I was kind of expecting one today, but it's Saturday and the BB team had a home game. Announcements of this type are usually on a weekday unless it's a firing at the the end of the season. Maybe Monday?

We obviously don't know what exactly's going on behind the scenes. Negotiations, still awaiting a game (or two) to be played, etc. Since there's only been speculation and innuendos thrown around we're just going to have to wait until the REAL issues and folks involved are gotten into their proper places.

Didn't that clause in Chavis' contract run through December 31st?  If so, seems like Monday would be right unless they terminate him first.

I won't start thinking things like this unless Chavis is not named by next Friday.  I see no reason that we would need to wait that long, but waiting until after Jan 1 seems like a logical, contract-related situation.  All supposition on my part...hell, for all I know, they plan to hire Willie Robinson, but need to wait until after Feb 7 so that defensive recruits aren't scared off.  :-)

My guess is there will be no official announcement until after Jan 9, when the 10th coach is allowed, then Coach Morris will hold a press conference and introduce his entire staff.  I would think he would want as much publicity about this as possible for recruits to see.  Especially if he has hired some big names.

It has never made any kind of sense to me why BV would leave the situation he has to come here as a DC. Add onto it that his son has already signed to Clemson and I would think that ship has clearly sailed. But we're all still waiting at the dock saying, "But Chad told us that we'd get the best DC in the country..."

Nope. coach Morris stated he would officially announced his entire coaching staff all at once. so that could be the reason for the delay.

I agree. Not having a DC has caused me an undue amount of stress, angst, and anxiety. The sooner we name one the sooner I can focus on important stuff like replacing forward facing hog.

It's not slave labor. If he wants to come here, we can afford to make it happen. We will have to pay wether they fire him or not.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know how good the kid truly is, but if I had any possible advantage over other players of getting in the spotlight to possibly get into the NFL to make millions of dollars, I'd do it. Even if it meant playing for my dad.


Also, on the flip side, if the kid flipped and committed to Arkansas, what would you think about that? Would you think Venables would be coming here if that happened?

Yes, but if they don't want to pay his buyout for firing him, and he/we don't want to pay his buyout for leaving, then there is a negotiated time for this to happen.

Contract runs through 31 Dec 2018.  He will have to be fired by A&M for him to come to Arkansas which what everyone is expecting to happen.
