I'm looking for a new Colt 1911 CQBP for my son's 21st birthday.  If anyone in NWA or the river valley sees one in a store, please let me know.  I'm NOT looking to buy one from a member.  New from a store.

I'm also getting giraffe bone grips with inlayed silver eagle, globe and anchor on one side and his initials on the other.

Kodiak,

Saw one on Gunbroker for sale in Springdale Ark.  New in Box. Bid starts at $1,599.  Had 0 bids. Can buy outright now for $1,659.95.  Auction # 490362261.  6 days left on auction.  Hope it's the one you want, & this helps. This is from an FFL dealer, Springdale, Ark.  Says if he has no bids, he can remove it from the auction, & sell it locally.

Yeah, I saw that last week and emailed them about seeing the pistol before I bought it.  They said no.  Didn't give me a good feeling.

That does sound peculiar.  Specially since it states in his ad.....that if it has no bids, (which it still doesn't), he reserves the right to pull the gun off the auction, & sell it locally.  Looks good in the multiple pictures,  says it's a new gun...& there are no bids currently.  Don't know what he would have against you looking at it first?

Well, here is what I ended up with:

The grips are giraffe bone with silver inlay.  They did not turn out as well as I had hoped, but are too expensive not to use.  I didn't think the light colored grips would look good on the tan pistol, so I went with the rail gun.  It is almost the same as the CQBP.  It has a different safety and trigger and cerakoted black.  I thought this will look good, shoot really well, and still be just a little tactical for a young marine.

That's sweet...who did the grips

very nice gift, and will last his lifetime, and hopefully be passed down to future generations

Walt Marston http://www.marstongunleather.com/index.html did the grips.  They are nice but not exactly what I was thinking.  Can't wait to shoot it.  It feels very tight with a NM barrel.

Yes, unfortunately.  I don't mind the 80 series, but do prefer the original 70 series when you can find one at a decent price.  I'm picking up a Wiley Clapp Colt next week that is a 70 series.  Looking forward to breaking it in.

Picked this up yesterday.  Lightweight commander.  Feels good.  Should get to shoot it next week.

Nice. Is that a Chip McCormick Power Mag?

kodiakisland

No.  Just the standard Colt magazines.  I've got several 8 round magazines I'll run through it to check function.  I plan to carry it 8+1.  Hope I never need more than that.
