Report: A&M OC Jake Spavital interviewed for Tulsa job

Kevin Sumlin is already in the midst of a hunt for a new defensive coordinator.  Could the Texas A&M head coach be looking for a new coordinator on the other side of the ball as well?

That may — or may not — ultimately be the case as Mark Berman of FOX26 in Houston is reporting that A&M offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jake Spavital interviewed for the head-coaching vacancy at Tulsa Wednesday.  The Golden Hurricane created the vacancy it's attempting to fill by firing Bill Blankenship this past Monday.

Former Ole Miss and Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt stated earlier this week he has been contacted by the firm conducting Tulsa's search.

The coaching carousel is heating up and while Auburn looks close to replacing one assistant coach, it might be on the verge of losing another. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has emerged as a candidate for the head coaching job at Tulsa. Lashlee's current boss, Gus Malzahn, spent two years on staff at Tulsa in 2007 and 2008. The school has already interviewed Texas A&M offensive coordinator Jake Spavital for the opening. Meanwhile, Travis Haney reported that Auburn is the favorite Insider to land former Florida coach Will Muschamp as its defensive coordinator...

Bo Pelini will reportedly accept a job offer to be the head coach at Youngstown State, once the offer is formally extended...

Pelini is a Youngstown native, although he played his college football at Ohio State. While many probably assumed Pelini would be a good fit as a defensive coordinator somewhere at another power conference school (Auburn, perhaps?), there is something special about a chance to come home.
