Auburn fans are all "over the board" with speculation on who their new coach will be...  http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=6&f=1010

I love the one "Petrino is the One Hire that Would Scare the Bammers"!

Reminds me of us last year...

Because it's Everything Texas isn't; Better than Ole Miss; a Northerner's Dream and a Southerner's Wish; the Pride of Arkansas; The Ultimate College Experience; Wooooo Pig Sooie; Old Main; LSU's Worst Nightmare; And a Place That Can Get In Your Blood and Stay Forever...

Hey.. you have to be a member to read that board. You should somehow provide a link that actually links to what you are talking about and not the main page.

If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

I think Auburn goes for Muschamp.  I'm not sure who else they would get at this point.  I know they are looking for a big name but I'm not sure who would leave the proverbial bird in the hand.

never know, I seem to remember us hitting a pretty unexpected home run in the coaching search last year, not saying I know anything  because I certainly do not, but if there is one thing last year should have taught us is in the college football coaching world just about anything is possible.

Boardon Hamsay

I bet those War Eagle boards are crashing.  It will be interesting to see who they hire.  Tubs will be tough to replace without the hire seeming like a "step down" to many.  Muschamp would be a solid choice and fit IMO, but most would label it as either a "step down" or perhaps more nicely, "going with more of a youth direction".  We'll see what happens.  IMO, they'll go after WM but will get Todd Graham.

If he were to ask for his release I could see him going to either Michigan, or the Rambling Wreck, he would fit those systems and be an immediate upgrade.

I bet the guys who took so much heat a few years ago for courting Petrino are having a serious "I told you so" moment. Boy are we lucky.

I think it's a problem these days for head coaches who are not offensive minded. The head coach has to rely on offensive coordinators and they can't help but move around a lot. It can really disrupt a team to always be changing coordinators and philosophy. This was Tubby's downfall.

All Auburn has to do is find a coach who is excited about going head-to-head with Saban in recruiting. This will be fun to watch.

...or ironically, he'd fit nicely in a system located in Oxford, MS.

The other side of the coin is that when you are not an offensive minded coach, the blame does not fall on you and you can get a "pass" by changing coordinators.  It works both ways.

Tubby's downfall began when he fired Al Borges. THAT was a very, very stupid move. After that move,

The question though is do the Aubbies have what it takes to come up with a "thread that wouldn't die"?  If they don't, then who can take them seriously.

1st.  while Nutt is not even close to the coach that Tubby is, it bothered me that we got dogged so much for getting rid of a "great coach", so out of fairness I won't do it to Aubbie just yet.
2. I have a hard time believing any of this were so shocked he left we wanted him back stuff, a school like Aubbie doesn't pull the trigger on this kind of move unless there pretty sure they have a shot at what they perceive is a better coach.  I go back to our coaching search last year, NOBODY thought little old arky had a shot at a Petrino caliber coach, if Auburn has the $$$ there are always possibilities.

But who knows I could be totally wrong and they just paniced when they saw Bama get so good so fast.

UAfan

It may prove to be pretty tough for Auburn to find a big name coach, with Saban at Bummer.  I'm thinking they go the coordinator route, or maybe even Brian Kelly, I think that guy is a diamond in the rough.

I'm curious how ESPN is going to handle this.  Do you think they will treat Auburn the way they treated Arkansas and Petrino last year?  I somehow doubt that.

If they hire an NFL coach with 3 games left to go, I suspect they will get the same treatment.

I always wondered what TTWD meant but at 2:00 in the morning clicking on thread after thread I never thought to ask.
Good times.

I just had a vision of TT arm in arm with two of his players, slowly walking out of the stadium, down the street, and out of sight.

Wow, I can't believe they fired him.

Stupid except that it was all about personalities there and not about trying to improve their coaching situation.

Actually, no one has turned down the Auburn job at this point.

And, if you recall, Saban lied repeatedly himself and on camera stating he was not going to Alabama and we all know how that ended up.

Their AD says that money is no object.

Somebody should teach them how to properly plane watch.

UT Plane was being tracked from Austin to Gadsden where Muschamp was today and the same plane landed in Columbus, GA, about ten minutes from Auburn, before it heads back to Austin.

Seriously if they are going to make a run at Petrino why not just put about 6mil a year together and see if Saban will bite. its just as far fetched as going after BP.

I would guess that 'Bammers' are already worried about Coach P. Being at Auburn wouldn't change that much. Maybe a little in back-yard recruiting.

But Coach is gonna beat 'em anyway.

How many seconds until Sexton contacts Auburn and informs them that Dale is interested? It would almost be funny if it weren't so true.

I can't even think of who would be a good fit for Auburn. They've completely jacked up their offense. They don't really have a QB that's going to help them win a lot of games. The defense is solid...I guess.

I know there's no chance of it happening; but it sure would be funny if Nutt ended up coaching Kodi Burns at Auburn.
