New Story || Might Marcus Lee transfer? Is the NBA draft still a possibility? His older brother Bryan answers both:

http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/kentucky/2016/04/19/uks-lee-still-undecided-nba-draft-brother-says/83236392

QuoteMarcus Lee isn't transferring from Kentucky.

"There's whispers every year, just because people feel like they know what's better for him," his older brother Bryan told The Courier-Journal on Tuesday. "But as he's shown each year, he's completely loyal to Kentucky. It's kind of baffling that anybody would question that, considering what he's done for the school and the impact he's had on that community.

"It's almost kind of a slap in the face to him that anyone would even question that, considering what he's sacrificed."

Just so there's no confusion, his brother said, there are only two options for Marcus next season: he'll either be a professional basketball player or a senior at Kentucky – because no, he's not intimidated by yet another No. 1-ranked recruiting class coming in – and the former remains a real possibility, despite draft projections.

So Lee will "go through the combine – as long as he gets an invite – and see where he stands and make a decision based on that feedback," his brother said. "The ultimate goal is to get to the NBA, but at the same time he has to make sure he's making a great decision."

While Lee's prospects don't seem great at the moment, it's not completely outlandish to think he might ultimately stay in this year's draft.

"It doesn't take much to be a late second-round pick, especially if you're willing to tell a team, 'Hey, you can just draft me and I'll go to Europe for a few years,' " Draft Express founder Jonathan Givony said. "Teams love that, because they have all these draft picks and they don't actually want to use them, because they don't have enough roster spots available. They're always looking for guys that will agree to be drafted and stashed in Europe for an indefinite amount of time.

"If he were willing to do that, that might change things – but I think that's probably not what he has in his mind right now."

So what is the 6-foot-9 Lee, who started 20 games and averaged 6.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 21.8 minutes per game last season, thinking?

"Just has to be a great situation. I don't think a number matters," brother Bryan said...

One-time Texas A&M commitment Mitchell Robinson is back on the market.

QuoteAnd with him averaging 13.6 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.1 blocks per game in EYBL play, Robinson is going to be quite the catch for the team that can land his services.

"He has great length as a 7-footer with very long arms, he has great hands and he's mobile," said Jerry Meyer, 247Sports director of basketball scouting. "He looked like Randy Moss on one play running down the court, snagging a ball and finishing with his inside hand on a layup. He has great upside."

So much upside that Meyer said Robinson's ranking — he's currently the No. 4 center and No. 33 overall player in the 247Sports Composite — will shoot through the roof.

"You can expect him to be in the 247Sports Top 10 after this weekend," Meyer said.

Since decommitting on April 24, Robinson said he's been hearing more from LSU and North Carolina, with LSU recruiting him the hardest. But he also said there's another school he'd like to hear from.

"I'm hoping to hear from Kentucky," Robinson told Meyer at the Hampton, Va., EYBL session. "I like how they play. I like their game style."

The Chalmette, La., product listed his current height and weight at 7-foot and 217 pounds, and said he's looking at the academics of his potential college choices.

QuoteLEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky guard Isaiah Briscoe has worked out for "four or five" NBA teams and has "a couple more" before making a final decision about whether to stay in this year's draft, his father George told The Courier-Journal on Wednesday.

"I get feedback and it's positive, but that doesn't mean you're a pro," the elder Briscoe said. "He can score, he can play, but then it's interesting because I didn't see that (at Kentucky). It's interesting."

George Briscoe said his son lost confidence at UK – he believes unfair media scrutiny contributed to that – but has regained his swagger in workouts for NBA teams.

"I have to figure out why my son is who he is right now in that NBA setting, but at Kentucky he's not," the father said. "He's getting back to being Isaiah now and I'm enjoying it. He goes into some of these workouts with this guy and that guy who are supposed to be first-round picks and does well."

Even so, Briscoe was not invited to last week's NBA combine and is not projected to be selected in any major mock draft. He has to decide by next Wednesday whether to stay in this draft or return to school.

"He has a couple more workouts and we'll see from there. That's what this process is made for, right?" George Briscoe said. "You have until the 25th to decide, so we're just going through the process and being students of the game..."

Freshman guard Charles Matthews announced his transfer from Kentucky on Wednesday morning.

"Transfer? No," George Briscoe said. "Why would he transfer? Everything is good. I love Kentucky. Nothing has changed. Cal, that's my guy. I have much respect for Coach Cal."

