This dudes a freak. No telling how good he can get.

Jacob "2 Scoops" Johnson

I just can't see him sustaining anything close to the numbers he's putting up. Don't get me wrong, he's really good. But really raw. Give it two weeks and Mattingly will have him swinging backwards.
That being said, he is ripping the cover off the ball now. They were comparing him to Bo Jackson on MLB Network yesterday. Kind of interesting.

I doubt it's even possible to sustain the numbers he has put up through the first 5 games, but he's an unbelievable talent no doubt. He's going to have some monster seasons I am sure. Especially once he learns some plate discipline. He swings at everything right now. Once he learns to be patient he could be really dangerous.

I keep thinking.. They mention Oscar in higher regard most of the time.. I can't wait till he makes it to the show.

With Puig.. Ethier is probably scared to death right now. He'll probably be out of a job soon.

I'm kind of glad I picked him up in my fantasy keeper league right when they called him up. I had a feeling, but couldn't imagine this instant impact!

Hear they are shopping Ethier around. Trying to put a trade together for JJ Hardy I think.

I did the same. It's paid off big so far.

ucahogfan

Puig is a stud.  I could see him having a Trout like impact this year.  Last year, the Angels were the Astros without Trout and a team that would have been postseason bound if they had him all year.

He's going to need some help though. He's got 12 hits so far and only scored 4 runs. All 4 of course came from his homeruns. There really is no reason that lineup shouldn't be hitting the ball.

I missed on both Tavares and Puig, but stole Matt Carpenter and Shelby Miller in the late rounds this past season.

Why would they go after JJ Hardy? They have Hanley.. Or is he on a short term contract?

I wasn't really sure about that either. I'm figuring they would play Hanley at 3B. They aren't really getting any kind of production out of their 3B now.

On another note. Looks like there is a chance Hanley is going BACK to the DL.

Ray Piggers

Hanley seems to always have trouble staying healthy. As well as Kemp. What a frustrating year for Dodger fans overall.

He reminds me of Rafael Soriano when he was young.

Wow, I am reading this correctly?...Puig got NO suspension for his actions but Eric Hinske got 5 games for "agressive actions" on top of receiving a Puig overhand right to the back of the head?  And Belasario and JP Howell only got 2 games? Unbelievable.  Looks like Puig-mania has worked it's way all the way into Joe Torre's office.  I've watched the video dozens of times and I just don't see Hinske being half as aggressive as any of those three.

As a Puig fantasy owner, it's completely ridiculous he wasn't suspended. The guy was out of control and nailed Hinske...but I'll take it.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. Ridiculous, but I sure was glad.

Can anyone tell me what Hinske did to deserve 5 games? I didn't see enough video of the incident.

Nothing and that's the problem. Even some of the Dodger players were saying he was being cool an trying to break things up. That suspension is insane.

Diehard Dodger fan here.  Puig has been great but I think he will come back to earth real soon. He went 0-4 yesterday and is 2 for his last 16 I think.  He has to improve his strike zone knowledge.  I don't see them making any trades with one of the outfielders this year because there have been so many injuries.  Crawford and Kemp are practically impossible to move with their huge contracts.  Ethier is a maybe.  They only have 2 players that have enough at bats to even qualify for the batting title, Ethier and Gonzalez.  Injuries have destroyed them this year but with that weak division it is still very possible to win it.  Nolasco trade should help.
Getting ready to watch Kershaw take down the Gigantes in a few minutes.

Ray Piggers

IMO Puig is not deserving of an all star spot this year. It's up to the fans to decide, but Freddie Freeman and Agon are more deserving of that final spot.

I don't care if Puig is in or not. The fact that this all-star ballot stuffing contest determines home field for the WS is the travesty.

Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous.

The national league looks to be the better team (by a longshot imo)

So, hopefully the Cardinals can reap the benefits of this.

I saw a number comparison through X amount of games the other day that was nearly identical to the start of Jeff Francoeur's career. Neither one of those guys has ever seen a strike he didn't like. I hope YP's career doesn't parrallel Jeff's, but he will need to lay off one every now and then or he will get exposed. Not everybody can hit bad pitches like Vlad Guerrero.

And no, I don't think he has played enough to warrant an All Star spot yet. His day will come, but one month isn't quite enough. Vote Freddie...or Adrian.

I agree with you on the All star game issue.  Not a big enough sample size yet.  Heck, Hanley Ramirez is hotter than Puig right now but he also missed most of the season so far and he does not deserve it either.  To me the All-Star game is about rewarding the best players so far this year.  I loved this game back in the 70s when the players went all out and it was more a game than the exhibition it has turned into.  Too many players now and mgr feels pressure to get everyone in the game.  The players really wanted to represent their league and show who is best.  Now they all stand around the batting cage talking about who has what agent and their all way too friendly.  It's still the best all-star game of the 4 major sports but it used to be much better.

In 1970 Pete Rose ran over Ray Fosse at home plate in the All Star game. That is how much it meant to him.  You will not see that again.  That was the type of player Pete Rose was though.  You will not see a player like him again either.

Jacob "2 Scoops" Johnson

Saw a stat where he has swung at 7th most balls out of the zone in the league. And he's played a couple months less than most. Still can't knock the hustle, I'm surprised his stats are still so crazy.

ChicoHog

I watched the game tonight and Puig lined the first pitch for a solid single to left.  The pitch was a fastball pretty much down the middle.  Bob Brenly, the Arizona announcer said "that drives a mgr crazy.  the guy is hitting about .800 on first pitch balls put into play and the Dbacks pitcher throws one right there."
Opposing pitchers have to throw breaking stuff out of the zone. He will chase.  Thankfully not too many have been smart enough to do that.

The amazing thing about him is that he has the stats he does swinging at everything he does. I don't think many people realize just how much he swings at.

I think he will come back to earth soon. Pitchers will figure out that he swings at everything, won't give him anything to hit, and his numbers will come down some.

However, if he learns how to be patient and wait for strikes, he is going to be one bad dude.  He's definitely what you would call raw. Still doesn't understand the game such as plate discipline and base running but he has so much natural ability that it makes up for it for now.

Maybe not quite as bad as Vlad, but the strike zone is only theoretical to him.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I knew I was probably pushing it comparing him to Vlad, because I remember Vlad hitting a ball that bounced before and also one that was literally over his head. He would swing at anything.

Yeah not quite as bad as Vlad. I don't think we will ever see anybody that bad again. There's no such thing as a pitch just missing with Puig though. If it's even remotely close, he's taking a cut. Vlad on the other hand, it didn't matter. He was swinging regardless. I always wondered what made him swing at some of those pitches. No way they ever looked like a good pitch from the start.
