Last 4 in - Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Arkansas, Wake Forest

jbcarol, the thing the Hogs are up against to me, is finishing in 4th.  So little room for error.  Doubtful that Bama gets to 20 wins but has a tad easier row these last 6 games.  Auburn is the only other team besides Arkansas that has a shot to get 20 wins prior to SECT.  I think Arkansas has to match Bama win wise these last 6.

Alabama win against South Carolina was big time for them. They were able to split against South Carolina and Kentucky. Their next two games are at Missouri and LSU at home.

Where it stands prior to this week's games

Quote from: jbcarol on February 11, 2017, 11:01:14 pm
IF THE TOURNAMENT BEGAN TODAY

South Carolina, Florida and Kentucky are tied for first place. They would each be named regular-season champion but the No. 1 seed would go to a tiebreaker. Each is 1-1 against the other, so the tiebreaker would go to record against the No. 4 seed (Arkansas).

First round

March 8

Game 1 – (12) Texas A&M vs. (13) Missouri

Game 2 – (11) Auburn vs. (14) LSU

Second round

March 9

Game 3 – (Eight) Georgia vs. (9) Vanderbilt

Game 4 – (5) Alabama vs. Game 1 winner

Game 5 – (7) Ole Miss vs. (10) Mississippi State

Game 6 – (6) Tennessee vs. Game 2 winner

Third round

March 10

Game 7 – (1) Florida vs. Game 3 winner

Game 8 – (4) Arkansas vs. Game 4 winner

Game 9 – (2) Kentucky vs. Game 5 winner

Game 10 – (3) South Carolina vs. Game 6 winner

IMO, the OM games is actually the more important of the two games this week.
Hoping the Hogs basketball fortunes change for the better this season.

evenryone has baked in a Hog loss to SC, so a win there would be huge, but a loss is not catastrophic. Another loss at home though, yea, pretty bad.

Agree the OM game will be critical, as they all are right now, and they always give us fits... we need a minimum of 4 and I don't see a gimme left on the schedule...

If, as expected, the Hogs lose on the road tonight to SC, do they drop out?

You realize making the play-in game and losing is not making it into the field of 64. Going to a play in game and losing should still be grounds for termination.

I think he should be terminated barring a sweet 16, just like they did to Heath, but that is not likely the reality.

As for now thought, if they are currently a 10 or 11 seed, meaning one of the last at large teams, does a loss to SC put them on the outside looking in, with really the only chance to get back to be going 5-0 with a win at FLA ( or of course winning the sect ).

I think Arkansas must win four of their final six regular season games, plus at least one victory in the SEC Tournament to get into the Big Dance. That would get them to a 23-10 record. Those horrible losses to Mizzou and Vandy severely hurt the Hogs, and you could throw in the loss at home to Miss St too. Instead of 18-7, 7-5, Arkansas should be 21-4,10-2, and they would be all but guaranteed a spot in the NCAA's...not to mention would be right in the thick of the SEC championship race! But that is what always seems to happen over the last 15 years...they lose games they should have won, and usually it is to inferior teams.  :-\
Instead of a chance to maybe finish 25-6 or better, they'll be lucky to get to 22 wins and make the Dance.

Prediction: I see losses at SC and at Florida, a loss at home to Ole Miss ... the Rebs have had Arkansas' number for over a decade now, and quite frankly I am getting sick of hearing about how Andy Kennedy loves playing at BWA! >:( ..., and the Hogs finish 21-10. Even with a win in the SEC Tourny, it won't be enough to get into the NCAA's, and they are relegated to the NIT.
Hope I'm wrong, and they win out and make the Dance, but I don't see it.
Mike Anderson had better make the NCAA Tourny next season, or it had better be curtains on this experiment!

How are the Vols not one of four in and they just lost at home to Georgia and on the road at Kentucky. No way the Vols should be ahead of the Hogs.

yocdaddy

I don't care what the experts say right now, all that matters is the end of the season.  If they get run out of the gym again by anyone, they have zero chance of getting into the dance.  Ok St. on the road, Vandy at home, and another blow out loss would be the death blow.