Duke pulls ahead of Kentucky as recruiting rivalry gets chippy

QuoteKentucky and Duke will be back to banging heads again soon -- fighting over Class of 2017 prospects... And it's becoming increasingly clear that the two top-shelf programs led by Hall of Fame coaches are operating at a level above everybody else when it comes to recruiting.

"It's abundantly clear," said Evan Daniels, Scout.com's director of basketball recruiting. "Duke and Kentucky are in a tier of their own when it comes to recruiting right now -- and the results prove that."

Here are the past three years' final recruiting rankings, according to 247 Sports:

    2014: 1. Duke, 2. Kentucky
    2015: 1. Kentucky, 2. Duke
    2016: 1. Duke, 2. Kentucky

Kentucky has signed 12 five-star prospects in its past three classes. Duke has signed 11. And nobody else has signed more than seven in the same span. Consequently, the Wildcats and Blue Devils are ranked first and second in the CBS Sports Top 25 (and one). And they're also the schools with the best odds to win the 2017 national championship, according to Sportsbook.ag. In other words, Duke and Kentucky are competing for the same prospects off the court and the same trophies on the court. So is it any surprise the two staffs are starting to get on each others nerves?

The most recent back-and-forth played out publicly -- and ended hilariously...

QuoteGarrison Brooks resides just minutes away from an SEC school, but the four-star big man isn't a cinch to stay close to home for college.

Auburn was Brooks' first offer, but he said his relationship with other schools is deeper. Georgia stands out. So does UAB and Alabama. Brooks is a top 100 prospect...

His academics are also in check, as he's mentioned Northwestern as one school that stands out.

Brooks, an Auburn High standout, visited Georgetown recently. He's looking forward to a Florida State visit to see where the Seminoles stack up on his interest list.

On Alabama: "I've had a relationship with (assistant) Coach (Antoine) Pettway since my freshman year," Brooks said. "I've grown to like him as a coach. He's very honest with me. I don't think he's ever lied to me. I can always appreciate that from him."

QuoteWalsh and Roberson, 2005

2005 draft was not kind to the Florida Gators. Walsh and Roberson both declared for the draft after their junior seasons, but neither was taken. Walsh, a 6-6 small forward, was expecting to hear his name called in the first round, after averaging 14.6 points and shooting 42.6 percent from 3-point range in his junior season. Roberson, a point guard, averaged 18.7 points that season and was hoping to be a second-round pick. Both eventually made an NBA roster; Roberson played 65 games over parts of three seasons, for four teams, while Walsh played two games with the Heat in the 2005-06 season.

NBA Draft decisions have been finalized.

What about some of the other highly touted players from the class of 2015?

QuoteAntonio Blakeney, Louisiana State
He was the Tigers' third-leading scorer with 12.6 points per game and shot 33.5 percent from three-point range. LSU did not make the NCAA Tournament.

Jaylen Brown, Cal Bears
Brown had four points, seven turnovers and fouled out in 17 minutes in Cal's first-round loss to 13-seeded Hawaii in the NCAA Tournament. Brown kept his name in the NBA Draft and is projected as the No. 4 overall pick by DraftExpress.com.

Thomas Bryant, Indiana
Bryant was a key player in Indiana's second-round victory over Kentucky, going for 19 points and five rebounds. That was his best statistical game of the tournament (maybe ever), and IU lost in the next round to North Carolina.

Cheick Diallo, Kansas
Diallo played in just one of Kansas' four tournament games, going for nine points and four rebounds in seven minutes of the Jayhawks' first-round rout of Austin Peay.

[The Skal of the Midwest] kept his name in the draft and is projected as the No. 25 overall pick by DraftExpress.com.

Brandon Ingram, Duke
Ingram scored at least 20 points in each of Duke's three tournament games. The Blue Devils lost to Oregon in the Sweet 16.

What's next?: Ingram is projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft by DraftExpress.com and seems certain to fall no lower than No. 2 in the draft.

Luke Kennard, Duke
Billed as a sharp-shooting guard, he made just 32.0 percent of his three-point attempts as a freshman.

Postseason: Kennard averaged 10.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for the Blue Devils, making five of his 15 three-point attempts over three games.

Malik Newman, Mississippi State
Newman struggled mightily for the Bulldogs, averaging 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He shot 39.8 percent from the floor and 38.2 percent from three-point range. State did not make the NCAA Tournament.

