality players redshirt and leave after playing their redshirt sophomore year. Last year we were only a couple of players short of perhaps winning two or three more games. I think those players are here now. I am referring to place kicker and wide receivers. As Coach George Allen would say "the future is now".

Seebs

Putting x's is a lot of work. Here is who will see the field next year. All of the TE's will play. All of them. All Jerry.

I would hope at least half the class redshirt. I would think at least one of the TE's RS. At least three of the DL, and 2 of the OL. Do not be too quick to put the RS on TS. I think they want to RS him, but is it possible he will just be too good to be able to do that? The Lb's probably all play out of necessity. One of the Db's will RS. I doubt any of the WR's RS, too much need for a speed/size upgrade there.
People ask me what I do in winter when there is no baseball.  I will tell you what I do. I stare out the window, and I wait for spring.

No, it's not possible.  He will not see the field next year, no matter how good he is.  He will RS next season.  I'd bet my season tickets on it.

It is a message board.  The backup, or in this case 4th string, QB is always better than the returning 5th year SR who has started the last 2 seasons.

Personally I think the Qb pecking order out of spring practice will be BA, AA/RP ( and whoever is not 2nd will leave ) and TS 3rd or 4th ( depending on if someone does leave ).  Either way, it lets them RS TS.

I notice a lot of people have Merrick not red-shirting.  I think he definately will.  Kid has only played football for 2 years.  I think he will need time to shape his body and get up to speed with big time football.

I think all the TE's play. A DL or 2 may get time. Sykes will red shirt.I think most OL will red shirt. Williams may see some PT, but I'd bet red shirt right now. I think all the LB's will play, atleast on special teams. Over all, I see more red shirting of this class than last year. No reflection on their abilities, I just think we have the luxury of doing so more now than we have in a while.

Just a couple of observations:

1 - if we can redshirt over half of our incoming class, that's strong!

2 - TJ Smith is over 280 lbs now?  Holy Cow, that boy is growing fast!  Didn't know he was that big now.

The TE position was the most difficult one for me.  I think any of those guys could come in and play.

And I hear that Cantrell might be our next Payton Hillis.

I wanted to x out a few of the DL, but I think some of these may just be too good to keep off the field. TJ Smith for one. Ledbetter is the JUCO, right? He may not be eligible for a RS? At DT, we decided last season to go with undersized, quick guys instead of big guys. Our second string was about 50 pounds heavier than our starters each. If we want to keep with that scheme, the new guys are more qualified to do that. Our more experienced guys, however, fit more of the mold of double team eaters and hole blockers.

I'm curious...why does everyone think we redshirt Rawleigh Williams?

I think he will be our third best back overall, but he's in a similar position to Storey. RW3 won't be beating out Collins or Williams this year. Behind them and ahead of him are perfectly capable backups with Day, Walker, and Evans. Just like I think Storey will win the battle for starter in 2016, there is no need for him to not RS this season. When Williams graduates this coming year, I think Rawleigh will leapfrog the other guys to jump into one of the primary running positions, and possibly be THE starter if Collins leaves as well.

Personally I think the Qb pecking order out of spring practice will be BA, AA/RP ( and whoever is not 2nd will leave ) and TS 3rd or 4th ( depending on if someone does leave ).  Either way, it lets them RS TS.

They will all still be here in the spring of 2016 when they get to compete for the starting position once BA has left.  Then after that is determined we may see some shuffling.

I believe it because we already got Williams and Collins.
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

I do think one of the TE will RS but I'm not sure who. They each bring something different to the table.

I think Cantrell is a lock for playing time next year.

Gragg and O'Grady are the coin flip for me. If I had a gun to my head I'd choose Gragg.

My favorite of his sayings is "Don't get too smart!"

Hoggish1

Knowing the answer depends on how well the midterm enrollees do at spring practice and how the rest of the recruits compete in fall camp.

These coaches probably have an idea, but they are going to let the kids compete to be sure about who needs more time.

I hope we redshirt all of them but 1, the punter. We have these scholarship players right now:
QB    3
RB    4
FB    4  (not sure if all are scholarship)
OL    9 (plus a couple of walkons)
TE    4
WR   9

DE   6
DT   6
LB    5
CB   7
S     3 (2 of the CB's have the size to play Safety)

So where is the glaring need for one of the new-comers to play?
DE? really? Winston, Wise, Loewen, Beanum and Lewis all played and played well against SEC competition last year. A Brown and J Hall had a RS year to learn the system and work on their bodies.

DT? Maaaybe. Jackson, Hodge, Johnson and Marks all played last year. Johnson was really good and Jackson showed signs of a great career to come. Plus Watts took a RS year and will probably contribute this year. Froholdt may be so good that he just has to play, but is it critical to our season?

WR? If Reed only has 2 to play 2 then obviously he plays! We have 9 and all I heard last year was "boy if we just had Jojo ready". Well, he will be as ready as he ever will be in September. Hatcher, Cornelius, Morgan, Robinson and Edwards are plenty to have a good rotation. Everyone is forgetting Hawkins, finished 4th in the 100 at the Texas HS State Championships! He certainly has enough speed.

Guys, I could do this at every position. I just cannot understand why anyone would think that a HS or JC kid is going to come in and compete against SEC caliber players better than kids that have played against that competition for 2 or 3 years.

This old crap about "if he is going to bite he will bite as a pup" is just plain stupid! Let a pup bite a mature dog and 9 times out of 10 he is going to get his head bitten off!

Let me clear the air on one thing, I think we just signed a GREAT class. A class that if allowed to become 5th year seniors could be something really special.
