No. 1 Kentucky improved to 13-0 with a 58-50 victory over No. 4 Louisville on Saturday here at the KFC Yum! Center, and Tyler Ulis was the main reason why. The 5-foot-9 freshman took eight shots, made five of them and finished with a team-high 14 points, two assists and zero turnovers. Twelve of those 14 points came in the final 18 minutes.

"I think [Ulis is] a great basketball player," said Louisville's Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino. "He's a true point guard who makes other people better."

Points were somewhat easier to get in the final 20 minutes during which Kentucky opened a double-digit lead despite its starting guards -- Andrew and Aaron Harrison -- struggling immensely. The twins combined to go just 3-of-16 from the field with five assists and seven turnovers. That reality led to John Calipari playing Ulis and fellow freshman guard Devin Booker in key moments, and those two comprised UK's best backcourt in this rivalry game.

How Calipari handles his guards going forward will be interesting to watch.

Either way, the bottom line is this: Kentucky is now 13-0 with 12 double-digit wins and four victories over teams -- Kansas, Texas, North Carolina and Louisville -- that were ranked in the top 10 of the preseason Associated Press poll.
