USAF, Weapons Release

My time in the Air Force:

Osan AB, Korea / RF-4C, OV-10, F-4E, A-10

Blytheville, AFB / B-52G

Carswell AFB, TX / B-52G, B-52H

Bitburg AB, Germany / F-15C

Interesting.  I didn't realize until just now that 3 of the 4 bases I've been stationed at in 11 years, have been closed.  How about you guys?  Where have you been stationed?

Loved Ramstein.  When I was stationed at Bitburg, I was on the base football team.  Visited Ramstein a couple of times.  I was also at Bitburg, when Ramstein had that big air show crash.  That was a bad deal.

Eglin AFB, FL I worked the 33rd FW ramp and the 46th TW ramp many times (first two years in the AF).  I was not a grease monkey though, I was Security Forces, so I was the guy in the car, heat when it was cold/AC when it was hot, and yeah most likely I was asleep.  And yes I worked with the guy that parked the squad car under the F15.  And no the rumors were not true.

When were you stationed at Blytheville AFB. I was a engine mechanic on the B-52 & KC-135's. I got there in June 1966 & left May 69, most of that time I spent working on the flight line. I started a Yahoo Group for Blytheville AFB January 2005, a link to it is below this, last month we had our 1st reunion, planning on having another one next year. We now have just over 200 members, come check us out.

I'm an instructor pilot over at Vance AFB.  I've spent time at Little Rock AFB with the 50th AS, then did training with the Navy down in Pensacola for a year, and have been at Vance for a little over 2 years.  I love the flightline, I start getting a little nervous when I go to buildings on the other side of base, ha.

Now at Charleston AFB, SC since 07 with the 437OSS (C-17)

Praying for orders outta here but don't see any in the near future.

Sounds like Eglin, I was there six years without even a hint of being sent somewhere else.  One of my Flight Chiefs had been at Eglin for 14 yrs with only one stint to Korea to break it up.

Just saw an F-22 catch the barrier yesterday.....it missed...The aircraft IFE'd for a deployed tailhook so the jet just braked as normal and taxied to the End of the runway.

Yeah, some really raunchy rumors were flying all over the place when that thing happened.  I had just left Eglin when it happened, but knew several of the 58th guys who were still there, including the crew chief who found himself dangling from the side of the aircraft when that sedan suddenly became a convertible.

Yeah with the runways so long the jets can miss the barrier and still be ok.  Lots for folks think that the AF Barriers are similar to the ones on the Navy aircraft carriers but they are not even close. In some cases the AF jets hits the barriers on the runway it can take the up to 1000 feet before stopping and on the carriers its like 100 or so feet.
