Memphis is a 5.5 point fave, so I'll be taking Tennessee ML. But them being favored should tell you what Vegas thinks about the Tigers.

Throwback1

Tells ya what Vegas thinks the fans think about Memphis and Tenn.

Early lines are set to get action started. But they should be favored since they are #1 and at home. But I like our chances.

Why cant a fan talk about more than one game? Ive been discussing the Arky KY game. Both should be good games.

I hate Memphis so I'll be cheering for Tenner.

That being said, I'm not convinced on either team and I don't think they deserve the number 1 and number 2 slots.  Tenner got killed by Texas in the non-conference slate and didn't look so hot and didn't really heat up til SEC play (the SEC is down this year too).  Memphis also played a relatively weak schedule (only USC comes to mind).  However, I believe Memphis is the weaker of the two.  Tennessee's guard play is fantastic and they have a very underrated inside game (as can be seen in their Arkansas win).  Memphis really only has Derrick Rose, but they are pretty set on the inside.  However, I think Tennessee's outside is better than Memphis's outside by a larger margin than Memphis' big men are better than Tenner's big men.  Also, Memphis hasn't played well recently and they can't shoot free throws.  83-72 Tennessee.

Vegas picks the line to make sure the bets are hedged 50/50 on one team or the other

I am tired of hearing about Memphis! They are over-rated every year and especially this year. Tennessee will beat them, Lofton and Smith on the outside are both better shooters than anyone on the Memphis squad and Dorsey is terrible Tyler Smith will get him in to foul trouble early. Tenn's press defense will be to much for the Memphis guards.

Tenn- 88

Memphis- 74

Some guy on here said that Tennessee is way down on the "hate" list of most Razorback fans. I don't know about this?

I can not stand Tennessee. Why?
Let's try that we (Arkansas) are 3-whatever against Tennessee in football. Even though historically Arkansas has the better basketball program, we are down in this count also. Also, all the pr*cks that I have met from Memphis that talk Vols. Also, all the fair weather morons in Eastern Arkansas who wear Tennessee garb. Not to mention, the state of Tennessee does not produce per capita any more d1 football players than does Arkansas, but they have historically had a better football program.

See "hate" can be the fact that Tennessee is better than my team. I don't hate Mississippi State or South Carolina.

As far as who I should pull for: Tennessee.
Dorsey will chump out like he did in the NCAAT last spring. And I think Calipari is an arrogant east coast goomba.

Memphis will win.  Tey've been preparing for 2 weeks now hence their lackluster effort vs UAB.

Although I typically pull for the SEC team, my constitution will not allow me to cheer for anything that is associated with the letters U and T and painted orange.  Additionally I would be forced to puncture my eardrums with an icepick due to the incestuous refrain of "Rocky Top" repeated over and over.

Sorry ALLVOL, you seem like a class individual.  I'll be cheering for Mempiss State Correctional Institution in this one.
If you don't know, now you know.

Throwback1

In no order, I would think all would be more hated than Tenn.:
Alabama
LSU
Florida
Texas
Oklahoma
Ole Miss

......maybe more?

No, Vegas sets the line so they can win the majority of the bets.

One of my friends is a Tennessee graduate. We drove to Dallas together for the 1990 Cotton Bowl and sat together. So it is not about hating individuals, but teams.

And if Arkansas whips Tennessee's a$$ about 8 times in a row, you might not like it either.

No, Vegas sets the line so they can win the majority of the bets.

Vegas doesn't set the line so that they can win the majority of the gets.  That's too much of a risk for them.  They want to get money regardless of the outcome of the game, because as you well know, games can go any way.  It's simple probability.  When you bet 100 bucks, if you win the bet, you usually only get 90 bucks on top of that 100.  But if you lose, you lose 100 bucks.  Now, let's say 1000 people bet 100 bucks on a particular game.  Vegas sets the line so that roughly 500 will bet on Team A and 500 will bet on Team B.  Now of course one of those teams will lose (let's say Team B loses).  So 500 people win their bet, which means Vegas pays out

$90 x 500 = $4500 in losses

However, Vegas recoups that plus a bit more with what they win

$100 x 500 = $5000 in gains

$5000-$4500 =$500 gain for Vegas

Obviously Vegas doesn't make its money on $500, but take this model and apply it to tons and tons of games with tons and tons of people.  This applies to a lot of what Vegas does.  In roulette for example, your payoff odds are 35-1.  But your chances are winning are 1/36.  So if you bet one dollar 36 times, you will win once and get 35 bucks back total.  But you will lose  36 bucks so the net win is for the house.  Like they always say, the House always wins.

I read that, and obviously Vegas will adjust their lines if they're sure what the public response will do, but also consider this.  On ESPN, they used to put the analyst picks for the NFL games every week.  They would then display the percentages of how many games they got right.  Then they would compare it to the sportsnation polls.  In nearly every situation, sportsnation was significantly higher than the "experts" in the percentages that it got correct.  They stopped displaying the sportsnation polls next to the experts because it made them look bad.

bottom line is that the line is generally about "action"

Are you referring to the Vegas Showgirls or the Bunny Ranch?

ALL RED IS RAZORBACK RED

UofMemphis

"Why I like our chances. UT has beaten them the last 2 years, 06 in Memphis and last year at Knoxville. Most of the starters on UT were on the team last year when Memphis was a top team nationally, so there will be no intimidation. The UT players think they will win and that is very important. Also Pearl has not lost to Cal yet while coaching at UT."

that's not true...the last 3 games in the series go:

12/15/01 UT @Memphis - Memphis wins 71-69
1/18/06  UT @Memphis - Memphis wins 88-79
12/06/06 Memphis @ UT - UT wins 76-58

Bruce Pearl is 1-1 against Cal...but only 1 has a Final Four, or has ever been an NBA head coach.

Tennessee is a great team...if Lofton/the 3 Smith's get hot, there is not much we can do...but this game is at FedExForum, and UT is a very different team on the road...just ask Texas and Kentucky.

it should be a great atmosphere...Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley will be there...Peyton and Eli Manning will be there...Issac Bruce and Issac Hayes will also be there...should be a fun time on Beale.

Go Tigers!!!

The Vols will win this one going away .Memphis hasn't seen a defence like the vols ,and the vols offence is awesome. :razorback:

The problem is the Vols' defenSe has not seen a team as talented as Memphis. They aren't going to be able to outrun Memphis in the second half like they do other teams.

Personally, I don't like UThug.  Could never pull for them (except vs. LSUx).  Now that I think about it, I hate the SEC...I hate Ole Mess, the Leghumpers, the corndogs, Bummer, Awbarn, the other Leghumpers, USCocks, Kentucky St., FU, and Vandy.....ahhhh I feel better