He's been the subject of transfer rumors. It's highly unlikely that Mississippi State would allow him to transfer within the conference...

Ivan Rabb, Cal Bears
Rabb had 13 points and 12 rebounds in Cal's first-round loss to Hawaii. Rabb announced that he will return to Cal for his sophomore season.

Caleb Swanigan, Purdue
Swanigan averaged 10.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the Boilermakers, though he shot just 46.1 percent from the floor.

Swanigan had six points and 10 rebounds in Purdue's first-round, two-OT loss to Arkansas-Little Rock in the NCAA Tournament.

Stephen Zimmerman, UNLV
He averaged 10.5 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 26.2 minutes per game for the Rebels, who fired head coach Dave Rice in the middle of the season.

UNLV did not make the NCAA Tournament.

Zimmerman kept his name in the NBA Draft

Kentucky freshmen eligible for the draft:
Briscoe announced Wednesday that he's returning to the Wildcats for a second year, but the program will lose five-star freshmen Skal Labissiere and Jamal Murray, who announced their intentions to go to the NBA weeks ago.

Here's how Paul Biancardi, one of ESPN's recruiting gurus, saw Lee's commitment to Kentucky's Cal (John Calipari) rather than California's Cal three years ago:

Quote"One more piece to an awfully impressive puzzle ... when ESPN 100 senior power forward Marcus Lee picked Kentucky over California."

Lee, whom Biancardi ranked No. 28 in the Class of 2013, was UK's fourth top 30 recruit. Others were Andrew Harrison (No. 2), Aaron Harrison (No. 4) and James Young (No. 5).

For what it's worth, none has made a significant mark in the NBA.

UF basketball: The new Keith Stone - via @Gator_sports http://www.gatorsports.com/article/20160601/articles/160609977 ...

QuoteMike White said true freshman forward Keith Stone has used his redshirt year to reshape his body and put himself in a position to help the Gators next season.

"Keith, as most freshmen are, was a little bit resistant to it at first. It's hard being in the weight room and being driven like he was driven on a daily basis, and not having a chance to play in front of the Rowdies.

"But Keith he grew up a lot in this offseason. He really took advantage, as much as any redshirt I've really been around."

White said Stone's tireless work ethic has helped him gain considerable weight and strength, putting him in a position to compete in the SEC.

Marcus Lee had a promise of a Guaranteed NBA Contract according to Jeff Goodman...(really?): http://kentuckysportsradio.com/basketball-2/did-marcus-lee-turn-down-guaranteed-nba-deal/ ...

QuoteGoodman told Jeff Anderson of ESPN680 that Lee had guaranteed NBA money when he made his decision to return to school and transfer out of Kentucky. It's unlikely Lee would've actually been on an NBA roster next season, but he would've been looking at around $500,000 and a spot in the D-League...

"I was told there were some teams at the end, at the 11th hour, that before he decided to pull back, that were going to guarantee him a guaranteed contract," Goodman said. "Maybe not multi-year, but certainly a guaranteed one-year deal on the table from an NBA team, and he turned that down."

Goodman also said he thinks Lee made a mistake by going to Kentucky in the first place...

Goodman has no idea why Lee turned down guaranteed money, but understands the transfer is to get touches within an offense, which Lee didn't believe would happen back in Lexington.

Quote6-foot-7 small forward from Indianapolis (IN) North Central is currently at the USA Basketball Men's U18 National Team training camp in Colorado Springs., Co., where he hopes to make the final 12-member team that will compete in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship July 19-23 in Valdivia, Chile. He will also compete at the Steph Curry SC30 Select Camp...

Wilkes said some of the bigger guys like 6-9 Michael Porter Jr., are the toughest to handle in camp.

"Mike and the bigger guys," he said. "They're just bigger than me but it's a challenge."

Wilkes visited Kentucky last year for Big Blue Madness and enjoyed it but has yet to reel in a Kentucky offer.

"It was pretty good," he said. "It was definitely a packed full house. It's a lot of excitement down there, a lot of fans, a lot of support."

He said he'd love to get a Kentucky offer but isn't overly worried about it.

"No, they haven't. If they do it would be great," he said. "I'm not saying that I wouldn't love it but I'm not going to sit here and say I'm waiting on a Kentucky offer but that would be great if they offered."
