Following information covers 2013-2016 signing classes for SEC schools. The number of players that failed to complete their eligibility at that school. Failures were counted for: Non-qualifiers, players getting dismissed, failing school, transfers, just quit playing football or unknown reasons. If players left school early for NFL, I do not count them as failing to complete eligibility. Last updated 11/10/2016. Followed by 247 composite recruiting ranking, NFL draft picks last 5 years and conference record last 3 years.

Al Boarland

Thanks for putting this together. What are we looking for here?

To add to that, here's the # of players each team has lost per year on average

Bama: 2.0
Ark: 1.4
Aub: 1.9
Fla: 2.0*
UGA: 2.7*
Kent: 1.8
LSU: 1.8*
OM: 2.1
MSU: 1.6
Mizz: 2.3
SC: 2.8*
Tenn: 3.0
aTm: 2.9
Vandy: 1.3

*Team has undergone a coaching change which often leads to unusually high transfers.

Vandy leads the SEC with losing only 1.3 players per year with us right behind with 1.4.

Are we looking for a correlation?

Are we looking for a correlation?

If you look, you'll find no correlation. SC has had high losses and poor results the last 4 years. UGA has had high losses and overall pretty good results the last 4 years. Tenner and Aggies have had high losses and medium results over the last 4 years. LSU and Kent have the same loss rate, but are on opposite sides of the spectrum.

All this shows is the amount of depth that a school is building overall. Bama is a bit on the higher side because 4*'s that are 4th on the depth chart will transfer out. We've seen similar things with our RB's and QB's. From 2012-2014, we had an anomalously high departure do to quality players like Hines, Holmes, Peters, and Turner leave due to not fitting the new team after a coaching change. I assume that is partly to blame for SC's high number. Tenner, otoh, has lost a lot of their players due to illegal activities.

So, it's a good metric for how many players you've lost, but a bad metric for how good a team may or may not be or even explaining why players have left.

Point them out. I'd like to know. I'm not seeing it.

considering our recruiting ranking compared to the others , we have done a good job getting them drafted . well above a bunch of teams with higher rated classes , Also our Retention rate is better with the ones we do get.

I can agree with that. At the same time it would point to not maximizing the talent.

This also points out how much we have underachieved.

BIelema is a good recruiter, phenomenon at building a program and developing players but game management has been lacking.
Sumlin is a great recruiter and really not great at anything else.

actually it says we are doing a lot with our talent just need more of them. same as what we've seen on the field with LSU , ole miss and florida this year. our first string players are very good but we get killed because we need depth . when you can't recruit the best players , you have to take time and build what you do get . A red shirt year can do a lot for improving kids from small schools who have never had quality time in the weight room and 1 on 1 coaching in high school

Just my opinion, but the whole development theory has come a gone. I'm looking at the 2017 season with skepticism and after that we know where this thing is going.
