If you want something historic , let's move the basket ball games back to Barnhill.  That's an historic place.  Watched Duke Miami the other night really reminded me of Barnhill mm

Bud Walton does not hold a candle to Barnhill - when you talk about the crowd into the game, excitement and hard on the visiting team. A rocking Barnhill held it's own to any venue in the country.

Living in southern Arkansas, I've always been amazed at the number of folks who can go on several pilgrimages a year to Branson, but look at a trip to Fayetteville as a trip to freakin' Canada.

Truth be told, most of the fans who want all games in Fayetteville are from NWA. Although they'll never admit it, the reason they want that to happen is because they hate being inconvenienced by having to drive to WMS for a Hog game but think nothing is wrong with people from other parts of the state being inconvenienced by having to make the long drives to Fayetteville (something I don't mind doing and actually enjoy). There are legit reasons for moving all games to Fayetteville though, and I believe it will eventually happen.

Since a LOT of fans live outside of NWA I'm thinking just as many not there as is there if not more want the games moved. I know I do and I'm in Memphis. Don't assume that everyone with season tickets to either venue is close to that venue.
If I'm going to cheer players and coaches in victory, I damn sure ought to be man enough to stand with them in defeat.

ANOTHER off the cuff, no logical sense, comment by Guv.

I like MANY others are season ticket holders at both stadiums.  I live in central AR, so like Inhogswetrust, would have a vested interest in keeping games close but it is NOT about me.  It's about what's best for the Razorback football program and that now means playing all games in RRS.

And yes I completely get how WMS is part of Razorback history and other schools may never have played home games at two sites. Only one I can think of is Bama and they stopped that and never looked back.

Isn't Tuscaloosa 45 minutes from Birmingham?

Yes but you still hear it every single time this topic comes up.

Don't assume all Bama fans live in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. I know some people in Memphis that drive all the way there for games. People in all parts of that state drive to games in Tuscaloosa. Same for old barn fans and Auburn. Same for LSU fans, Nebraska fans, tejas, VT, Georgia, Florida, FSU, Clemson, etc. See my point? People ALL over the country drive hours to get to their favorite teams campus to see them play.

The thing that probably intrigues me the most about this topic of playing in LR, is that it seems the most successful college football programs in the country right now are all located in or within striking distance of their state capital. Now I'm not a conspiracy type of guy, but I'm tellin y'all, there is something to that.

Dwight_K_Shrute

Toledo is a quality game as is LaTech if it actually ends up being played in LR.  I just don't see them opening the season there.  It could be worse. Could be the FCS game that is foisted upon DWRRS every year, but I'm hoping those come to an end.
Little known fact, but prior to settling on Guantanamo, the Pentagon wanted to house terror suspects at War Memorial Stadium.  It was deemed to be cruel and unusual punishment and in violation of the Geneva Convention.

As I've stated many times, I agree with playing all home games in Fayetteville and I believe it will eventually happen but just for kicks I'll point something out to you:

You're comparison of schools is an invalid one. Both Ole Miss and LSU have something in common that the U of A does not. 90+% of both LSU and Ole Miss fans who attend games live within a 100 Mile radius of their respective stadiums. Only about 60 to 65% of Hog fans who attend games live within a 100 mile radius of DWRRS. That makes a big difference.

That, I agree with but let me point out that WMS is owned by the whole state of Arkansas so it's the state Government's job to do something about it and they have failed to do so. It's really sad to see a memorial to those who have died in foreign wars being neglected like that.

No there isn't. I can also find an image of Jesus in a piece of toast but that doesn't mean a person that doesn't believe in him or doesn't follow him suddenly think they should.  A college close to it's respective state capital doesn't mean a cause and effect.

Just out of curiosity what do you consider "striking distance"?

I'll go see the Hogs wherever they play. This year, I drove to Fayetteville, Little Rock, Dallas, and Columbia to go see the Hogs play. I don't care where they play, it's not an issue for me. If I'm going to go see a college football game, I'm going balls deep and I'm not going to care how long of a drive it is.

The only issue that matters is whether the costs of playing in Little Rock outweighs the benefits.

You wanna bet. Look up the top 25 programs of all time wins........Less than 50% are located in their respective state capitals. Some are private schools and some are ivy league by the way. You still haven't said how you define within "striking distance".

P.S. do you know what the largest metro area is that has a state capital in it?....................Atlanta.....and yes GT is on the top 25 list. Michigan tops the list and it isn't in the capital. States are all different sizes and shapes. What one person thinks is close another one doesn't.

It's not being close to a capital that matters, it is population. It just so happens some states capitals have a large population and thus recruiting base as well as being centrally located within the state. Some states do not have a large population yet have done pretty well considering all factors. You still haven't said what is "striking distance".

So I take it 60 miles is "striking distance" for you then. Others may define it more or less than that. I already have said population is what's important and some capitals have large populations. Some don't. Some are centrally located and some aren't. for example USCw is right in the heart of Los Angeles metro area yet it is a LONG ways to the capital of Sacramento.

Knoxville is 2.5 hours from the second-largest city.metro area (Nashville) and 6 hours from the largest city/metro area (Memphis) yet Neyland stadium doesn't seem to have much trouble getting 100,000 people in on game day.

I agree some Hog fans need to stop making excuses. However not all Vol fans drive to Neyland from inside the state of TN. There are a TON of Vols in GA and NC. There are a LOT of Bama fans in western and and Central Tn and in the Atlanta area. My point is a LOT of other teams fans drive a long way and we should too if necessary and some do. The UA is moving towards a more NWArk-centric focus.  As the population of the region increases they don't factor needing central Arkansas to fill RSS.

If Jeff Long decides it makes more business sense being a regional team, I don't mind.  Won't change my love for the Razorbacks.

It could open the door for us to play other Arkansas teams.  That would bring some excitement to rent a win games.

So it wouldn't bother you if 5 star recruits from other parts of the state go to Memphis, ASU, Miss State, or Ole Miss??? Look, I agree with moving all home games to DWRRS but telling the rest of the state to kiss off and becoming a regional university is asinine. The best Idea is to move the games to Fayetteville but do whatever else is necessary to keep it a state wide supported University.

No it wouldn't. Just like any and ALL college teams they need as many fans as they can get no matter where those fans live. My point in this discussion is I don't feel sorry for anyone that doesn't want to drive as much as we do to the campus to see  games. It should NOT matter if they are in the corner of the state. There are good roads and the speed limit is not 30 all the way. Besides a lot of fans attend games there from out of state. I'd bet moreso than fans going to games in LR.

You got greedy, and flew off the handle!  (Somehow using that phrase to describe GuvHog seems like the most on point phraseology I've ever used!!)

So it wouldn't bother you if 5 star recruits from other parts of the state go to Memphis, ASU, Miss State, or Ole Miss???

IF a player feels it is best for them to go to school and it isn't my alma Mater then good for them. At least they are going to college somewhere. Don't you wish that where true of most Arkansans. They have the right to go anywhere they want to or not at all.

P.S. Thank goodness other states allow us to take some of their players.
If I'm going to cheer players and coaches in victory, I damn sure ought to be man enough to stand with them in defeat.

Just Like LSU, 90+% of Vol fans that attend their games live within a 100 mile radius of Knoxville. That covers parts of 4 different states (Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina).

I bet it is closer to 70 or 80 %. 90% sounds high to me but I guess it's possible.

It's not off of the top of my head. Our best friends live just north of Baton Rouge and are "in the know" about LSU sports. My wife has family members in Tennessee.
