His vision and start-stop ability is excellent.  I still think if he would play at 200 lbs it would help him tremendously.  But what do I know, I haven't seen 200 lbs since the 11th grade.

Then what about when the Miss St safety ran him down from 10 yards behind him? That should never happen to an RB.

Collins is a good back but speed is what's keeping him from being great. He isnt fast enough to take it to the house on any given play. Thats where we miss Marshall's speed  >:(   I hope Alex can improve in the offseason and get that killer instinct some speed.

Yeah.  Running for 60 less yards in a single season, than Wingo managed in an entire career is such a disappointment.

I think it is funny that people say he needs a step.  Most running backs are not as fast as you would think.  Last time I checked he has scored some pretty long touchdowns this year.  The only one I think that he got caught on was at MSU and the linebacker who caught him is freakishly fast.

His freshman year he was caught every time, just before getting there.

I'm hardly a detractor of AC, but his last 100 yard game was against A&M in September. Granted, the last half of the season was gauntlet of ranked teams, resulting in decreased YPC. Some of that decline can be attributed to OL, and sharing carries, but the last few games he showed a tendency to hesitate at the line. A good defense will eat that up.

There wasn't hesitation at the line;  there was a lot of getting to the line, and nothing at all being there, and him keeping his feet moving-- exactly as he is taught--- and trying  to prolong the play to allow for the potential of a break down to develop.

Anyone who think AC was not nimble this year needs to watch the late TD against LSU.

AC is a really good player. But he is not elite. This year he had 520 yards on 117 carries in conference play. Last year he had 545 yards on 104 carries in conference play.

He scored 7 touchdowns in conference play this year. In his 2 years here he has accounted for 9 TD's in conference play.

Again, I am not running down Alex at all. I am very, very happy he chose to be a Razorback. But he is not even in the same ballpark as McFadden.

He's a "picker."  He follows blocks and is very adept at making the LB in the hole miss.  My only criticism would be that there's a time for being patient, and a time for finding a crack and hitting it full bore to get a yard or two when it's needed.  To this point...JWill has been much better in short yardage.  AC has the better vision and ability to make people miss.

His improvement this year is the ability to get an extra few yards after contact once he's gotten up to speed.  He's got the power game, I just think he needs to launch faster on the short yardage plays.

100% agree with this.

You new to Hogville?  We could win a NC and keep the other team scoreless and people on Hogville would critique how our players held the trophy after the game.

We have some of the worst fans in the SEC as far as football IQ. Kentucky is the only team that comes to mind that might be worse. Alex Collins will be top five or better in career yards at Arkansas when he leaves and all the idiots on here can do is bitch about his speed or his happy feet. If they had eyes or brains they would realize our "fattest offensive line" in all of sports can't block after the first quarter and there's no where to run.

The criticism is pathetic, if he maintains his current rushing average through next year he will be 4th all-time in rushing for the Razorbacks. Cowins and Morton played four years. Which means only Mcfadden would have surpassed him in yards gained after 3 years. Simply put he is one of the best running backs to ever put on a uniform for the Razorbacks.

The name of this forum is Monday Morning Quarterback. The implication is obvious. Why should it bother some of you that a constructive criticism of a players performance be posted here. Not everyone here is a current, or ex football coach. Not every one here played the game (at any level). From the fans perspective, some patterns are obvious, regardless of their knowledge. I don't recall having to take a test to join Hogville. As long as a poster isn't bashing players, I encourage those of you who claim superior knowledge not to bash the rest of us. Can't we all just get along?

EXACTLY.  It's how fast they get up to speed.  Only VERY rarely is a RB going to get free without someone in the secondary having an angle on them.

Emit Smith wasn't going to run away from anyone in the NFL.  Worked out pretty well for him.   ;)
I've never wanted a Hog coach to be successful more than I do for Pittman.  He's one of the good guys.

jkstock04

He's got the best overall vision and instinct of any back I have ever seen at Arkansas....but he is by far a speed/take it to the house type of back.

To me that's just fine, I'm gonna assume the coaches know and understand the upsides and limitations of our running backs and will use them accordingly given the needed situation.
Thanks for the F Shack.
