No expansion teams this year.

Either

Cards vs. Yanks   1926,1928,1942,1943,1964

Cards vs. Tigers   1934,1968,2006

Giants vs. Yanks  1921,1922,1923,1936,1937,1951,1962,

Giants vs. Tigers  unbelieveably as never happened

And a thought to ponder.  The tigers have been to 10 WS and won 4 times. 2 of those losses were to the Chicago Cubs.   :D  No other major league team has that distinction.

Anyone else surprised that the Tigers and Giants have never met before in the Fall Classic?  They both have been members of the opposite league since the very beginning over a 108 year history.  Seems like they would've met up at least one time before.

We can only hope they get the opportunity this year.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I'm fine with a classic Cardinals vs. Tigers matchup.   ;D

Not really. I'm sure there are a lot of teams that haven't met in a WS before.

All 4 teams involved were members of the leagues from 1903 on.  Cards and Giants have both been there 18 times each.  The Yankees 40 times.  The Tigers have been in 10 as well.  The odds are much more in favor of the Giants and Tigers having met at least once than for most of MLB these days.  The Giants and Yankees had met in six series before the Mets, Rangers, Royals or Padres even existed.  Not to mention all of the later expansions more recently.

Erie's wish was granted.

Tigers vs. Giants for the first time ever in a World Series.
