Will Nutt ever be forgiven?

Do you think 15 years down the road, or whatever, Nutt will be forgiven at all? I ask this because it seems lots of people are now casting Nolan in a rosey light even though just about everyone (at least as high of a percentage that hate Nutt) disliked him when he departed.

It will be interesting to come back in 15 or 20 years and see if anyone's minds have changed. I, for one, don't see myself ever forgiving him for the damage he has caused to us, but I know people's tendency over time is to mellow.

Nolan = Championship

Nutt = Independence Bowl

A lot of people said the same thing about Nolan and his attack on the school and now everyone wants to honor him.  I see that happening with Nutt.  May take longer but it will happen.  I'm not ready for it now but I can see myself being ready for it two coaches down the line.

Are you ready for the coach we have right now?

Seebs

No, he will not be forgiven.

Nolan's situation improved in my own personal eyes when it appeared that his claims of a ol' boys network that he couldn't crack existed on The Hill. Perhaps a hint of racism.

Nolan was right, but his methods sucked.

Nutt is a horrible person and a mediocre coach. What he put a majority of Hog Fans through for the past few years is unforgivable.

To add a "sig line" or "signature line": Go to your "profile" then go to "modify profile" then scroll down to where it says "Signature" and type in what you want it to say and then click on "change profile". That's it, you're done. Your sig line will only show up on your first post on each page.

NO, NEVER!

Makes me mad all over again after reading the Arkansas Pro Day report and to think of all we have that are draft eligible this year and yet their former sorry a$$ coach couldn't even coach them to a big title game!  What a waste!

Con el Cerdos

It is in the human realm of things to be forgiving, an maybe someday Razorback masses will/could welcome Nutt back, but not me.

The things Nutt did to players, the team, and fans he did knowingly, IMO, and they are in a completely different category than what Nolan did.

I also think you have to look at the culpability of both White and Broyles in each case.

I did not like numerous things Nolan did and said but I also did not like the things revealed about Broyles and White in the trial.  Even with B&W's underhandedness Nolan didn't go after his own players like Nutt did.  B&W were the ringleaders of Nutt's support group, which, IMO, allowed Nutt a free-hand to do his dirty work.

So, said all that to say this, Nutt can stay in Mississippi or whereever, forever.  I will never, ever welcome Nutt back to Arkansas or the University.

Sticks and Stones (Nutt) may break my bones but Words (Nolan) will never hurt me.

Nolan said some frustrating things in response to being treated like crap by Broyles. He made the comments (which were unquestionably foolish) after a decade and a half of greatness. He won a national championship, led us to three final fours, two championship games, and numerous conference, division, and conference tournament championships. Oh, and he won the SEC outright, something Nutt has NEVER done.

The comparison between Nutt and Nolan is unfair, IMO, because of the HUGE discrepency in their bodies of work as head coach. I would also argue that Nutt's off the field actions were WAY worse than anything Nolan could ever dream of doing.

For my money, the answer is NO. Nutt will never be well received inside our great state.

I'm certain if we can allll forget what the Texas Longhorns meant after 10-15 years then surely HDN hostility will be extinct by 2020.

bc16

Nutt and Nolan are two completely different  situations.
One tried to "right a wrong," although his methods were somewhat questionable.  The other perpetrated a wrong and did everything in his power to cover it up.
He will be forgiven, if he ever chooses to take responsibility.  He will not.

H&D

Nolan is being forgiven because we all know the truth now.........

Nutt will never be forgiven because we all know the truth now............

Not by me.

Nolan on the other hand I never had a problem with. I thought the way he was fired was crap. He was an outspoken man and everyone was ok with that while he was winning, but a few bad years and all of the sudden it was a big deal. Nolan has more integrity and class in his little finger that Nutt has in his whole worthless body

HogBaptist

the real question...

will he ever be forgotten on hogville? yep, getting tired of seeing Nutt in the subject line in MMQB.

The difference with Nutt from other coaches is he went to a conference & divisional opponent.  If he would have gone to Baylor or somewhere else outside of the SEC then maybe time would allow some to revise history in their minds and forgive.  But we will be reminded of him now year round as he tries to take Arkansas in state recruits and ends up being our on field competiton.
The thing is, if he has any sort of success, you will have some people pointing to that as what we lost, why we shouldn't have gotten rid of him, etc. (especially if he beats us regularly) Admittedly, this is more of jealousy, but it could supplant the anger of some.

What is there to forgive?  He was a loser coach who represented the state of arkansas poorly.  That is his legacy.  I don't hold a grudge, I'm just glad he is gone.

Nolan was a winning coach who was treated poorly by the UofA, a completely different senario.

Out of the 45 threads currently displayed on the front page, only 3 have Nutt in the subject line. I think you could avoid them without too many problems.

The only parts I can never forgive him for are the running off of Mitch and Gus.   The rest could be forgiven, had those two been kept.

I think the trickle down effect is that the Nutt name was once admired statewide, now it's a curse to Dickey, Danny, etc....

hogus maximus

The Chicken-Nutts hatchet job on Gus and Mitch cost us a shot at the national championship two years straight. I will never offer any forgivness to him or that classless broad he married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! never!!!! WPS!!!

Don't ever compare Nolan to Nutt.

To Nolan's credit he apologized to the fans.

I don't see Nutt ever doing this.  I could give two $hits if Nutt is ever forgiven.

I'm just ready for him to be forgotten.

I don't view Nolan through rose colored glasses but perspective of the actual state of affairs of the BAC has made the things he did and said much more palatable, although not totally acceptable.  I was angry with Nolan back then, but I was ALWAYS appreciative of the job he had done.  When he left, I felt he had stayed on the job about two years too long and should have retired with respect.  Nolan, no matter what you want to think of him, is an honorable - if flawed - man.  I don't believe that any amount of time will make me believe in Nutt again because I have seen how petty and dishonorable he could be.  I am absolutely positive that a time will come that I don't have strong emotions about him because I don't want to carry that emotional baggage through life, but I will never hold him in the esteem that I hold Nolan.  The answer to your question for me is no.

I just don't see it, the only person Nolan left hang out to dry was himself with his outbursts, the story with HDN's departure reminded me more of something I would see on an episode of Law & Order, cold and calculated and intended to be hurtful and devisive.

Some of you need to get a life. sorry but my life doesn't revolve around Nutt. i couldn't care less about him. i have nothing to forgive him for. he is just a football coach nothing more. I do not understand why some of you are filled with so much hatred. i was on the fire Nutt bandwagon also but now that he is gone i just have one thing to say. LET IT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is gone that is what we wanted. Just stop talking about him. i mean lord it seems like some of you people are obsessed with him. you can't Get over it. lets just wipe him out of our lives.

More telling than anything Nutt does from here out, will be what Arkansas does from here out;  if Arkansas falls back to it's Pre-Nutt status in the SEC, then there will be a great mollification of the masses who might begrudgingly respect what Nutt managed to do at Arkansas.   Now, if Arkansas stays at the same level, then the focus of hatred will move on to the current coach, the coach thereafter, etc.,  and Nutt will fade from memory as one of a series of people 'responsible' for Arkansas' status;  if Arkansas sees a significant improvement, then he'll never be forgiven.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."
