....they had been in the SEC last year? I can't stand Mark May from ESPN, he said even if the Whorns had been in the SEC last year that they would have won the title and gone undefeated. So, they would have beaten ANY SEC team last year............ ???
I think they would have lost at least 2 and more than likely, 3!!!!!!!!!

Of course they would have gone undefeated in the SEC.  You all think they were good enough to beat USC but not good enough to beat anyone in the SEC??  That is a joke.  Texas was the best team last year, learn to live with it.
Lets band together and back BP

I'm not sure two or three, but yes they would have lost.  When you play Baylor, KU, Colorado and then OU and then back to OSU... you can rest starters for just the big games.  You can stay healthy that way instead of being banged up.  Also, factor in the road venues in the SEC vs the Little 12 and there is no comparison.  Texass would have had a game in the SEC just like they had at Stillwater last year and would have lost.

They would lose two or three this season without VY if they were in the SEC.  Instead they have one tough opponent(Ohio St) and a decent one in OU and bunch of mediocre to pansies.  Not tough to stay healthy, build depth and have great seasons vs that.

Just becuase they beat a down Oklahoma team and pulled out a win against USC, doesn't mean they could go undefeated in the SEC where they would have had to play 3 or 4 teams the caliber of USC.  and no USC would not have gone undefeated in the SEC either.  put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Yep and thanks to the stonehand TE from Ohio St and Pete Carroll's Nutt-like decision to not run reggie Bush on 4th down, we will have to put up with Texass crap all season.

They could've lost, but if they did it would've been an upset.

Remember they beat #2 USC in LA, and #3 OSU in Columbus.  If they could win those games I have no reason to believe any SEC team could've beaten them.

It wouldn't be a one game scenario vs the SEC.  I would love to see their depth or OU's depth tested every week and see how they look after 5 or 6 SEC games vs what they look like after breezing through the Little 12.

Atreyu

The SEC is a lot more physical than the big 12. Texas would've been beat up every week.

Yes, they did beat USC last year, but that doesn't guarantee that they would have been undefeated in the SEC.  That Big 12 was weak.  Even Oklahoma was down last year.

Remember they beat #2 USC in LA, and #3 OSU in Columbus.  If they could win those games I have no reason to believe any SEC team could've beaten them.

So Cal and Oh St could have and would have beaten them if not for a couple of bonehead mistakes.  Both of those games could have gone either way and actually Oh St and So Cal were both in control of those games.

In the first half, if Reggie Bush holds on to the ball and doesn't fumble on his big run, So Cal starts putting some distance between them.  If troy smith hadn't been forced to sit out the first part of the Oh St game, the Buckeyes put some distance between them.  And I go back to Stillwater and the beating Okie St was putting on them before they allowed VY to win it by himself.

Texass was not a great team last year.  They were again poorly coached but had one player who could make a difference.

IMO, Vince Young WAS the best player in the country, but that doesn't send you unscathed in the SEC!

Who knows if VY stayed healthy running the ball in the SEC.  Would he have done what he did to Bama's D for instance and remained healthy to come back the next week and do the same to LSU or Auburn?  So Cal's D wasn't close to those D's last year and forget anything in the Little 12 resembling them.

Ole Miss, Miss State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt (who lost at home to Middle Tenn State) are terrible teams. . .Tennessee was not good last season. . .Arkansas was not good last season at all. . .that is half of the conference.  SCarolina got beat by Missouri. . .a Big 12 team.  How exactly is it again that the SEC was such a powerhouse?  Ga, Bama and Auburn were teh only consistent teams. . .

You're going with what you wished happened and not what did happen.  So they had a great player who didn't let them lose.  True, but that doesn't diminish the fact that it happened.

They were the best team last year.  Additionally, the SEC had a down year.  Sure, the Big 12 was weaker, but its not like Texas struggled at all in the Big 12.

I bet you were conviced USC would beat the crap out of Texas last year, weren't you?  How'd that work out for you?  I bet you also predicted OU would beat?  I bet you also predicted Ohio State would beat them?  I know almost everyone on this board predicted Texas would lose all three of those games.

So now what do we do now?  Predict that they would lose in the SEC.  Its a safe prediction because it obviously can't be proven wrong and makes everyone feel better about themselves.

....they had been in the SEC last year? I can't stand Mark May from ESPN, he said even if the Whorns had been in the SEC last year that they would have won the title and gone undefeated. So, they would have beaten ANY SEC team last year............ ???
I think they would have lost at least 2 and more than likely, 3!!!!!!!!!

Whatttayathink??

I think you're rediculous.

It was possible for Auburn to make it through the almighty SEC without a scratch in 2004, but the best Texas team in over three decades defeating the best D1 team we've seen since Miami in the 90's couldn't?  And they would have "more than likely" lost THREE games?

My God, some of y'all are morons.

If you think Texas would have beaten Auburn last year.....I want some of what your smokin!

And this is why the SEC may not have a NC for a long time.  League is too freaking tough.  The league beats up on itself all year long, leaving the undefeated seasons to guys from conferences that are not as strong top to bottom as the SEC is.  Thats why WV is the flavor of the moth this year.  They play ONE game all year LOUISVILLE, thats it.  If WV does not go 11-1 they should be labled as huge underachievers.

