Tommy Pham now has 2 hits and 3 RBI after that bomb!

Half the season over. Magic #75. Still only team in the majors with less than 30 losses. Should be getting Mattie H. back soon.

Isn't it 76?

I admit that I'm horrible at math and often screw these things up.

It's (163) - (wins =53) - (pirates losses = 34) = 76. Right?

Maybe you were using 162 as the starting point? Which will be the magic number assuming we win the regular season series with Pittsburgh.
WPS

Rosie, Molina, and Wacha join Holliday and Peralta on the NL All Star Roster.

Car Mart is also in the running for the last spot.
WPS

pigture perfect

Yeah 162 and 75 for a share of the division.

Lester had a no no going into the 7th which Peralta just broke up.

The Cardinals then got Peralta and Heyward into scoring position.

The good guys have now taken a 2-0 lead on a one out sac fly from Yadi and a base hit RBI from Wong.

2-0 cards!
WPS

popcornhog

Rain Delay.

2-0 Cards at the end of the top 8th.

I'm fine with pulling a Royals and calling it a day.

Haha. My girlfriend said the same thing.

They're about to resume the game.

I missed it. How did we we score our last 4?

I missed it. How did we we score our last 4?

Mark Reynolds scored Peralta on a bases loaded no outs sac fly to make it 3-0; then the runners advanced on a wild pitch I believe.

Grichuk then had a 2 RBI double.

The final run was scored on a Pete Bourjos base hit. Pretty sure it was Grichuk from 2nd base.

Mitch Harris came in rather than Rosie due to the 6 run lead and finished them off.

Cool. Thanks popcorn.

You got it.

Today, and the second half of the season for that matter, will be interesting.

Cooney/Lyons are starting the double header. Can those two serve as long term starters? If Jaime can't stay healthy, Mo may have to make a move for another starter. That said, Jaime's latest injury is completely unrelated to past health issues, so maybe it's no big deal.

In order to keep the hold on first place, there's also the question of adding a consistent bat with some pop. Such a move before the deadline would almost certainly be for a 1st baseman, no?
WPS

popcornhog

I haven't gotten to watch much, but the Cubs were leading 3-0 in the top of the 7th before Bourjos knocked a 2 out RBI double to the left field corner to score Peralta from first.

WPS

popcornhog

Well . . . It's now 3-2 as Boujos scores from 2nd on Scruggs RBI base hit.
WPS

popcornhog

Cruz just barely got one down to left center.

Runners on 1st and 2nd now with two outs in the top of the 7th for Matt Carpenter.
WPS

popcornhog

Carpenter is now playing 2nd as Wong apparently had a head contusion of some sort. Not sure what happened, I wasn't watching earlier.

WPS

popcornhog

Not sure what happened, but the Cubs are now up 6-2 in the bottom of the 8th against Socolovich with runners at first and second and nobody out.

The lefty specialist got lit up by Rizzo.

Let's use this term loosely.

I wasn't able to watch the last half hour or so.

I presume you're referring to the Choat-ster?

Hopefully Wong is ok, that's my biggest concern. Hoping it wasn't a concussion.
WPS

popcornhog

Tonight Carp's starting at 2nd while Wong is evaluated.
WPS

If Carps at 2nd, dare I say it "who's on 3rd". I don't know. Who's on 1st.

1B Scruggs
2B Carp
3B Reynolds

That was the pregame lineup anyhow.

Just checked the score:
WPS

popcornhog

Heyward and Reynolds had a pair of RBI base hits to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th.

Sounds like Cooney has pitched 5 great innings thus far.

All things considered, I'd be thrilled with a split today.
WPS

popcornhog

Kozma got things going in the 7th with a one out base hit, followed by a walk of Pham. But then Carpenter flies out to the track and Perslta grounded out to end the inning.

2-1 cards

Btw, after the double switch, Kozma is now at 2nd and Carp has moved to 3rd and Reynolds to 1st.
WPS

popcornhog

With 1 out, the Cubs have tied it in the bottom of the 7th on a questionable hit down the 3rd base line which looked to maybe be a foul ball.

Maness was tossed for arguing. Matheny has lost it.
WPS

popcornhog

Siegrest had the easy out at home, but elected to throw to second for the double play and the Cubs are up 3-2 on the error after the ball flies into the outfield.
WPS

popcornhog

The bad call combined with an error and a sac fly from Rizzo put the Cubs up 4-2 going into the 8th.

5-2 Cubs headed to 9th.
WPS

popcornhog

Peralta grounded out to end the game after the Cards had led off the 9th with base hits from Grichuk and Bourjos (who is hitting well lately). Then Kozma flied out to deep right before Cruz's RBI single cut the lead to 2.

Then Jason Motte got Carp and Jhonny to end it.

Wacha to start tomorrow.
WPS

I really think it is BS that balls down the line on the infield can't be reviewed. That call swung the momentum, but Siegrist not going home to get the go ahead run was flat out dumb, and likely cost us the game.

Rocky&Boarwinkle

I want to know what Maness said.  ;D

The Boar War

Absolutely ridiculous strike zone tonight.

popcornhog

So after Pham got K'd up to lead off the 9th, I put on my rally cap and my Taveras jersey.

Two batters later, Peralta hit a two run bomb to take the lead.

Rosie is working with a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 9th.
WPS

WPS

popcornhog

After getting ahead and then working the count full, 1 up/1 down.
WPS

popcornhog

Kozma bobbles and then makes a nice throw to get the out at 1st.

2 up/2 down
WPS

popcornhog

Russell with a two out double.

Huge Series against the Pirates starts tomorrow.

Pittsburgh has pulled within 4 1/2 games and they're 8-2 in the last 10 while we are 4-6 in the last 10.

Holliday will be back in the next few days and Wong should be back tomorrow or Friday.

I get no joy when another known cheater hits a bomb.

I'm pumped over that win. We needed that one.

Bizarre remark. Enjoy the win and be glad that his PED violations came at a time when he was with another club. It is a black eye on the sport, but it is what it is and appears to have been cleaned up.

Bizarre? He's a cheater just like ARod even if he plays for STL.