I wish we were a lock but as long as we win the games we should win, we are in.  Just take care of business. We did Saturday, we will see what tonight holds.

cityhog

Here's the deal. With every year, save one, of MA's tenure there has been a stretch of WTH games that we had no business losing. One year, ok, two years that happens, mmm, what's going on? 5 out of 6 years? It's a pattern. It's what we can expect from now on.

We out of the last 4 teams in but still an 11 seed which means we still have some work to do. 4-1 the rest of the way and 1 in the SECt should be a bid. A win against Florida would probably seal it as well. Can't fall to a team like Ole Miss or A&M @ home. Last night's win really helped our case but we still have to finish strong!

Really don't get the logic that we only moved up one spot on his S-curve after a Top 25 road win. Either he had us too high last time, or too low this time.

Arkansas would be a dangerous 10 or 11 seed in the tourney. I would much rather stay in that range than end up a 8 or 9.

Bracket updated on: Fri Feb 17 07:45:57 2017

11 Arkansas (1st of last 4 in)

USC-East seems intent on playing the middle of the SEC into the bracket

QuoteGamecocks have lost consecutive home games to Alabama Crimson Tide and Arkansas Razorbacks...

The wins for the Tide and Hogs have breathed new life into otherwise pedestrian tournament profiles.  Arkansas is actually in the bracket as of now.  Alabama can consider itself on the bubble.  Meanwhile, South Carolina Gamecocks is sliding down the bracket [from a 6 seed to an 8 seed in Jerry Palm's 2/17 projection].

QuoteArkansas (19-7, 8-5)

ESPN: No. 11, Midwest (last four byes)
CBS: No. 11, East (last four in)
NBC: No. 10, East (last four byes)
    USA Today: No. 10, South
    SEC Country: On the bubble

RPI: 45, KenPom: 53, Strength of schedule: 87

A win at South Carolina was exactly what the Hogs needed to revive their tourney chances, and right now, they're hovering just on the right side of the cut-off line. Arkansas is now 8-5 against top-100 RPI teams, and can further bolster its resume when it travels to The Swamp on March 1...

39 Brackets updated since our win on Wednesday.

2 - 8 seed
8 - 9 seed
14 - 10 seed
12 - 11 seed
1 - 12 seed

38 Seton Hall
37 Wichita State

If we beat Ole Miss this weekend we will probably be on every single bracket, seeing as we are only off on one right now. Still far from being a lock, but glad to see we have a bit more of a buffer between us and the bubble line.

Hogz87

This may go without saying, but I'd much rather be a 10-seed than an 8-seed or 9-seed.  I mean it'd somewhat depend on who the 2-seed in our bracket is.  I mean, I'd rather be an 8 or 9 with Gonzaga as our 1-seed than being a 10-seed with UNC as our 2-seed.

Give me UNC as a match up over this Gonzaga team, any day.   Woof, that'd be a terrible draw.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Jerry Palm has us as an #11 seed, the only one out of the 43 brackets that came out today. Dude has something against us. If he were projecting out I could see that, but as of now most have us as a 9/10 seed. The gap from a 9 seed to an 8 seed is still pretty steep, we'll need to finish 3-1 and have some help if we want an 8. We may need to beat FLorida to jump into 7 seed talks.

I think we'd have to win out, meaning beating Florida in Gainesville, and get at least one win the SEC Tourney to be a 7. I'd rather win out or somehow get seeded as a 10 or 11. 8/9 seed will suck.

I doubt that gets them a 7. Going to be easier to fall to a 10 than climb to a 7.

one thing people need to understand is that the number you are seeded may not necessarily be where you are ranked. Teams can be moved up or down seeds in order to avoid conference matches too early. Can't play before the sweet 16. The ACC will put in up to 10 teams and that means there will be some shifting around as mentioned above. So we could easily flex up or down and end up better or worse than rankings would suggest.

I really just want in the NCAA Tournament. Next year I believe will be our year to make a run. Barford and Macon will be improved. I believe we will see good development from our PFs. Gafford, Garland, and Hall will provide skill and size. CJ Jones will backup Macon as our 2nd sharpshooter.

We just need to get in the tournament to get the momentum going.
