'Oh, to be Auburn in the time of Nick Saban'

The enormous videoboard inside Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium is 190-feet long and 57-feet high. Apparently, according to Auburn, it's the largest TV in college football. That's what they like to say. Like most big toys, the videoboard might be overcompensating for something.

Everyone who watches a football game in Auburn loves it, of course, and especially when they show pictures of Bo Jackson, or Cam Newton, or Alabama losing.

Obviously, that last one hasn't happened much since the big TV went up before last season, but it happened on Saturday.

Alabama was losing to Ole Miss by a great margin when the operators of Auburn's big TV decided to flip on the game inside the stadium. This was more than an hour before Auburn's kickoff, but already there were thousands of students and fans in their seats. Everyone cheered when Ole Miss scored a touchdown, and it was such a fun moment that one of Auburn's in-house reporters pulled out his camera inside the press box and snapped a picture.

Remember that time Ole Miss led Alabama 24-10?

Oh, the memories.

To be Auburn in the time of Nick Saban is to appreciate the smaller joys of life. Or, put another way, it's a time to waste money on the bigger distractions.

Auburn may be talking to Petrino or Briles agents this am.
I've always thought if either of those guys coached in the SEC after the off the field problems would be Auburn that gives them the chance

...I have suffered through underperforming, disappointing season after dissappointing season under Gus Malzahn . It's time for a change.

Gus Malzahn is a hardheaded, stubborn, unimaginative coach. He has taken a remarkably talented team and has been out-coached, out-schemed, and he's underdeveloped players, generally leading the team to mediocrity over and over again.

Apparently our flagship university can't afford to buy him out of his contract, so I figured if we raised the money then they wouldn't have any excuse as to why we can't fire him.

In the likely event that Auburn will not accept the funds raised here, all monies will be donated to the Toys for Tots.

Maybe Malzahn can pawn it, or trade it straight up with Louisville for quarterback Lamar Jackson's backup. Would Bobby Petrino let his backup quarterback transfer to Auburn for Auburn's 190-foot videoboard?"

It's bad enough to be a flummoxed former genius, to be in the midst of an offensive identity crisis while sitting on one of the hottest seats in college football. But it's worse to be all of those things when your rival is Nick Saban, a flourishing former robot suddenly adapting and conquering like some sort of deadly super virus.

Gus Malzahn could use a shot in the arm. Auburn's coach, whose boss called him "the best offensive mind in the nation" this summer, is well on his way to a second straight sputtering season on that side of the ball. After ranking 74th nationally in scoring last fall, the Tigers are off to a 1-2 start this year thanks to 29 combined points against Clemson and Texas A&M.

Give him a dazzling, dual-threat SEC transfer – by way of junior college – and Malzahn looks like a wizard. See Cam Newton in 2010 and Nick Marshall in 2013. But give him Jeremy Johnson, Sean White and Florida State (by way of JUCO) transfer John Franklin III and ...
