@SportsTalkBo: Long: North end zone project is a challenge b/c its not all about revenue or adding seats. It's about providing easier access for fans.

What does he mean by access?

wupigsuey

That is a curious statement. Makes no sense

He was talking about elevators or something. Adding an extra elevator somewhere

my first guess is ticket prices.  he knows it's borderline to sell out even a big game now, raising ticket prices won't make it any easier.

I didn't hear the interview, so I wasn't aware of the context it was coming from.

Suites and club seats will sell, will they come at the expense of regular seats?

The_Iceman

If you made the end zone one level of red chairback seats, then then do 3 levels of skyboxes going up until the bottom of the screen, that would sell out. Basically, remove the second level of seats in this picture and just stack luxury boxes:

We have to meet demand. Right now, we don't have enough sky boxes to meet the demand for them. But regular seats are still widely available. So add the boxes.

If we could ever win consistently we would fill those seats, but every time we get something going our coach does something retarded, splits the fan base, falls off a bike or "smiles" we have been anywhere from very good to mediocre to horrible the past 14 years. When we become a annual winner and contender the butts will be in the seats.

So, do you build it for that time, or do you wait and miss out on some sales?

ur

Will we ever form the "A" in the south endzone to allow us to use the locker room in the new football facility?

Why do you keep posting this.  It looks too good, and makes too much sense so it will never get done.  As stated if the demand is for Sky boxes and higher dollar seats that's what you build.  That way you are not increasing the capacity by as much as you would by adding bleachers and you maximize revenue.  Again makes too much freaking sense.

The only drawback is that those high dollar seats do not have jumbotron view.  Since we took down the ugly bleachers in nosebleed south side just put another big screen up there.  MSU has two now.  It's going to be the new thing and we don't want to get left behind.
Little known fact, but prior to settling on Guantanamo, the Pentagon wanted to house terror suspects at War Memorial Stadium.  It was deemed to be cruel and unusual punishment and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

Boar Ultimatum

Access should mean a multiple level parking structure on the N end with immediate entrance to your seat section. Top level could be a rented "Tailgate Heaven". I would like to live long enough to hear  90K fans calling the hogs in an enclosed RRS!

There would be to screens in the corners of the SEZ. Plus, the sky box seats have TV's in them that show what is on the jumbo tron.

All of yall are making too much sense for this thread to be in MMQB. Almost tavern level too much sense.

I would think that if the day comes that suites are built in the NEZ then part of the logistics would be to put those that have the suites in the parking lot on the N side. That would possibly mean moving existing scholarship parking holders to other locations etc.. However, most of the biggest BM donors are either there now are along the street adjacent to the stadium, so that may not be as big a issue as it would seen.
Have you ever listened to someone  or read what they put into thoughts and wondered...."who ties your shoelaces for you?"

opineonswine

Suites are definitely a part of the plan.  They want those like in Cowboy Stadium where the team runs out beside them/amongst them sort of.  Field level.

I think there was also talk of having a mingling area similar to the end zone at what used to be, may still be Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

End Zone Plazas

Our stunning $3 million pirate ship is the most eye-catching feature of the stadium. The 103-foot-long replica of an early 1800s pirate ship is the focal point of Buccaneer Cove. The 20,000-square-foot cove extends the entire length of the north end zone. In addition to the pirate ship, the cove includes a weathered, two-story pirate village facade, complete with concession stands, restrooms and other amenities.

That proposal has Field level suites and the second level is club seats. Only the top level isn't an "upgraded" type seat. However I agree it could be done as you say as well.

They have SEZ skyboxes already. I don't think the view will be a big deal, as long as there is an ample supply of food and beer in the box.

Unless we have a waiting list for suites, there is no reason to add on

We cant fill it up regularly as it is

Iceman is owning the thread. Good stuff, and (as best I can tell, for those wondering) accurate.

Skyboxes could be sold today. Problem is filling the seats left behind when folks move to the boxes. They don't want that many empties + available seats for visiting fans. Skybox fans are not noisemakers.

Parking is a growing problem - more seats = more traffic and any expansion of the NEZ cuts into parking. So, a big commitment has to include redesigning parking in the NEZ. A parking garage would probably help UA students also.
I am a Hog fan. I was long before my name was etched, twice, on the sidewalks on the Hill. I will be long after Sam Pittman and Eric Mussleman are coaches, and Hunter Yuracheck is AD. I am a Hog fan when we win, when we lose and when we don't play. I love hearing the UA band play the National Anthem on game day, but I sing along to the Alma Mater. How about a giant version of the parking garage under the new practice fields.  Dig out the pit, great parking below, green space and premium parking on the ground level.  That would only cost a bajillion dollars.  BUT, it would be spectacular.

The long range facilities plan had a parking garage built in Lot 44 with green space on top for tailgating.

Lot 44 is what he called The Pit. It is the term used by students for that lot going back even before my time on the hill.

Actually, the pit was the parking in front of Barnhill. I know, as a pledge, we had to park there in the 70's.

The design as it has been propose doesn't change or lessen parking behind the Pigscreen. It also incorporates some of the old BAC where the old covered practice field area is into the design. It is my understanding that part of the building closest to the screen will actually remain.

How many seats would be added?

I could care less how many seats our stadium holds. Currently with the amount of box and indoor seating as we have from a structural standpoint it is as big and shiny as any stadium. Bowl in the North end and it will be one impressive looking stadium.

jgphillips3

I don't care if ALL we add, this time, is boxes and suites.  We need to complete the bowl to hold in the sound and make RRS a truly formidable place.

If the skyboxes can be sold all they need to do is pull out rows in the upper deck enough to offset most of what initially gets added in outdoor seats in the NEZ  Then assuming the program grows they just gradually add the upper deck rows back as needed, keeping the capacity factor high.

PorkRyan

They need to turn all of the bleacher seats in RRS into chairbacks.  They need to move the opposing teams fans to the Upper Deck and sell the 111 seats as season tickets.  Then enclosing the North end zone would make RRS perfect, except for the Pepsi.

ErieHog

Part of the problem may be disability compliance access.   I think we're skirting the bare minimum of handicap accessible seating, as it is,  so it might make sense in that light as well.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Would be first to do so in college football would it not?

There are only two domed stadiums built specifically for a college team that I know of. Neither of which roofs retract. Idaho's Kibbie dome and Syracuse's Carrier dome.

We used to tailgate in the parkling lot on the south of the Health Center (now the Epley Center for Health Professions) in the southeast corner of the parking lot. It was the best place to tailgate in my opinion because it was elevated, you could overlook everything that was going on to the south and just to the east below, you could easily walk down for the team walk from the Tyson Building and well, it was just a great spot. Kids sliding down the hill on the east side of the parking lot, I miss that tailgating spot. And the quality of your tailgate and where you are located to tailgate is definitely a positive part of the experience. It was a great experience to be able to look over RRS and the Pit below on game day.

Yeah in 2011 the UA bought the house where we used to tailgate for about 15 years and gave it to some of the higher up RF donors to park at. Have not found a spot we like near as much and that has taken away some of my enjoyment of attending games.

During my time on campus the parking lot just north of the stadium was graveled and commonly known as the finger bowl.
