College attention is picking up for 2021 post prospect Gabe Wiznitzer | Story: https://247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Gabe-Wiznitzer-Clemson-Minnesota-Georgia-Tech-142580943

QuoteWiznitzer is moving better and more mobile, but he's also been more productive and effective as a basketball player.

"This year has gone really well for me," Wiznitzer. "I think playing against older guys especially and just changing my body. This first half was a little shaky with the little stuff but the second half I got more into a groove and just focusing more on winning and not my points or anything so I think this year has gone really well."

Wiznitzer could technically go to college in 2020 or 2021. Right now the plan is to stick with 2021 and see how the process develops.

"Right now, coming into Hargrave I was planning on going 2021 just because I reclassified at The Christ School," he said. "I'm still planning on going 2021 because I'm just wanting my body to be ready for college."

Nike informed it's teams that the Nike EYBL season has been cancelled

Peach Jam gets all the attention, but all of the Nike travel team events and camps are valuable to potential college prospects

Even if the NCAA does Evaluation Period, Nike doesn't plan to do any events

QuoteNCAA and NABC are gathering information and looking into potentially scheduling Evaluation Periods in August, September and October, multiple industry sources tell 247Sports.

The current dates being targeted are August 6-9, September 4-6 and October 9-11, according to multiple sources.

On Wednesday the NCAA extended the Dead Period through July 31st, cancelling the July Evaluation Periods.

The cancellation of the Evaluation Periods have proposed issues for college coaches in the recruiting department, forcing them to primarily evaluate off of high school film and Synergy from last summer.

While the three Evaluation Period dates are in play, the NABC is bullish, if feasible, on at least two Evaluation Periods in the late summer and early Fall.

Alabama Mr. Basketball J.D. Davison narrows his college list
Calhoun senior basketball star J.D. Davison released his Top 10 on Thursday night.

QuoteAlabama's Mr. Basketball, Jerdarrian "J.D." Davison, has narrowed his college choices to 10.

The state's Gatorade Player of the Year for 2020 released his list on social media.

6-foot-3 Davison capped his junior season with what likely is the year's most defining moment. In a 61-61 tie against Barbour County in the Class 2A title game, Davison dribbled out most of the final two minutes of the game, made a move to the basket, then stepped back and drilled the game-winning 3-pointer from the top of the key with a second left for the Calhoun win:

J.D. Davison. For. The. Win.

Davison finished the game with 34 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. He was named MVP of the tournament. For the season, he averaged 30.4 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists.

"It seems like he's won almost every award this year, and he's certainly deserving," Calhoun coach Ervin Starr told AL.com this spring. "He's a very well-rounded player, a very intelligent player. A lot of people see the athleticism, but they don't understand his basketball IQ is phenomenal. He makes it look easy, but he puts a lot of work into learning his craft."

Davison is the No. 1 player in the state in his class and the No. 18 player in the nation.

UPDATE \ EDIT ... Saturday, Aug. 8 ...

By Kevin McPherson

LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman got the Hogs on the board in a big way in 2021 recruiting as national Top 50 guard Chance Moore committed to the Razorbacks on Saturday while Moore was in Fayetteville with his Dad to "check out the town."

Moore (6-5 wing, McEachern School, Powder Springs, Ga., ESPN national No. 44 / 4-star prospect) announced his pledge to Musselman and Arkansas two days after telling Hogville.net he would "possibly" commit to the Hogs while he was in Northwest Arkansas.

Moore made his one-word announcement via Twitter: "Committed."

"I really like the campus and love Fayetteville," Moore told Hogville.net shortly after making his announcement. "Everyone is so friendly, got a great vibe from today."

On Sunday, July 26, while revealing plans for his weekend trek (Aug. 8-9) to Fayetteville -- despite the NCAA's recruiting dead period prohibiting on- and off-campus visits -- Moore also said he did not intend to release a list of "top" or "final" schools in the future, a combination of details that telegraphed a commitment to Arkansas might be close.

Musselman signed the nation's No. 5 high school recruiting class in 2020 according to ESPN -- a quartet of national Top 100 prospects all from the state of Arkansas -- and the commitment of Moore is noteworthy in that it not only gets Arkansas off to a good start in its 2021 recruiting class, but it represents Musselman's first top-shelf high school recruiting win outside the state.

