Reminded me of mmqb after every loss. New names, posters who supposedly registered in 2007 but had zero posts.
People ask me what I do in winter when there is no baseball.  I will tell you what I do. I stare out the window, and I wait for spring.

There's a game on Sunday? I thought the way we lost that game, they were just going to UAB our basketball program.

Yep, the haters that have been absent the first month of the season all of a sudden come out after we lose to a Top 20 team on the road in a place they barely ever lose.

They won't post Sunday when we win.

They'll be back when we lose @ Kentucky, assuring us this team isn't tournament worthy.

Also Blu,
I'm just getting into basketball as I'm sure is the case with many others.
Some of us don't really get into basketball until football ends.
Don't worry, I'll post my criticisms of MA and his team for my Basketball BFF BBFF Breems and his BBBFF FCJ after we lose to Clemson and Dayton etc etc :)

So, You realize that you just admitted that yourself and others that are conveniently posting now after a loss, haven't watched any basketball this season, yet you want to come in and criticize our team as well as the teams we've played.  And then you get upset when people start calling you a "troll" or "hater" and not taking you seriously.

And you just confirmed that you have an agenda, you want us to lose so your can criticize CMA, all while saying "I told you so" to FCJ and Breems.

Thanks for proving the perfect example of an "Agenda Driven" poster.

It makes sense now. Most that are showing up now were just having to "wait until football season was over."

I too have trouble watching and rooting for more than 1 team at a time.

what's it really matter?  there's some longtime guys that are home-boys as well as those that are curmudgeons.

new folks will fall into one or the other category, or somewhere in between.

whatever the reason, at least there's enough interest to come here.

In fairness, some folks like me don't post at all during games because it detracts from our focus on watching the game.  As a result, we're not in here as much as we may be in MMQB during a football game, where there is more dead time during the games.  But I do follow the game threads in here during basketball games, more for the entertainment value than anything else.

Also, it seems to me that Jump Ball has more of a close, core group of posters that know each other pretty well and as a result there are more inside jokes and things like that.  Not that there's anything wrong with that; there's not.  But it can keep some folks from posting a lot because they think they are crashing somebody else's party.

P.S.  I think there are 10-12 people in that core group of posters.

@Jackrabbit Hog, I keep my computer and kindle turned off during games sometimes as I'm guilty of missing the game b/c of reading too many comments.

I'm logged in on my phone during games and just keep it beside the bed to refresh it every time there's a time-out or at halftime.  It can be outrageously funny and adds a lot to the viewing experience, but I'll admit it's most entertaining during a game like last night's.

I feel like at least half you all that are getting defensive are missing the point.

I don't post during or even immediately after the games, either. But I got on here this morning and I see a bunch of THREADS created by posters I've never heard of. All critical. That is the problem. If you're just now getting around to posting, replying, commenting on stuff in threads because football season is over, you aren't who I'm talking about.

It isn't about true fandom or needing to make a certain amount of posts. It's about how and when you make your posts, and more specially, when and why you create threads.

Quote from: -Blu on December 05, 2014, 12:32:26 pm
So... is the only acceptable time to make a post after a loss to a top 20 team on the road?  Because a lot of these new usernames didn't pop when we beat SMU or Iona, and those are good teams that will be in the tournament.  And if your thinking to yourself, those aren't recognizable names, what about after the Wake Forest game?  Wake Forest isn't that good, but it's definitely a recognizable name from arguably the best conference in the country.

Seems like people are trying to make excuses for having an agenda.  And there's a difference between having an agenda and giving criticism.  You don't have to like the staff, the players, the system or whatever, there is ways to give constructive criticism about what you don't like while still being a fan and genuinely wanting your team to win.  If you post often and your around win or lose, people will respect that and be more open to listen and take your opinion seriously.  But, If you only show up to celebrate the team losing, just to do "I told you so" then nobody is going to take your seriously because you obviously are agenda driven.  That's why I don't understand why some people get upset when people don't take their threads seriously and call them "haters" when everybody can obviously what their motives are.

Some might have an agenda; some might have just regained focus since it was a big game on the road, and because it's a down time in football.
But, if you would like I'll critique the first few games I watched on TV:

- SMU kinda sloppy win, but I thought it was a great win nonetheless.
- Wake was terrible, and we beat them down like would should have. Great job Hogs.
- North Texas and Iona, games we won, but also games that caused a little concern going into a road game at ISU. We never really took control of the game until late, because of our own inconsistencies. The fact that they were North Texas and Iona allowed us to pull away late, but raised big concerns about playing a good to very good team on the road.

