...is absolutely astounding. Yes I posted this in the game thread but you mouth breathers are getting ridiculous. Fire Pel? WTH?? Are you people freaking high? Who do you want to come coach the team? Who do you think would come here if we fired a guy in his second year? Get a freaking clue and understand that this team played out of its mind to beat Texass and Oklahoma (OK and TX played like crap too) and we were gonna lose games this year. You all need to take a step back and chill. Our time will come but it wasn't gonna be this year.

We just lost by 2 points to a pretty good TN team. They've beat some people too.

They have tons more size and depth than us and we still hung in tough and went on good runs.

This game was an improvement compared to the rest. No real reason to freak out after this one. Henry was great, shows so much potential, Welsh and Fortson were good overall and you can't say enough about Washington.

Just came down to free throws and rebounding. Something that's tough to master with a team with so little size and depth.

There is nothing on the horizon to hang our hats on.  We have ONE player, maybe, coming in next year to add quality talent and depth to this team.   Like some others have said though, if Washington leaves early,  it's going to be more of the same and then some.  That's why people are letting go of the rope so soon.

Thank you. Finally someone with the common sense to see this team as it really is. A young team that is very talented, but is gonna take a lot bumps and bruises before they learn how to win. Good grief, they just learned how to shave, not more than 2/3 years ago.

I'm not saying fire Pel, nor have I ever said that one time. But I am pissed about being 1-6, I do think this team is better than this, and I am really freakin tired of people bringing up Oklahomo and Texass like that means we can tank the rest of the season and be ok. "Just remember this is the same team that beat Oklahoma." Yeah well, this is also the team that lost to Auburn, Miss St., and TN at home!
I'd rather be dead than be a Vol

3kgthog

At least I saw Petrino's teams get better at the things they were doing poorly at the beginning of the season. The basketball team isn't progressing. They still play the same clueless and lazy defense that they did against teams like Missouri St. They don't block out. We win tonight if we had anyone that could keep a UT Vol from tipping the ball back in.

Well said Pistola. Whether or not Pel is over is head coaching a major basketball program remains to be seen. But to fire a coach in less than two years, we couldn't get a decent replacement to even sniff in our direction.

You miss the Alabama/Texas/Florida games?  That was a series of backwards steps.   The question will be how we finish in comparison.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Hogbody

I agree with Tomas.

And if we were to get rid of pel, which we will not, then we would not be able to get a freaking HS coach to come here

Really? Seems like 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1 we still couldn't pound out a yard. Did our FG kicking really get any better? Nope. Not really. Defensive line wasn't great either. Lots of things to point out.

Look, I wish we'd have won tonight. But face it. We lost. We KNEW we were gonna lose this year replacing so many weapons. Hang with this team and I think they will prove the patience will pay off.

Well..SEC football is a BIT better than SEC basketball! In case you aren't aware we're about to get really good in football..fantastic recruiting class!

This is Pel's second year and no help is coming. We were once prime time and we have every right to expect nothing but great expectations!!

dougieritch

No reason to fire Pel, however I did disagree with him staying in that zone late in the 2nd half when Tenn figured out how to score against it.

As I posted before, Arkansas is too young, too inexperienced, and has little depth, not to mention we only have two guys that can create their own shot (Washington & Fortson).  This is not a formula for success.  Pel needs time to bring in more of his players and build depth.
But I'm really wondering what the deal is with Moore and Clark, this team needs them and they are no where to be found.

Forget the damn OU and Texas wins.  Do we look any better than we did against Mississippi St?  NO.  It's the same stuff game after game.  Sometimes we lose by 15+, sometimes we lose by 9, or 2...but it's the same crap occurring every game.  I would be okay with looking towards the future if there was anything to look forward to.

I agree with Pistola. Last year we zero players to expect hang our hat on this year. I'd say Washington improved and Welsch too for that matter. There will be improvement again next year. The next big star may already be there or he may be playing this Friday night. I'm willing to cheer this year and wait to see what happens next year without completely giving up...of course I actually played the game and coached the game and I understand building success. Not a single SEC team appears in the latest AP Basketball Poll.  The conference is as weak as it has ever been, and we are unable to hold serve on our own court against this subpar competition.

Every coach should get 4 years to build a program regardless of the results.  There is no reason Pelphrey should get less time than Heath did.  That being said, Pelphrey's teams performances absolutely deserve to be criticized.  I'm not very impressed with Pelphrey so far and I don't think he'll get the job done in 4 years.

The football team is going to make us happier sooner than the basketball team. Book it.

Considering that basketball teams should be able to be built more quickly, I find this very interesting. Not to mention, proportionally, our basketball program should have more advantages than our football team.

So what's the deal?

Like I said, Arkansas football will make us more happy sooner than the basketball team.

Stop.  You are making too much sense.
So let me get this straight.  You're giving up on recruiting, the team, and every season until Pel is gone.  The same thing can be said about basketball as we did in football.  Young and inexperienced.  Idc how down the SEC is, there are some flat out athletes in this league, and with the exception of Ole Piss every team we have played have good battle tested players in this league.  Give this team some time.  Give this team support.  They need it the most now.
