The cost of a scholarship is for bookkeeping purposes. The school isn't hiring professors and building classrooms for the relative handful of scholarship athletes. They aren't starting new degree tracts. If the average class size is 25 students then adding 500 athletes would increase the class size less than 1/2 student.

The ancillary costs are not even much for a $100 million a year enterprise like UA athletics. The schools have tried everything they know to keep from paying the people who actually perform the service that makes that $100 million

They're amateurs. We can't pay them

They're getting a free education.

Okay, we'll let them have opportunities to make money from their name and likeness (now that the courts have made us)

Okay we'll have collectives where the fans can pay the players (since the court won't stop others from doing it)

It's all coming to an end. Pay for play is just about here.

Miss taught us a lesson last season about building a roster and making it work as a team..are not the same thing

The portal era means this will happen often

If a team has 4 or 5 returning starters in today's world, they might win a a lot

Cal is going to find out fast if he still has the fire to make a machine out of the many parts

On another note....  Water is wet

Would be a horrible basketball decision for her.

Predicting the win total ceiling, floor for Texas A&M in 2024

by: Thomas Goldkamp

QuoteToday it's time to take a look at Texas A&M.

They both agreed the ceiling for Texas A&M is quite high, though the floor is low enough that there's a wide range of possible outcomes:

CEILING: 10 wins, College Football Playoff appearance
Texas A&M's ceiling is almost certainly a product of some serious recruiting in the last few years. The Aggies aren't hurting for talent, even if it hasn't necessarily been developed at the college level just yet.

FLOOR: 5-7 regular season
If things don't go well for the Aggies this fall, there's probably one area of the team that will have come up a little short.

But just in general the roster may not be as good as many in College Station are hoping. That was the consensus Bellaire got in speaking to industry colleagues.

I just wonder how long the golden goose is going to keep laying eggs.  Salaries, revenue, etc. keep increasing as eyes keep disappearing.  The NC championship game drew less than 15 million people this season, which is typical now. Our NC game against Duke drew 33 million.  I get concentration of viewers in a dispersed environment, but at some point gravity takes over.