The addition of Moore also helps answer a likely need on the perimeter at Arkansas in a year's time as the Hogs could be losing up to three big guards following the 2020-21 campaign -- 6-5 junior shooting guard Isaiah Joe is expected to declare and stay in the 2021 NBA Draft with 6-6 freshman shooting guard / wing Moses Moody also getting attention as a potential one-and-done first-round pick in some 2021 mock drafts, plus 6-6 senior combo guard Jalen Tate will have exhausted his college eligibility at the end of the upcoming season. Senior grad-transfer combo forwards Vance Jackson, Jr., and Justin Smith will also be moving on.

Moore picked up his Hog offer in late May, coming roughly a week following his virtual tour with Arkansas coaches, whom he holds in high regard.

"Love the coaching staff," Moore said. "I've pretty much met everyone on Zoom and they have showed me their facilities and stuff. Seems like Coach Muss is building a good program."

Moore reportedly also held offers from LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Xavier, Rutgers, and Iona.

Moore's grassroots team finished 2-1 in late July while playing in the Super 6 event, during which he finished with games of 20 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal (game one); 15 points (game two); and 22 points and 7 rebounds (game three).

Moore is a long, rangy slasher who looks the part of an SEC wing / small forward.

LITTLE ROCK -- Junior college combo forward and Australia native Akol Mawein will be returning to the state of Arkansas in roughly a year to continue his college basketball career in the SEC.

Mawein, a class of 2021 prospect who played his final two seasons of high school basketball (2017-19) at Southwest Christian Academy (SCA) in Little Rock, committed to the Razorbacks on Tuesday and announced his pledge via Instagram on Wednesday as head coach Eric Musselman notched his second 2021 commitment covering a three-day span.

Mawein (6-9, 220, Navarro College in Texas) joined 2021 ESPN national No. 44 / 4-star prospect Chance Moore (6-5 wing, McEachern School in Georgia), who committed to Musselman and Arkansas while in Fayetteville on Saturday.

"I am excited to announce my commitment to play for Coach Eric Musselman and be a member of the Razorbacks Men's Basketball FAMILY," Mawein said in a Twitter post on Wednesday. "I cannot wait to get to Fayetteville. Thanks to (Arkansas associate head coach) David Patrick, (assistant) coach Corey Williams, (assistant) coach Clay Moser, and everyone who has helped me on my journey."

In his juco freshman season at Navarro in '19-20, Mawein started 21 of 29 games and averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting 47.5% from the field (including 21-of-64 from 3 for 32.8%) and 62.4% from the free throw line.

A source recently told Hogville.net that Mawein was back in Australia but is planning to return in late August to Navarro, where he'll play his sophomore season.

Mawein is expected to sign with the Hogs in the November early period. He'll have two seasons of D1 playing eligibility beginning in '21-22.

"He's a Top 10 JC player nationally," the source recently said of Arkansas's interest in Mawein. "I would think so (that the Hogs would pursue Mawein) with his size, length, and shooting."

Mawein was previously committed to UC-Riverside, where new Hogs associate head coach David Patrick -- he too is a native of Australia -- was head coach for two seasons before leaving for Arkansas on July 1.

A week following Patrick's departure, Mawein de-committed from UC-Riverside -- on July 8 -- at which point Patrick and Musselman began recruiting him to Arkansas.

According to sources, over the course of the past month Musselman was inquiring locally in Arkansas about Mawein, while he and Patrick teamed up to host virtual meetings with the versatile big man.

Patrick was recruiting Mawein while the former was an assistant coach at TCU and the latter was an incoming junior ar SCA, and at the time it was believed that Mawein was TCU bound until Patrick took the head coaching position at UC-Riverside, where Mawein committed to after Patrick was hired.

Mawein effectively becomes the first recruiting win for Patrick at Arkansas, and Mawein becomes the second SCA player to commit to the Hogs in the past four recruiting classes (Gabe Osabuohien in 2017).

If Mawein does sign with the Razorbacks as planned and competes as a junior with UA in '21-22, it would be the first time that a juco product who was recruited by Musselman actually played for Musselman, who presumably would be in his third season at Arkansas and seventh overall as a D1 head coach in '21-22.

Mawein was an active frontline jack-of-all-trades playing his junior and senior seasons at SCA after transferring from Montverde Academy in Florida. He also played his spring and summer grassroots basketball with Arkansas-based Woodz Elite during his time attending SCA.

He's effective facing up for mid-range shots, crashing the offensive glass for putbacks, and running the floor hard for transition scoring opportunities. Mawein's a big effort player at both ends of the floor.

Linked here is Mawein's hudl highlight reel from his freshman season at Navarro ... https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13776256/5e800f16b5362c1084ce3b8f
