So, in a way, you've proven my point.
Yes, I understand what you are saying.  This is the best it gets for football.  Can't say you are wrong.  I have already accepted it.

Quote from: Salty spork on Yesterday at 10:06:29 pmAll that makes sense. But I don't think the sun belt is at play here.  Those schools cannot afford to play this game. Big 12 is questionable.

The reason I see some sort of cap is competitive balance. I think that will be part of the conversation. I think this is really a two conference play. ACC May come along for the ride or it may dissolve.

I will be really interested in what happens to the other sports if football goes off on its own. I foresee smaller more regional conferences for sports that don't make much money.

I'm talking about if it happened right now or even last year, but I agree. ACC has a good a chance of existing in 5 years time as the PAC has a chance of reforming with the same teams.

That leaves the Big 12 in a potentially interesting predicament. They are full of teams that are too good honestly to be part of the G5, but not good enough to be part of the P2. Plus, most of those schools don't exactly have a big connection or loyalty to the Big 12 so it could easily splinter and fracture too.

As for the other sports, I agree, and honestly, most sports, IMO, would be better off going back to the 'club' type of mentality. I'm of the opinion that no state funds/taxpayer funds, or student fees should go to athletics. Unless that swim coach is willing to give swim lessons to EVERY student, etc... Heck, not to pick on swim, but according to

https://swimswam.com/want-to-earn-the-big-bucks-be-a-d1-head-swim-coach/

even the 50-100th ranked swim coaches (ranked by salary) still have a median salary of 100k a year. Is that really necessary? Sure, if they bring in tons of money then by all means. But if their salary is coming from football money, taxpayer money, or student fees, then absolutely freaking not.

LSU – 9-15 (31-18)
Ole Miss – 9-15 (25-22)
Auburn – 4-20 (22-24)

Tennessee ranked No. 1 in the country, but Kentucky on top in SEC standings
Tennessee and Kentucky left the first weekend of May on top.

After taking 2-of-3 at Florida to improve to 39-9 overall and 17-7 in the SEC, the Volunteers are being ranked No. 1 in the nation by both D1Baseball and Baseball America. UT is 11-1 in weekend series and has an 8-5 mark against BA top-25 teams.

While Kentucky isn't ranked as high, UK is currently top dog, er, Cat, in the SEC.

Tennessee visits Ole Miss 4-star LB commit Jarcoby Hopson

by: Hunter Shelton

QuoteOn April 22, Horn Lake (Miss.) Lake Cormorant four-star linebacker Jarcoby Hopson came off the board, announcing his commitment to the in-state Ole Miss Rebels.

No program was able to garner momentum with the 6-foot-1.5, 205-pounder like Lane Kiffin's did. A pledge to Ole Miss looked to be in the cards for some time and it eventually came last month. That isn't stopping other schools from continuing to recruit Hopson.

On Monday, the @@Blue-Chip LB was visited by Tennessee LBs coach William Inge:

BREAKING: Pat Knight to be named next head coach at Marian University

by: Talia Goodman

QuotePat Knight, the son of Hall of Fame coach Bob Knight, will take over as the head coach at NAIA Marian University in Indianapolis, sources told On3.

An official announcement is expected later this week.

Knight will take over at Marian University for Scott Heady, who stepped down to take over at his alma mater, Division II University of Indianapolis. Heady took over in 2017 and was 168-56 in his tenure.

Knight had a strong connection to Marian as its athletic director is former Indiana player and associate athletic director Steve Downing.

Knight, 53, has been a college scout for the Indiana Pacers West Coast Region since 2014 after being let go after three seasons at the helm at Lamar University. Knight also replaced his father at Texas Tech in 2008, and spent the next three full seasons as the head coach with the Red Raiders.
