I was just curious as to where our fans have been this year. The crowds have not only been small but dead as well. I know we haven't played that  many great teams but I still expected a much better atmosphere especially b/c of the excitement for coach Pelphrey...thoughts anyone??

hillhog

Been there every game, be there tomorrow night

That's good to hear hillhog. I am a student and I have been VERY dissapointed with the turnouts this year. Seems like the crowds were better last year...

I live out of town, but just out of curiosity, how many games have you been to, I've heard so many folks ****in' about the crowd and others defending it.  Just wondering what you base the statement on.

Deleware St. 11,094  Sat.
Missouri  18,621   Wed.
ORU 12,721   Sat.
Missouri State 11,956  Mon.

from hogwired, not terrible or dizzying numbers, the Missouri game encourages me to think that once we get in the heat of SEC play when we need them the crowd will be there.

I've been to everyone of those games actually. The Missouri game had a nice sized crowd but to be honest with you, it wasn't very rowdy. most of the time people were sitting down the majority of the game and that was one hell of a game. It's almost like Arkansas fans aren't as excited about the sport of basketball like they once were. Maybe you are right though, once we get into SEC play with only one loss, BWA will be rocking when Bama comes to town for the opener in Fayetteville.

Just takes time to build momentum. I beleive everyone is excited about BBall since PEL has come in here. If he does well with Stan's players everyone will be even more excited to see what his team year does next year. There always seems to be more excitement about potential that what you have already seen. That said, we do have talent this year and I enjoy watching them every home game. PEL looks like he will get the most out this team.

That's what I'm hoping.  It's eaaarly in the season.  We beat OU and head into SEC play the Hog faithful will be back.  Football is still on too, but that's what I was screaming a while back.  Why are we so worried about football, we are a basketball school...

Good Point. We are a basketball school. That's why we have one of the nicest arenas in the country. The OU game is going to be huge. If we can beat a solid Big 12 team on the road on national television, I believe that will get the fans pumped...at least I hope anyways.

40 MINS OF PEL....I CAN SMELL SEC CHAMPIONSHIP AND A TRIP TO THE ELITE 8 lol

I think the fans would come more if we brought top 25 talent to Fayetteville.
I know a lot of teams don't want to come to Fayetteville, but surely we could schedule more than
3 or 4 decent teams in a season.

It's been 8-9 years since Hog fans have had anything to be excited about.  First we had the NCAA investigation that occasioned the long, slow decline of the Richardson era.  Then we had Richardson's infamous meltdown & embarrassing firing (followed by the lawsuit).  Then we were treated to a five years of playing second fiddle under Heath, consistently losing close games, making early exits from post-season, and in general looking like an effete, winded hollow shell of what we remembered.  Then we topped all that off with a humiliating search for a new coach, a humiliation that no doubt let the casual bandwagon fan to think Pelphrey is some kind of coaching bridesmaid...

When we get a few more wins in, and especially win some SEC games, the fans will slowly wake up to what Pelphrey is doing here.  We'll remember we're hog fans.  Also, it will help greatly now that the farce pyschodrama that was Hog football is now settling down.  Give it a few weeks Petrino to settle in, and the fans who've been obsessed with our very own soap opera will also begin to notice what we've got going on with basketball.

I think the football program has sucked so much energy out of the fanbase that there is nothing left in the tank for the basketball team.

I have seen most of the home games and am very excited about coach Pel and where he is taking the program.  I have been disappointed in the crowds especially with all the positives that coach Pel has brought to the program.

I just don't know if Hog fans will fully embrace basketball again anytime soon and that is a shame because it is a very good time to get in early on the upwards ascent of the Hog basketball program.

SlopThatPig!

I think that too many of the tickets in Bud Walton are now going as corporate comps for out of towners with only a passing interest in the hogs.

I will be there tonight, but don't always take the time to travel up to the hill for easy non-conference games.  Missouri is a good example of what to expect.  The house will be a rocking when the SEC teams come to town if we maintain a high level of play.  Go Hogs!!

HoginHouston

This may sound crazy, but I think the hiring of Petrino will actually have a big impact on the attendance and excitement level at the basketball games. Now that the football drama is OFFICIALLY over, fans will begin to focus on 40 Minutes of Pel. Plus, the recently reunited fan base will be more apt to show excitement about Hog athletics.

Again, I encourage every southern and central Arkansas (for that matter northern Arkansas) fan to get out to Alltell December 22 to watch the Hogs play. These LR games have drawn between 10,000 and 13,000 in the past, which is well below the 18,000 capacity of the arena. We don't want Pel to coach his first game in central Arkansas in front of 5,000 to 7,000 empty seats. Get out Hog fans and welcome Coach Pelphrey to LR...
Go Hogs Go.

bbulhogfan

I think the hiring of Petrino will help too. Finally hog fans can relax b/c the three major sports have three top of the line coaches. Now that basketball is in full swing and the next football game is more than two weeks away, I believe fans will begin to attend more games and hopefully that will start tonight. Any guesses at what the attendance will be?? I'll say 15,500.

This is true, just look at how much more traffic MMQB gets over this board. And we're winning! Conference play is right around the corner!

Tonight will be abysmal, attendance wise, too--- but that will be partially attributable to the campus closing down for Christmas break earlier today-  most of the students will have fled.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Are those numbers inflated?  At the Deleware St. game, it was a Saturday game and the attendance was BAD, the student section was 1/2 empty like the Florida International Football game.  *Maybe it was due to the late night against LSU!*

Nope, those are the "actual numbers" they have tickets sold and actual attendence, the tickets sold was around 15 hundred for all those 11 to 12,000 range games, you can check it at hogwired under schedule and stats.
