Let them go ahead and buy their way out of it. They already pussed out of the baseball series and jumped ship for our return game to BWA for THIS season. Both times citing scheduling conflicts even though both series were finalized at least a couple of years in advance.

With all due respect, a bigger point is missed.  Even if Barnes was "laughing out loud" and joking to a Razorback Club luncheon, he just "screwed the pooch".  His comments are moronic because such remarks -- BY EITHER SIDE IN A RIVALRY -- could serve no purpose but to guarantee problems during a visit.  He just escalated minor booing to a potentially bad situation.  And we know the only side that will get trashed by the press/sports press will be Arkansas fans. They are likely writing their articles now.

Arkansas treatment 18 years ago in Austin, quoted from the article, was dismissed by Texas as unfortunate.  I suggest the UA President say the same thing later this week:

University of Texas President Robert Berdahl described the Razorbacks' treatment here as "unfortunate," but ascribed it to the "historic rivalry" between the two former SWC neighbors.

"Besides," Berdahl noted dryly, "it doesn't appear to me that Arkansas exactly went into a slump because of it."

Did Barnes make ill-advised, joking remarks or use calculated rhetoric?  We don't know what his motives were.  But we can likely guess the results.
