Sorry if this has already reported here; if it was, I missed it.

"The violations allegedly occurred from the 2005-06 school year through the fall of 2007, which means the university could be punished as a repeat violator. The football program was placed on probation on Feb. 1, 2002."

But the article doesn't say what, if any, penalty the Tide might face.  Looks like they just responded to the NCAA committee last month and will get feedback on it in a couple of months (based on our experience).

Does anyone know anything further on this?

Further info . . . according to Clay Henry, he was at a gathering back in that part of the country this past weekend (his older brother spent several years in the SID office for Alabama) and he says that some of the Bama folks he spoke to are more scared of this situation than you might think.  I believe the most common reaction around the SEC is that Bama will get the wrist slap treatment, but it seems that there may be more to it than that.

One aspect that seems typical of Saban and somewhat unsavory is that the University knew about this and deliberately hushed it until AFTER signing day.

No penalty.  This is Bama we are talking about.  Already covered by the rug IMO.

The USC situation is waiting on lawsuits to be resolved; the NCAA does not want any temporary court-issued relief from any sanction involved, so is waiting it out.  No parallel can be drawn-- this is perhaps one of the worst-understood cases that they've ever considered.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Isn't it just amazing how Alabama is repeatedly "victimized" by NCAA investigations and sanctions?

Once again, history repeats; and if I was a gambling man, I'd lay odds that in the next three to five years, there will be another story about an NCAA investigation into the goings on in Tuscaloosa.

Feeding the dead Bear comes at a high price.......

GOOD.....I hope it's something serious.

I wonder who they will blame this on. I mean it has to be someone elses fault...

Is there anyone who doesn't automatically think "cheaters" when they hear Alabama mentioned?

Only bammers and idiots...

GuvHog

This is Alabama's third NCAA investigation in the last 17 years. That alone makes
it very, very serious. The NCAA won't be doing any thing close to wrist slapping
this time. it will be ugly IMO.
Bleeding Razorback Red Since Birth!!!

yeah I'm sure this will be devastating to their program. the NCAA will probably only allow the boosters to put regular unleaded in the players luxury cars.

Thats gonna cost them some recruits. It can seriously effect the trade in value. Of course they might make it up book trades.

Apparently some of the violations occured in 2006 while they were still on probation from the previous violation.  I think that's why some Bammers are so scared.  The NCAA can't think too highly of more violations while on probation.  Of course, I'm listening to all the Bama haters here in Auburn.....nothing factual.

Since when is it a NCAA violation to give a kid a coloring book?

True because Phil was an amazing NCAA negotiator, he kept enough programs on probation to keep his fanny out of the fryer.

It's the 4th facet of the game....offense....defense....special teams....probation negotiation.

Coloring books apparently are a staple of an University of Alabama education.

All Alabama universities, public and private.    After all, remember the Spurrier comment about the fire at Auburn?

What was it that Bob Devaney the renowned coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers said? He just wanted to win enough each year to merit an NCAA investigation, not actually get put on probation.

Judging from the annual DWI totals,  and the much wider lines available there, I'd say very few.
