Kentucky Derby Pts System Vs. Earnings

Any opinion?

Seems that if I was an owner, I would prefer the old way. It would seem like the earnings standings would lead to larger purses with a bidding war between Stakes races.

I don't like earnings bc a horse can jump up and win a grade 1 as a 2 year old and pocket serious $ then flop as a 3 year old when it has no business running in the KD.

With the earnings system, you will also get sprint and turf horses that don't belong in the derby.

The idea that races closer to the derby are worth more points assures that you will get horses that are in or close to top form.