NO, TX would not have gone unbeaten in the SEC, UNLESS they were in the west and played Vandy Sc and KY from the East.

Of course they would have gone undefeated in the SEC.  You all think they were good enough to beat USC but not good enough to beat anyone in the SEC??  That is a joke.  Texas was the best team last year, learn to live with it.

They wouldn't have gone undefeated because they would have played a quality team most weeks.  They beat three great teams last year, give them credit for that (even though I hate em), but what would have happened when they had to play LSU, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and Alabama?  My guess is they would trip up on one of those games.

Landonhog

I think Texas would probably beat any team in the '05 SEC, but I don't think TX could beat them every week...  I don't know if that makes sense, but I'm saying TX is a 10 and the SEC has a bunch of 7's, 8's, and 9's...  If you have to play these teams every stinking week, you're eventually going to slip up and have a bad week...

I'm not disagreeing with that, but the SEC would have beat him up throughout the season!!!

QuoteYou said that the SEC was SOOOO much better than the Big 12. . .no off weeks to rest guys.  I called you on it.  I never said that the SEC was worse.  Its like most conferences, a couple of strong teams, a few good teams, and in the SEC's case, six bad to poor teams.

I live in Big 12 country and it's as weak as it gets.  Texas was the best team last year but if they were in the SEC they would have lost at least one game.  Think of it this way... was Arkansas a good team last year?  No.  Did Arkansas win the Georgia game last year? No.  Did Arkansas beat the living crap out of Georgia causing their star QB to miss the following game which Georgia lost.. YES!  That is what makes SEC football so much more brutal than other conferences.  Even a bad team like Arkansas will kick the crap out of you.  They may loose, but you are going to be hurting when it's done.

Vince Young would have been a terror in the SEC.. but I doubt he would have gotten through the year without getting clocked a few times.

cbjagman

IMO had the Horns had to go through the "meat grinder" week after week last year I truly don't think they would have gone undefeated. Too many good teams week in and week out and way too physical. Not saying that they couldn't have won the SEC last year and certainly the NC. The "Big 12" is a joke most years.

What the??? Ole Miss, Miss State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt (who lost at home to Middle Tenn State) are terrible teams. . .Tennessee was not good last season. . .Arkansas was not good last season at all. . .that is half of the conference.  SCarolina got beat by Missouri. . .a Big 12 team.  How exactly is it again that the SEC was such a powerhouse?  Ga, Bama and Auburn were teh only consistent teams. . .

So not only would they get all 4 of OM, Miss St, Ky and Vandy on their sched, but they would get them in a row.  Ok, you missed the whole point.  In your post, you act like they would have gotten to play the worst teams in the conference.  Sure in your scenario, they likely go undefeated even taking into consideration their Stillwater performance.

And Sir Kam you are a total idiot to say that last year's Texass team was the greatest team since Miami in the 90s.  Wow, they needed as much luck as Tenn in 98 to get that championship yet they are the greatest in 10-15 years?  Sure.  And yes I took a personal shot after you called other posters morons and then make a moronic statement like that.

James K. Pork

Depends on their schedule.  If they were playing an Alabama in Tuscaloosa with a healthy Prothro, then they would've been in an incredible fight.  If they were playing away in "The Swamp" or in Athens for one of their SEC East games, then the Gators or the Dawgs would've been able to stand toe-to-toe with them.  If they were in the SEC West, then they would've had to visit either LSU or Auburn.  That would've been a very difficult proposition.  Away games in this conference against the top six to eight teams are usually difficult to win.

The programs that come out of this conference undefeated are usually very special teams that can kill anyone the rest of the nation has to offer.

No doubt in my mind the SEC West was much more difficult than the Big 12 South last season.  This being said, I'm not going to question the merit of a program in that conference.  I remember Osborne's Nebraska cracking open a can of whoop-ass on Darth Visor and Stay-Puff Marshmallow Vol back in the 1990s.  Oklahoma did well in their national title year under Stoops.

Texas beat the greatest offensive team I've ever seen play in college football.  They had the opportunity and took full advantage of it.  That is good enough for me.

they would've beaten Auburn 9 out of 10 times.  Tell me why they wouldn't have.

The teams at the top of the SEC faltered against some bad teams.

Texas would not have lost to GaTech like Auburn did.
Texas would not have lost to Tennessee at home like LSU did
Texas would not have lost to WVU at home like UGA did

It was not a normal year for the SEC.  Do you remember before the Rose Bowl all the coverage about USC being the greatest of all time?  Are you telling me they lost, with a month to prepare, to a team that would have three losses in the SEC?

I will have what YOU are smoking.

I agreed up until LSU and Auburn both ran through the SEC. It sure is tougher than the little 12 though. Texas got fat eating cupcakes last year.

If Texas had been in the SEC they wouldn't of even won the SEC championship, much less the NC. :razorback:

Just kidding, I think at the most they would have lost maybe one game if the had to play Auburn five times in straight.  Look Texas was the best team last year their conf. is no joke, on the other hand USC's conf. is a joke and they would have no chance of making it out of the SEC unbeaten.
