We worried about our SOS and RPI almost the whole season last year, but ended up with the #9 SOS and #21 RPI. BTW, I know the RPI means nothing this time of year, but some of us find it interesting none the less. Plus, we know this is Kevin's favorite conversation.
I know you understand. I just quoted you because you had the information in your post, not necessarily responding at you. Just to clarify.

That's up to Kevin.

EDIT: Just now saw his post. (2 or 3 up). Yikes!

Kevin

after looking at schedules since the new rpi formula went into operation, I have broken it down to a simple answer

We we win, our RPI goes up.

When our opponents who we beat when, both our RPI and SOS goes up.

Our opponents aren't winning right now.

Glad to see some consistency with the D1 poll. They didn't drop LSU last week, after they went 2-2 and won their weekend series, so it was nice to see they treated us the same.

Well, I think we have to happy with all of these, but remember that some of these polls take a week for them to really make their full changes and effects of the good and bad games and entire weeks. In other words, we could go 5-0 this week and still drop some because of this past weekend, but it shows up more in the following weeks poll.

Also, don't forget our best poll has still not come out yet. NCBWA had us at #12 this past week and their new poll will come out this evening or maybe even tomorrow.

You are welcome. I don't always respond to all of the thank you, but I want you to know, I see them and appreciate the recognition.

Please remember to recognize PoconoHog and Razorback#1 and JHicks and the others that contribute to the game threads. We don't have karma anymore so a few short words of recognition makes a big difference. Some Most people don't realize how difficult it is to do pbp for the games, so please let them know if you like what they do. Thanks again.

Also, if you want to give pbp a try, please let me or PoconoHog or Razorbacks#1 know and we will get you setup and we will back you up. Even if you want to try it for a inning or two is fine.

Sorry for getting off topic again today.

Kind of surprised we are still ranked.  This team is very average.

I believe the Razorbacks are worth the ranking. They are definitely still one of the best 25 teams in NCAA.
If it turns, burns, banks or rolls, crew chiefs made it happen.

I'm not surprised...We lost 3 SEC road games to a very good team.  Losing 1 at home against EIU is a worse loss than those 3 combined.

That #288 Non-conf SOS is dreadful. It will improve greatly soon with Ok State x2, Mizzu St x2, and Creighton coming up. Need teams like CMU to start winning some games though

jry04

Baseball America sure has gone to crap since Fitt and some others left. They were always the only one who kept us unranked last season when we got hot. I guess I have to give them credit for not following the others, but from top to bottom their rankings are pretty bad in my opinion.

Yeah, but luckily the SEC is far superior to any other conference and winning in the SEC will be all that matters. After Missouri, every weekend series we play will be against top 60 opponents, with most of them being top 25.

Currently, Warren Nolan projects us to finish 27-28 with a SOS of 27 and a RPI of 102. Pretty stupid, but it gives you a good idea of where our RPI would be with just 9 conference wins. Imagine if we win the non-con games they expect us to win but double our expected SEC win total. The RPI would be in the 20-30 range.

Wisco Pig

The RPI will definitely take care of itself as long as the Hogs heed Kevin's (and Al Davis') advice.

It'll be interesting** to see how much that nonconference SOS jumps simply on the basis of tomorrow's game with OSU -- a road game versus a team with a Top 20 RPI.   We're still early enough in the season to see absurdly dramatic shifts in RPI numbers -- the Hogs improved about 60 spots last week by sweeping a fairly lackluster Auburn team at home.

**If you're into this sort of thing.

Here's the deal on RPI . . . the good news on our non-conference RPI is that we played and beat three "top 50" schools (Rice - currently 15, Texas Tech - 34, Houston 61) in a neutral setting (should have gotten credit for road wins, since we played all 3 in their home state, and two in their home city).  The bad news is that of the rest of our non-conference opponents, only 2 are in the top 100 (Gonzaga and La. Tech), and we LOST to both of them.  Of the other five teams we have played (totaling 13 games), the BEST RPI among them is #238!  Central Michigan, who was in the NCAA Tournament last year, has been a big disappointment at 5-19, #249 RPI.  So, we have a lot of garbage pulling the "good" down.

But, as always, the SEC schedule (plus Okie State and Missouri State) will dramatically improve our SOS by season's end.  When all is said and done, our SOS will be somewhere around 20-25.

Creighton, too.

But like you said, the SOS will be top 30, which is more than enough to garner hosting consideration(which I think is everyone's goal) assuming we take care of business by winning. I honestly think a sweep this week would go a long ways towards having a chance to host at the end of the season. It would avoid putting a bad loss on our resume, while also giving us room for error against teams like A&M and Florida going forward.

ErykofArkansas

SEC with 4 out of the First 5 Rankings, thats what you call a beastly conf. and 8 out out of top 18.  This year in the SEC things will seem like its a super regional every weekend almost.  Couldnt ask for a better year for baseball.

This is more deserving on where the team is right now.  I'm still shocked we lost the series to MU.  This was their first series win since 2014, per the morning rush.  Man that hurts.

Thanks Wisco Pig for doing this. It really makes it easy to see where we rank and what they say about us.

I certainly did not expect this team to be where they are right now. But, I do believe in DVH and believe he can get us in the NCAAT.

There were times last year that I was more worried than I am at this point for this team and we ended up in the CWS. It was a rollercoaster ride for sure and I'm still counting on a great ride this year .

My pleasure.

Hoping for good things this week in Memphis and Oxford.

I had the same thought, but then I figured people might want to have all the links in one place for quick reference.

If we think a polls thread is unnecessary right now, I can definitely stop.

Well we still have plenty of opportunities to make big jumps in rankings and RPI.

That's about the best way I can put it in regards to our remaining schedule...
