Javier Castellano took time out of his pre-Breeders' Cup preparations to ride two horses at Mahoning on Tuesday.

That's right, Mahoning. You know, the track in Ohio that replaced Beulah Park.

They both won at odds-on. One was a maiden special weight race, the other was an allowance race.

Both were owned by Loooch Racing. Do they have anything going in the Breeders' Cup? If so, is Castellano riding? I know Loooch tried to enter an unraced 2-year-old in one of the juvenile races and was denied.

Reminds me of the year, sometime in the 1980s it must have been, when Pat Day and Angel Cordero, Jr. were battling down to the wire for most North American wins. Delta Downs (in the years before they had a casino to supplement their purses) was running a New Year's Eve card, so both jocks managed to book mounts there that night. However, Cordero's flight out of New York got cancelled due to fog, so Day won by default, so to speak. I think he honored his obligations there, however, stand up guy that he is.

But Mahoning Valley on a Halloween Tuesday?
