Whether women's sports should be 100% equal in funding and all other things is about the same as making the comment that "Coaches make millions dollars and chemistry professors get very little".  The counter to that is "Well, when the chem professor can sell 100,000 tickets to his weekly lecture, then he can complain".  And while that may speak a lot to our mutual interest in less-than-important things, it is actually a logical conclusion at this time.

It is the same with women's sports.  Chemistry class and women's sports both fill a niche, fulfill a need, and are attended by many, and probably always will be.  But the Big Dog that eats what he wants in today's world is men's sports.

Fairness is not the same as equality.  Fairness is a worthy goal.  But there's nothing fair about men getting 90% of the quantity of baseball/softball scholarships that women's softball gets, and there's obviously nothing equal about it.  Further, there's nothing equal about baseball or softball not getting the amount of scholarships required to fill a roster.

One difference in college baseball is the MLB Minor League system.  That is the direct competition to college baseball.

It appears that this may change for the better before long.....hopefully so.

Quote from: hogwood on April 30, 2024, 08:17:38 pmIt's a different sport. With players like Aidoo making life changing money in college, there is no reason for them to risk not getting drafted and then hoping to make $50k in the G League.
Who would have believed this is what College Basketball has evolved into 10 years ago.

Quote from: bennyl08 on Today at 01:03:46 amJust because a something isn't bread doesn't mean it's cheese.

Is NIL functioning as a pseudo salary in players in lieu of actual employment? Sure. But just because it isn't being used as intended doesn't mean that a salary cap can be implemented.

However, convert the students into employees instead and all these problems go away.
That's what I'm hoping, but I don't know if that will be the case, or not, or what it will take to get there.

Quote from: Deep Shoat on May 02, 2024, 07:59:51 pmAlternatively, can you imagine how stupid this place will be if he wins 8+ and gets an extension?

And especially if his buyout were increased to 50 mil.

Don't want anyone taking our Sammy!!

Quote from: MemphisBossHog on Yesterday at 07:53:04 pmI wanted to see if there is any info on DJWagner.  Do we still think he will come to Fayetteville for a visit? He went to visit Muss first and his girlfriend, JuJu Watkins plays for the Women of Troy basketball team out there.

I haven't read too much about him since he went out to Cali.

Any new info?

Supposedly Wagner was on campus last week and is a silent commit. I'm not sure why it hasn't been made public, but this seems to be Calipari's MO on the hill - at least this offseason.

I also wonder if this will be more of the new normal across NCAAB due to NIL bidding wars. With players intentionally being vague as they try to reel in the best offer, and coaches working in silence behind the scenes as they try to land a player without triggering said bidding war.

The days of players releasing "Top 5 Schools" posts may be over.

Quote from: GrizzlyRider07 on Yesterday at 11:22:49 pmHad we made contact with him? Has anything been said about that?

He's been contacted. Not much discussion about him other than him being a good prospect. Haven't heard Kevin mention him much if at all on his YouTube lives - but I haven't listened to the last one yet.

Quote from: Philip Seaton on Today at 07:35:15 amYou do realize that coaches have zero to do with NBA paperwork right? Now, he may have issue with his playing time last season or the way he was used, but the draft process is totally on the player.

That would be a huge story if it were true lol. The coaches would be tarred and feathered by national media quicker than a hiccup.

QuoteI didn't think we were in the conversation still but I wouldn't be sad to see this get. Of course, right now I feel like it's been weeks since anything has happened... even though realistically I know it's just been days.

Details of players visiting hasn't been leaked out or slow to leak out. Nothing was confirmed on Nelly being here until after. So don't know.

Haven't been following their offseason too closely but they've been in the running for some really high level guys. McCassland can coach