In other words besides some pretty solid play (but not game changing play, yet) by some newcomers, we basically look about the same as we have in prior years. We are very inconsistent and sporadic, and our in game decisions are poor quite often.

It's sad that hogville is the only forum in America where fans get mad after their team gets blown out and logs in to gripe and complain. Every other fanbase has 100% rational fans that don't over react or make crazy generalizations about the coach, style of play, etc. We're the red headed stepchild of the online community. I'm ashamed to be a Hog fan. Lanny should ban everyone who doesn't love Jesus and Mike Anderson.

I've put so much into the football bandwagon this year it is hard for me to get into any kind of routine here.

I think we have a chance to win 20 this year but we can't do that jacking up threes and not taking the ball to the rim, at least not against good teams that don't turn the ball over much.

I agree with all of your analysis. I think your last points there are key. We look pretty much the same. Same problems as before. And going forward, we'll lose Portis, Madden, Qualls?, Kingsly next year. The future is not looking too bright.
OTR seems to agree as well that we're doing the same thing and expecting a different result. My exit question is probably a whole thread onto itself. Does anyone else agree that we can see progress in the football team, but not in the Basketball team?

I do not agree.

First post in a basketball thread this year. I've watched most of the games and have been to more than most in these threads so they can KMA.

Talent on the squad is better and they seem to be in better shape for mikes system. They also seem to come out playing hard early instead of waiting.

BUT

The lack of half court movement is still problemo numero uno. Last night didn't look any different than the previous season. pass it around the horn and someone 3-jack it.

porkinsons disease

SMU and Iona were nice wins. We were in over our heads last night. We ran into a buzzsaw. We'll move on. My issue was that we continued to press when it was broken repeatedly, handcheck, and play matador defense. I like MA, but wish we had a plan b when it is needed.

....and yes, the offense looked the same. Why can't we seem to space like ISU does? Personnel? System?

I guess maybe, if the BB team had not won a conference game in two years, then maybe you could see improvement? I hate to break it to you, but the BB team is substantially ahead of the FB program as far as being competitive nationally. It's just that MA is not the media darling that CBB is. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that CBB has been in the limelight so much since he's been here, I've just always been puzzled by it.

I see progress in both, but I'm worried that the basketball progress has reached it's limit (It's early in the year, so this game could be an abberation for this year, but it looks an awful lot like past years).
It appears that football has not reached it's limit yet.

20? Have you even looked at the schedule? This will be our only loss in OOC and the only sure loss in the SEC is UK. We win 26 plus with ease before the SEC and NCAA tourney.

Not sure I totally agree with that. I think the basketball team is as good as any when we are playing at home, but on the road I don't have much confidence; regardless of who we are playing. Our style of play is just too dependent on how the refs choose to call the game. Mostly goes our way at home, mostly goes against us on the road. We have yet to display the ability to adjust to the flow of the game, we're a one-trick pony.

Football, on the other hand, is getting to the point where I feel we have a chance in every game; regardless of opponent or location of game.

That's Mike system. It worked for Nolan in the 90s but it doesn't work now. The officiating has evolved, the game has evolved. Mike Anderson has not evolved. We're running an antiquated system, an antique. Mike Anderson is Polyester and Disco of the 70s, decades out of date.
I agree. Even MA's biggest supporter (we all know who I am talking about) concedes that win or lose, MA is going to do it his way with his same assistants. I think it is effective against outmanned teams (less or equal talent, short bench), but I think a good coach with equal talent will beat this system way more often than not. Obviously we get away with more at home, so that gives us a false sense of where our team is.

Anyway, Go HOGS!!

Wow. So UAB is a verb now? The infinitive would be "to UAB", conjugated "I UAB", "you UAB", "he/she UABs", past tense "I/you/he/she UABd"?

Pretty clever, IMO.  I think I may begin to use it in conversation.  Ought to make me a lot of friends where I live, lol.

MA has been favoring his "veterans" starting lineup, even though it has shown problems in every game.

Iowa State shredded the veterans starting lineup. Now maybe MA will reorient player sets more toward defense and less toward seniority, or recruiting pecking order, or star ratings, or whatever it was.

That starting five is a horrible defensive group.
