Not to be Debbie Downer, but say we lose Saturday.  We most likely drop into a tie with Miss St and Mo.  How do the tie breakers work out?

Procedures

Teams will be seeded No. 1 through No. 14 in the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament bracket based upon the final regular season Conference standings. Teams that finished No. 1 through No. 4 in the final regular season standings shall receive a "bye" on the first and second days of the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament.

Two-Team Tie

The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken:
1.Won-lost results of head-to-head competition between the two teams.
2.Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed (and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary).
3.Coin flip by the Commissioner.

Three-Team Tie (or more)

When three or more teams are tied, the following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken. If two teams re- main tied after a tiebreaker provision, the two-team tiebreaker formula will be used.
1.Best winning percentage of games played among the tied teams (Example: Team A is 3-1, Team B is 2-2 and Team C is 1-3 - Team A would be seeded highest, Team B second-highest and Team C lowest of the three).
2.Best winning percentage of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed (and proceed- ing through the No. 14 seed, if necessary).
3.If two teams remain, coin flip by the Commissioner.
4.If three or more teams remain, draw by the Commissioner.

For the purpose of seeding, if an institution is precluded from participating in the tournament, such institution will automatically be seeded last. However, for the pur- pose of breaking ties, that team will remain where it finished in the regular-season standings BEFORE being seeded last.

RzRbAcK18

So if we win on Saturday, we are a 4 seed right? Auburn and Tennessee are guaranteed 1 and 2 with their 12 wins. With Kentucky and Florida playing each other, one will have 11 wins and one will have 10. Then if we win we also have 11 wins but Kentucky and Florida both beat us. If we lose, who knows.

If we win:

1. Auburn
2. Tennessee
3. Kentucky/Florida
4. Arkansas
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
.... (Obviously Auburn and Tennessee could swap)

jbcarol

Double-bye at the SEC Tournament? A look at all the scenarios

QuoteVolunteers need a win and Tigers loss to lock that up because Auburn won their only head-to-head meeting.

Then there's a three-way tie for third place, where Kentucky, Florida and Arkansas are all 10-7. Mississippi State and Missouri are both 9-8 but cannot surpass the Cats, Gators or Razorbacks in seeding regardless of Saturday results because of various tiebreaker scenarios.

Of the possible outcomes that affect the double-bye — Kentucky (at UF) and Arkansas (at Mizzou) both win, both lose or one wins and one loses —

If Kentucky beats Florida ...

* The Wildcats are the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament, regardless of any other results

If Kentucky loses to Florida ...

* The Gators are the No. 3 seed in the SEC Tournament, regardless of other results.

* The Wildcats are the No. 4 seed in the SEC Tournament if Arkansas also loses at Missouri (6 p.m. ET on ESPN2)

* The Wildcats are the No. 5 seed in the SEC Tournament if Arkansas also wins at Missouri

scottwillrazbackfan1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we lose and MSU win, there will be 4 way tie for 4th place. Kentucky, MSU, Mizzou and the hogs. I believe that will be the order they finish if its a tie.
4. Cats
5. MSU
6. Mizzou
7. Hogs

No lose situation. Win your first game, hope FL has a night of bad shooting. Even a loss against them would still probably leave you with a 7 seed.

As inconsistent as our Hogs play, I don't think I would risk the overall expense for the trip to St. Louis.  Would not be surprised if they lose their first game in the SEC Tournament.

QuoteA potential matchup between sixth-seed Arkansas and third-seed Florida would be between two of the hottest teams entering the tournament. Arkansas has won six of its last eight and Florida has won three in a row. Led by senior guard Chris Chiozza, UF's all-time leader in assists (551), the Gators defeated red-hot Kentucky 80-67 in the final game of the regular season.

SEC issues official statement on why officials didn't stop play while Nick Weatherspoon was injured

At the end of the play, a number of players ended up stepping on the injured Weatherspoon who was eventually taken off the court on a stretcher with a neck injury.

QuoteSEC expresses its sincere concern for Nick Weatherspoon and his family and prays for a full and rapid recovery.

"The play on which Nick Weatherspoon was injured unfolded in a rapid sequence of events that led to the continuation of play after Nick initially fell under the Mississippi State basket," said Mark Whitehead, SEC Coordinator of Officials. "The officials did not recognize Nick was injured until after the transition that led to the completion of the play where, unfortunately, he remained on the floor."

The SEC appreciates the quick response of the sports medicine staff and EMS personnel.
